1 Newsletter of Timmeu Lodge #74 Spring of 2016 We need you to help pick up some sticks. Our annual Mother s Day Pancake Breakfast is just around the corner. Every year we have our brothers help that morning. But we need help on other days. On Saturday, April 23 rd, at 9 in the morning, we need all the help we can get to go through Eagle Point Park and pick up sticks. By doing this, not only will you be helping our lodge prepare for our fundraiser but you ll also gain community service hours by making the park more enjoyable for all of its visitors. So enjoy the nice spring weather, and come help pick up sticks. 2 Camp Klaus Trail Work Day Do you remember that nasty storm that wreaked havoc on Camp Klaus? Do you remember seeing all of the trees down? Do you remember the trails and campsites that got destroyed by that same storm? Well Tim Tipple and the Camp Properties committee do and they want to fix the damage. The Camp Properties committee is hosting a Trail Work Day on April 30th, starting at 8:30 AM at Camp C.S. Klaus. The goal is to knock out a rerouted trail due to blown down trees from last July's storm damage. Join a few OA High Adventure Foreman and the Wood Badge participants for this amazing day of service. The best part is that lunch will be provided to you. Please sign up by calling or visiting the Scout Office so they can get a head count for the meal. Please come prepared by bringing appropriate work clothes, including gloves, a water bottle and anything else you might need to work on a trail. Lastly if you have prom that same day, please pickup your tux early and TRY IT ON before Saturday... (Be Prepared) then come to camp and do some cheerful service. We would love to see you there to make camp what it was before the storm. Spring Fellowship As many of you know the camp season is right around the corner. Camp needs our help to prepare for the Scouts that will be attending summer camp throughout the 5 weeks. We as a lodge would like to induct remaining candidates from last year s elections into our lodge, so if Scoutmaster should check their list of 2015 elected youth and adults and have them register. In addition, we would like to help elevate Ordeal members to Brotherhood. Spring Fellowship is a great way to do both. This year Spring Fellowship is held on the weekend of June 3 rd through the 5 th starting at 5 o clock on that Friday. We would like all of you to attend and help make camp great again. Our service chairman has a nice list. There are many projects that need to be done, the biggest is fixing trails, and removing fallen trees. The more hands there are the more we can improve camp and finish various projects. On Sunday when the work is over, you have the option of heading home at 9 a.m. To sign up please go to scoutsiowa.org or call the Scout Office. If you are going for your Ordeal, then the cost is $35. Brotherhood is $25 and if you would just like to help out the cost is $10. So please join your brothers and have a fun filled weekend of service next to your smiling brothers! 2 P a g e
3 Brothers, I hope you are enjoying the lovely spring weather that has come into place here in Eastern Iowa! With the coming of spring, it means a big event is right around the corner for the lodge: the Mother s Day Pancake Breakfast. This is Timmeu s main fundraiser. This event supplies our lodge with the money we need to carry out our events to do cheerful service. In order for it to work, we need you to work! If we can have everybody in the lodge contribute at least an hour or two, we will be able to have a great event. Here s how you can help: Stick Pickup: On April 23rd, a couple weeks before the breakfast, we perform a good turn to the park by picking up sticks and trash left over from the offseason. If you cannot attend the breakfast, this is still a great way to help the lodge! Working the Breakfast: There will be three shifts on Sunday, May 8th, for you to choose from to work. When you get to the breakfast, head to the tent to be assigned a task! Don't be afraid to work more than one shift! We need all the help we can get! Set Up/Tear Down: We of course need Arrowmen to help set up for the day, and then to help tear down. Thank you all in advance for your help on this important event that will fund our lodge for years to come! Yours in Scouting, Nathan Maiers Lodge Secretary 3 P a g e
4 ) Winter Rap-Up This past winter our lodge has had many events for our lodge members to take part in. First was the Winter Banquet. We had over 104 of our members and family show up to join in the festivities. They enjoyed the wonderful speakers and were able to take part in the silent auction. Congratulations to Jake Manternach, who received the Founders Award, plus many other members that received awards for their service and leadership all while enjoying the great food from Poor Man s catering. In February some of our Lodge members were able to enjoy the snow and winter weather at TWA (Timmeu Winter Activity) at Camp Klaus and a visit from Section officers who reviewed our Journey to Excellence goals. They shared recommendations and suggestions on how we can improve our lodge and took home ideas from our officers to share with other lodges. Attendees received a little training, took part in some service projects, and were able to make bonds of brotherhood with fellow members as they slid down heart attack hill, had snow ball fights and played giant games of Monopoly till 2 am. 5 Adviser s Minute The beginning of 2016 is off to a great start. Timmeu Lodge obtained Gold for their JTE status. Congratulations everyone! Winter Banquet was a huge success at the Golf Course in Guttenberg. Thank you to everyone who attended, especially those that received awards. The Founders Award was presented to Jacob Manternach. Centurion Awards were presented to Dick Heller, Steve Arlen, Aaron Seier, Curtis DeWulf, Joe Delaney, Andy Hunt, Tim Riedl and Britt Oswald. Steve mentioned that the lodge has numerous members deserving this award, but these names were the only ones submitted for review from lodge members. Keep up the great work everyone and submit nominations when the time comes around. Speakers at the banquet were Ethan Moser on High Adventure and Ruth Arlen covering the 100 years of OA. Numerous other awards were presented at the Winter Banquet. The Auction brought in $605 to be used toward NLS training, NLATS training, or High Adventure training. Timmeu Lodge had six members attend the Council of Chief meeting in Waterloo in January. Entertainment for the night was going to the Roller Derby, then out for pizza and back to the center for movies. Timmeu Lodge is in line to host 2017 Conclave at Camp Klaus. TWA (Timmeu Winter Activity) though it had low attendance was enjoyed by those attending. Besides games, and events, the scouts helped the NYLT director and Woodbadge Director move supplies to the dining hall for their respective sessions in April. This racked up around 90 hours of service to the two courses. Thank you everyone. Timmeu Lodge has seven participants signed up to attend OA high adventure programs this summer. Enjoy your time this summer. Section officers and advisers came on Friday night of TWA to meet with the lodge members and LEC. They exchanged options to improve our lodge, plus Chief Joe and attendees shared Timmeu s successful programs. A meeting was held for the planning of the Mother s Day Breakfast. Plans are coming along. Stick Pick Up was one main topic and that will be in April. The scouts had a short meeting to discuss the Election and Ceremony teams, and to stoke the fire for Spring Fellowship teams. A Quote from Thoughts on Work: Bits and Pieces booklet: Prepare. Organize. Plan. Be on top of the page, always. Nothing Worthwhile comes easy. Half effort doesn t produce half the results: It produces no results. Work, continuous work and hard work is the only way to accomplish results that last. See everyone at Eagle Point Park Stick pick up then at Mother s Day Breakfast we need your help. Spring Fellowship is around the corner set for June Steve and Ruth Arlen Timmeu Lodge Advisers 5 P a g e
