1 The Eagle February 2014 The Official Publication of Timuquan Lodge 340 Spring Fellowship 2014 Once again Timuquan Lodge will host our Spring Fellowship at Sand Hill Scout Reservation on February 28th - March 2nd. The Spring Fellowship pits the Lodge s Chapters against each other in challenging, strenuous competition to earn the Silver Arrow for the next year. Maybe you have that special skill to help your Chapter win this quest? Lodge Officer Contacts Phone Numbers and Nick Fatolitis, Lodge Chief Adam Ekblad, Administrative Vice Chief Friday evening offers Ordeal members, who meet the requirements, the opportunity to seal their membership by attaining Brotherhood. Brotherhood counseling begins at 6:00pm in the dining hall. The Brotherhood ceremony begins at 8:00pm and the counseling must be completed by 7:45 so plan to arrive early. Immediately following the Brotherhood ceremony, Timuquan Lodge will call out it s recipients for the Vigil Honor. These Brothers in our Lodge have spent years serving Timuquan Lodge and West Central Florida Council, and it is only right that we honor them for their contributions. On Saturday afternoon Lodge elections will be held to elect the youth that will be responsible for Timuquan Lodge for the next year. Perhaps you want to be the next Lodge Chief or Chapter Chief? These leadership positions carry much responsibility and all Lodge youth should be present to vote. If you desire to serve Timuquan Lodge, you need to discuss the requirements of the job with either the Lodge Adviser, or their representative. See page 7 for details. The Lodge year wraps up on Saturday evening with the annual Lodge Banquet. The Lodge Banquet is as much about food as well as recognizing the contributions made by Lodge Brothers throughout the year and our newest Vigil Honor members. Other recognitions include the John C. Whitehurst Award and Best All-Around Chapter. The Lodge will also recognize officers and advisers from the previous year and install the newly elected officers for Dues Deadline Has Passed! Haven t paid your dues? See page 4 for info on getting current. 2 The Eagle The Official Publication of Timuquan Lodge 340 Page 2 Lodge Chief s Bonnet I sat down with the Lodge Adviser, the Lodge Staff Adviser, and the Supreme Chief of the Fire, Mr. Bill Davis, and we all met to talk about our goals for the Lodge and where we want to see the Lodge at this time next year. It was decided that this year the Lodge is going to shift its Council support to be directed towards the recruitment of Cub Scouts. I sat down and brainstormed on different ways to recruit kids to become Cub Scouts and I developed a list of several ways the Lodge can help. My favorite idea and perhaps the most effective idea I came up with is to host a Touch-A-Truck event at Camp Soule. The event would be open to the community and target families with children that are at the age to become Cub Scouts. At this event we will have a membership table where parents can go and sign their son up for Cub Scouts. The event will also offer different activities that many Cub Scouts participate in, so the kids can get a taste of what Cub Scouts do. The event is on the Council Calendar for August 23, 2014 and we ll need several Lodge members to help provide support for this day. In other news, the time has again come for us to gather for our annual Spring Fellowship. The event is at Sand Hill Scout Reservation on February 28-March 2. This is going to be a huge weekend and it is essential that you all attend. The weekend is when we have our Vigil call out, the Quest for the Silver Arrow, Lodge elections, and the Lodge Banquet. As you can tell, there is going to be a lot going on and we need as many Arrowmen at the weekend as possible. Lodge Elections are a major part of the weekend. It gives you an opportunity to select the youth members who will represent you on the Lodge Executive Board. The lodge is looking for some youth to take on leadership roles at chapter and lodge levels and this is a great opportunity for you to take the next step in getting involved. If you have any interest at all in running for one of the lodge or chapter level positions, I urge you to talk to the youth that is currently in that position or their adult adviser, to see what they think about the position. The Lodge Banquet is a time for us to all sit down and congratulate those who have helped the lodge over the past year and to thank our Brothers who have gone above and beyond in their service to the Lodge. The menu for the banquet includes an appetizer of broccoli and cheese soup in a bread bowl, Chicken Cordon Bleu as the entrée, and sides of asparagus and red potatoes. So it is sure to be a great night! Lastly, I d like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped our lodge grow this past lodge year. We couldn t have done it without you all. This weekend marks the end of term for all of the elected officers and some of them are not going to be running for re-election next year. They have all put in so much hard work and dedication to Timuquan Lodge and I am grateful for everything they have done to better our Lodge. I look forward to seeing you all up at Sand Hill Scout Reservation for the Spring Fellowship. - Nick Fatolitis, Lodge Chief Timuquan Lodge, Best Lodge in Section S-4 Lodge Adviser s Corner The Order of the Arrow offers young men opportunities to develop leadership skills that are not offered at the Troop or Crew level. Timuquan Lodge membership is about 225 Scouts and 210 adults, with only one man elected to lead and serve them. That man could be you! I challenge you to consider running for a Lodge or Chapter office. We need qualified and motivated young men to help Timuquan meet its Obligations to West Central Florida Council. I will also caution you that these leadership opportunities are not something you should desire as an award or recognition. These leadership opportunities represent a challenge to you to truly serve your fellow Scouts. Please read through the information about running for an elected office on page 7. You will notice that you must discuss your abilities and goals with the adult adviser who would help guide you on your path. - Ken Knaebel, Timuquan Lodge Adviser Online Fees? Everyone has probably ordered something online and been hit with handling fees. Well, this is a thing of the past for Timuquan Lodge. When you pay your dues or register for events on the council website, you will no longer be charged additional fees what you see, is what you get! To keep registration running smoothly and efficiently, we strongly encourage everyone to use online registration whenever possible.

3 The Eagle The Official Publication of Timuquan Lodge 340 Page 3 Admin Update Thank you to those who filled out a Youth Interest Survey during the Committee Midway on Saturday night at the Winter Conclave. This is extremely important for the future of Timuquan Lodge as it allows us to find new committee members. The surveys will be sorted shortly, and your information will be shared with the committee chairman of the committees of your choice. Great News All chairmen positions on the administrative side of the lodge have been filled! Our new committee chairmen are: Patrick PJ Aitken, Communications Chairman; Tony Copodonna, Service Chairman; and Andrew Weaver, Camp Promotions Chairman. Thank you for stepping up, as this will help our Lodge run a lot smoother. We will hopefully have all the committees filled by the Spring Fellowship and look forward to your return on February 28th. Remember that Lodge elections will be held on Saturday so come out and cast your vote for our elected leadership. Those who chose you, need you. - Adam Ekblad, Administrative Vice Chief Section Conference in April Echockotee Lodge is hosting the S-4 Section Conference at Camp Shands, April Section Conference is your chance to gather with over a thousand fellow Arrowmen from all over Florida for incredible food, fellowship, and fun. If you've been to an S-4 Section Conference, you know that this is your chance to see the Order of the Arrow as you've never seen it before. Truly awesome. If you've never been to a Section Conference before, well, ask someone who has! You don't want to miss it! - Courtesy of the S-4 Facebook Page Inductions Thank you so much for a wonderful Winter Conclave. I would like to congratulate the 35 new Ordeal members and 12 new Brotherhood members. I would also like to congratulate the Ceremonies team on a job well done. The next weekend event is the Spring Fellowship and I encourage everyone to come and join in the brotherhood. A Brotherhood ceremony is scheduled Friday at 8:00pm for eligible Ordeal members who wish to seal their membership in the Order, and have completed Brotherhood Counseling by 7:45pm that evening. If you are interested in joining any of the Inductions committees please contact me, or the respective committee chairman. Also, please encourage your fellow Troop members to pay their dues so that they can join us in brotherhood at the next weekend. - Trevor Case, Inductions Vice Chief Activities - Spring Fellowship Spring fellowship is just around the corner and it s the biggest event of the year! This is a non-work weekend for youth, so come out and support your chapter on the Quest for the Sliver Arrow. It s a time for fun, games, activities, friendly competition, and fellowship. Games include: Basketball, Cracker Whistle, Hula Hoop Toss, Pie-eating, Timuquan Puzzle, Jeopardy, and much more. I want you to encourage your fellow brothers to come out and help your chapter win the coveted Silver Arrow. I look forward to seeing you all there! - Patrick Ronayne, Activities Chairman Ceremonies The Ceremonies team is continuing to gain new members, but we are always open for more help. We recently added a drum to our ceremonies and are always in need of more torchbearers. This means that there are both speaking and non-speaking roles available for anyone interested in joining. The Ceremonies team is making new outfits and are in need of brass or gold tone buttons for the new leggings. Each pair of leggings requires 16 buttons, so if you have some please bring them to the registration table at the next event check-in. We meet the second Thursday of each month and you can contact me if you are interested in joining the Ceremonies team. - Todd Little, Ceremonies Chairman Camp Promotions The Camp Promotions Committee promotes camping in West Central Florida Council and updates the Where to go Camping Guide. We are looking for fellow Arrowmen who would like to serve on this committee. If you are interested in helping, please contact Andrew Weaver. - Andrew R. Weaver, Camp Promotions Chairman

Also, I wanted to make you aware that each chapter has been tasked to work with their district to put on car washes to support the District FOS Special Events fund. Details will be coming out soon. - Dane Nichols, Calusa Chapter Chief Osceola Chapter Happy New Year to everyone and congratulations to our newest members from the recent elections, as well as our new Brotherhood members. Overall, as a chapter we are running smoothly. During the meeting over this last weekend we discussed the need for OA Troop Reps and Election Team volunteers to continue recruiting potential members. We also discussed opportunities to help our community and fellow Scouts. One idea we have is helping Scouts with their Eagle projects. We are reaching out to get the dates and times of upcoming Eagle projects in order to assist them. Our next meeting is on February 12th. We plan to hold a pizza party and will continue planning additional community service and projects to assist fellow Scouts. - Michael Dunleavy, Osceola Chapter Chief Tocobaga Chapter Welcome back Brothers, and Happy New Year! In 2014 Tocobaga Chapter aspires to become a better Chapter with the help of YOU! Our JTE goals have almost been completed and I want to thank all who helped us achieve our goals. Also, we have to start looking towards the rest of As you know we have goals to set, one of them being attendance. Please strongly encourage any inactive Order members to pay their dues and to come enjoy the Spring Weekend with us. As always, you can join us at our FaceBook page. This is the best way to stay up-to-date with the chapter. Our chapter meetings are every second Wednesday of the month, plus a fun meeting every other month. One last note, I would like to thank Mr. Royal for his dedicated service as our Chapter Adviser -- Thanks for everything! - Matt McLoone, Tocobaga Chapter Chief ArrowTour and One Day of Service To commemorate the organization s 100th anniversary, the Order of the Arrow will host three national programs during a year-long celebration in Section chiefs, members of the national Order of the Arrow committee and other key support staff spent most of their time at the 2013 National Planning Meeting in Dallas laying the framework for ArrowTour, a national lodge visitation roadshow, and a national One Day of Service. Both will be executed in 2015 alongside the National Order of the Arrow Conference. Led by Arrowmen but powered by members and nonmembers alike, the One Day of Service is a call to action for each lodge to lead a service project in October 2015 in collaboration with its respective council and community partners. Each lodge will be responsible for developing the project plan, promoting the event, organizing the workforce, leading the project and reporting the results. At the same time, the OA will work collaboratively with their local council to engage the entire Scouting family and a community partner organization to carry out the work necessary to complete the project. ArrowTour is different than any program the OA has ever hosted. Section chiefs in each region are responsible for planning and executing a roving exhibit that will move around the region during the summer of 2015 and visit as many Scouts as possible. Each region s tour will include a consistent program that has been planned by section chiefs at the National Planning Meeting. Stops during ArrowTour will incorporate help from local lodges and councils and will be tailored to meet their needs. At the end of the summer, the four tour vans will convene at Michigan State University for the 2015 National Order of the Arrow Conference. - Courtesy of the Official National OA Website

7 The Eagle The Official Publication of Timuquan Lodge 340 Page 7 Elections During Spring Fellowship Timuquan Lodge has a long tradition of cheerful service to the council, the community, and to the Brothers of our lodge. On Saturday, March 1 st, we will continue this process with elections of our officers. The following positions will be voted on: Lodge Chief, Administrative Vice Chief, Inductions Vice Chief, three Chapter Chiefs, Lodge Secretary, Lodge Treasurer, and Lodge Historian. Please plan to attend and cast your vote for our leadership. In order to cast your vote for the officers, youth must be in attendance at the March weekend. Instructions for Elected Officer Candidates Youth - If you are thinking about running for elected office, keep in mind the following requirements: Lodge Chief, Administrative Vice Chief, and Inductions Vice Chief - You must send a letter or to the Lodge Adviser, Mr. Ken Knaebel, stating your intentions to run and for which office. Prior to the election, you must speak with the Lodge Adviser and have their permission to seek office. The reason for this is to identify those who are truly able and highly motivated to provide leadership in service to others. Service to others is the watchword of our Order. Elected positions should not be sought for personal recognition or for the purpose of improving resumes or college applications. Rather, you should seek to serve your Brothers from a sense of dedication and a desire to make Timuquan Lodge, West Central Florida Council, and our communities better and stronger. Congratulations! This past conclave went very well and want to thank all those who helped out by being Elangomats and with Brotherhood counseling.
