Knights of Columbus, Charles City 4:00 Registration and Social Gathering 5:30 Dinner and Program to follow The banquet s activities include professional magician, Mike Prestby, OA Trading Post, Lodge recognitions for 2014, a silent auction, and a night of fun and great fellowship. The cost for this year s banquet is $15, plus we ll be collecting 2015 dues and selling Activity Cards at the registration table. Scouts and Scouters alike are guaranteed to have a GREAT time! The Magic of Mike Prestby You will be treated to an evening of comedy and unbelievable magic that will leave you scratching your head! There will be plenty on audience participation and he ll be using live animals in his act!! Mike is an Iowa magician and author NOAC Merchandise With NOAC 2015 fast approaching the Sac-N-Fox Lodge NOAC committee has finalized the patch and shirt designs. The committee has also decided to do pre-orders of all NOAC merchandise. The Pre-Order form can be found online or the Waterloo and Mason City Service Centers. If you would like to order please fill out a pre-order and submit them by December 23, If you pre-order any items you will be held responsible for them when they arrive. You WILL NOT be allowed not to purchase them. It is crucial that you pre-order anything you would like because we are not going to order a large amount of extra patches or shirts. 3 The Centurion Award For nearly 100 years, the Order of the Arrow has purposefully recognized Scouts and Scouters who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. Therefore, our organization s centennial provides a unique opportunity to commemorate those among us who are exemplars of the high ideals and purpose of the Order of the Arrow. The Centurion Award aims to highlight Hometown Heroes, or Arrowmen who have meaningfully contributed to the forming, maturing and ongoing operational excellence of their local council s lodge, and who, in doing so, inspired others to follow in their footsteps. This award is a one-time recognition associated with the centennial anniversary of the OA that is bestowed by the national Order of the Arrow committee. It is modeled after a similar program in the BSA s 100th anniversary celebration, the 2010 National Hall of Leadership. Accordingly, this recognition is an opportunity to highlight lodge development over the last century and the many individuals, both youth and adult, who were instrumental to this success. These honorees will serve as exemplars of leadership, modeling to others a commitment to cheerful service as the Order of the Arrow enters its second century. Criteria for Nomination Centurion Nominees must have been registered in the BSA, the local council and the Order of the Arrow lodge during their recognized service period. A nominee need not have remained registered in the BSA, local council or Order of the Arrow lodge past the service period, nor at the time of nomination. Therefore, nominees may be living or deceased and should have provided significant contribution(s) to the lodge s legacy. Evidence of a historical member of the lodge may, but need not be, sourced from information within the lodge s centennial history book. Each nominee must be designated as either a youth or adult contributor. A youth contributor denotes that the nominee s service period occurred while he was under 21 years of age. An adult contributor denotes that the nominee s service period occurred while he or she was over 21 years of age. An adult contributor can be recognized for his or her service as a professional or volunteer. The minimum service period is 3 years for a youth contributor and 6 years for an adult contributor. Time as a youth contributor may not be applied to the minimum time for an adult contributor (i.e., there can be no adult contributors under 27 years of age). The Sac-N-Fox Lodge is allocated 4 awards and we can request up to 4 additional. 4 Fellow Arrowmen, This last year went by extremely fast. I feel like it was only yesterday I left from the Winter Banquet as the new Lodge Chief. Now, the year is coming to an end, and I will no longer be the chief. I ve really enjoyed working with this years LEC, and everyone at all of our lodge and section events. I can t wait to see how much our lodge grows in the future. Speaking of Winter Banquet, you should all read the article, if you haven t already, about the upcoming WInter Banquet. I hope to see you there. Yours In Service, James Bamber Lodge Chief s Report Vice Chief of Elections Greetings, I hope that everyone is doing well and you enjoyed the awesome fall weather we had. Section conclave was held September at Loud Thunder Scout Reservation. Sac-N-Fox Lodge had a total of 29 arrowmen at Section Conclave nine over our projected attendance! We also brought in over $1, for the silent auction with over 75 items donated! I also had the honor of being elected the 205 Section C- 3A Secretary. I hope that you enjoyed yourself at Fall Fellowship if you were able to attend. We had a great turn out for the weekend with over 70 arrow arrowmen in attendance and 13 new Ordeal members. In addition to the 13 new Ordeal we had seven arrowmen seal their membership in the Order by completing their Brotherhood. We had a wide variety of activities on Saturday afternoon and elections on Saturday night. I had the honor of being elected your 2015 Lodge Chief! I want to thank everyone for all of your support! This means that I will be passing the position of, Vice Chief of Elections over to Avery Hubbard in January. I hope that everyone has January 4, 2015 saved and is planning to attend our annual Winter Banquet. Winter Banquet will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Charles City starting with social hour followed by the meal and the award ceremony. The 2014 Vigil class will be honored and the 2015 Lodge Officers will be sworn in. The James E. West and Founders award will be presented at Winter Banquet along with a few other awards. Registration will open December 4, 2014, so please register online if you planning on attending. You can register online at. We had a large number attend Section Conclave and an outstanding attendance at Fall Fellowship. I hope that we can continue this for Winter Banquet in January. We are currently looking for a lot of positions next year! Two of these are the Camping Promotions Chair and a new chair we have yet to name. The Camping Promotions Chair does exactly what the name suggests. The Chair would go around, with help from his committee, to talk with each troop about camp and promote it. The new chair will have to deal with fundraising. We, the LEC, have decided to try and do a fundraiser, and we need a committee chair and a committee to take on this new, large, and never before done challenge. 6 Chapter Reports Bonjour! My name is Isaac Byrne. I was elected to be the chapter chief for Lakeland. I am a Life scout in Troop 30. I am preceded in position by no one. Since no one is in the current position, I have been running the last meetings since my election. The meetings are set up where any person in the OA is welcome. We will talk for the first half, and then we will play games and eat treats that have either been bought or brought. If you wish, you are welcome to bring treats, as long as you are willing to share. Yours in Brotherhood, Charlie Snyder Cub Scout Committee Chair Dear Brothers, Our Cub Scout committee is still a relatively new idea in the area and so as you might assume we do not have many people involved. I am currently trying to recruit people to join the committee so that we have more members. In this committee our job is to recruit Cub Scouts to both join and to go camping along with WEBELOs to Scout Transition, so the upcoming winter camporee for cub scouts could be a great opportunity to do so. My name is Cam Frederick and I am the 2015 Lodge Treasurer. I have high goals for keeping our lodge on track throughout the 2015 year. I would like to extend my thanks to Matt Kangas for his service to the lodge as our current treasurer and thank those members to have supported me in the initial part of my journey in running for office within our lodge. I would like to inform all of the youth of a Centennial Celebration Award that is available through the end of The Order of the Arrow has put together the Centuries of Service Award to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Order. The award can be earned from July 16th, 2014, up to December 31, The award has a couple basic requirements that need to be met before the other items can be worked on. These would be that a youth in registered and in good standing in the BSA, our council, and the Order of the Arrow lodge. After these items are met, there are three categories with a limit of two requirements per each category that have to be achieved. Each category has one item that is specific (bold) that is required for that level and then a few other options to pick from to meet that levels requirements. The three categories or levels are Personal Growth, Scout Service, and the 100th Anniversary Events category.
