This past month was phenomenal for the chapter with Pow Wow and Fall Ordeal and we have a great month ahead of us with the activities planned. Pow Wow: At Pow Wow he had a fantastic time as a chapter competing against the other chapters in the lodge as well as welcoming two new Vigil Honor members. As for awards in sports, we received first place in Ultimate Frisbee, second in Rifle Shooting and Overall Sports, and third in Lodgeball and Archery! In Indian Crafts, Russel de los Reyes and his brother, John Paul, took home first in both sand painting traditional and group! Lastly, for overall awards, we received second for best overall chapter spirit and third for best overall chapter! Good job Santee. After all the fun and games on Saturday, Russel de los Reyes, and I, received the Vigil Honor at the campfire. Fall Ordeal: It was a hot weekend up at Oso Lake, but we had 8 Ordeal candidates and 3 Brotherhood candidates stick through the work they were put up to. Our Ordeal candidates include: Jared Fong, Shane LeBaron, Elijah Cobo, Jacob Rips, Nicolas Kiyohara, Nathan Welton, and Christian D Alessandro. And the Brotherhood candidates were Robert Jankovich, Steve Jankovich, and Justin Randig. Please congratulate this scouts and scouter the next time you see them please. Conclave was held at Camp Tahquitz this year and the 3 surrounding Lodges met for a weekend of training, sports, and fun. In the morning there was classes and then in the afternoon, Lodgeball (Dodgeball) and Ultimate Frisbee took place against the other lodges. Cub Country is an event that the National Committee is experimenting with this year with Lodges across the nation. The goal of it is to get more Cub Scouts and their friends interested in scouting and the Order of the Arrow hopefully inspiring them to join when they re older and achieving Eagle. At Cub Country each Chapter in the Lodge is responsible for an event to run for the scouts to take part in. Camporall is our district event for Cub Scouts that is being held at El Dorado Park. During the day the Cub Scouts will be doing various events with scout troops and then at night they will have a serpentine and campfire. Chapter Meeting: This month we will be holding elections for the 2017 Officers and their advisors will be chosen too. Please come this month so you can have a say in the leadership for the next year. The chapter meeting this month is a very important one! The youth Arrowmen will be voting on Santee s leadership for next year. All dues paid youth are eligible to vote. Haven t paid your dues yet for 2016? Pay them at the chapter meeting and you will be eligible to vote, and be current through the end of 2017! Santee has 4 elected positions: Chief, Executive Vice Chief, Treasurer, and Secretary. There are also a number of appointed board positions including Vice Chief of Service, VC of Camp Promo, VC of Indian Affairs, Vigil Chief, VC of OA Reps, VC of Activities, Trade-o-ree chairman, Webmaster, Newsletter Editor, Quartermaster and much more. A brief description of each position is listed on the following page. It is very important that you attend the October Chapter meeting. Your participation and support make Santee a success. Even if you are not running for a position, your support and vote makes the chapter work. Interested in helping out, but don t see exactly what you are looking for? Talk to the chapter chief or any of the advisers. There are things big and small that you can help with. Also at this meeting we will be voting on Chapter Arrowman of the year and the ball buster award.

Attends Lodge board meetings Executive Vice Chief (EVC) Runs elections for all troops in district. Plans/Runs Spring Ordeal. Plan/Executes Chapter Banquet Secretary Primarily responsible for chapter communications and board meeting minutes. Takes attendance at meetings. Responsible for newsletter, chapter website and other communications Treasurer Responsible for creating and maintaining a budget for the Chapter. Collects dues and other payments. Runs trading post at Camp-o-ree Appointed Positions Vigil Chief Gets updated info from all eligible brotherhood members and works with Lodge to nominate candidates for Vigil honor Vice Chief of Service Promotes service in the chapter. Collects service forms to be sent to lodge. Plans/executes chapter service projects and promotes lodge service Vice Chief of Activities Plans an activity for every chapter meeting. Plans/executes chapter fellowship activities outside of chapter meetings (BBQs, Beach days, etc.). Organizes Santee s participation at Pow-wow Vice Chief of Camp Promotion Visits every troop and promotes camping. Create/Maintain camp promo booth and competes at Pow-wow Vice Chief of OA Troop Reps Visits every troop and finds a youth who will be an OA rep. Communicates regularly with these youth so these OA reps can communicate back to their troops. Vice Chief of Indian Affairs Organizes/trains Pre-Ordeal, Ordeal and Brotherhood teams for Spring Ordeal and Pow-wow. Organizes ceremony teams for Arrow of light and Court of Honor ceremonies. Trade-O-Ree Promotes Lodge Trade-o-ree. Collects donations and ensures chapter support at event Webmaster Updates and maintains Chapter website. Posts documents, minutes, etc. to website. Maintains chapter s calendar Newsletter Editor Publishes monthly newsletter. Gets articles from members. Mails out paper newsletter biyearly Quartermaster Organizes and maintains chapter s equipment, and supports Camp-o-ree execution Journey to Excellence Tracks chapter s JTE score and encourages others to raise the score for their area of responsibility Contingent Leaders For a given event organizes chapter s participation Camp-o-Ree Youth in charge for Camp-o-ree. Plans, organizes and executes Camp-o-ree Camp-o-Ree Scout Activities - Youth in charge of Boy scout events at Camp-o-ree. Camp-o-Ree Webelos Activities - Youth in charge of Webelos events at Camp-o-ree. Other positions may be added as needed.

4 Chapter Banquet! Hey Fellow Arrowmen, The Chapter Banquet is happening soon, so save the date: November 16 th The chapter banquet is the dinner when we fellowship and reflect on the past year. We announce the give our Chapter s highest award: Arrowman of the year. We install the new chapter s board. We have fun! Come socialize with our friends in scouting. Other awards such as the ball buster, Wischixin, and various other awards are announced. There is an opportunity drawing (raffle) and 50/50 drawing where prizes of all sorts are available. Prices for the opportunity drawing tickets will be 1 ticket for $1, and 6 tickets for $5. So remember: the banquet will be at the November chapter meeting, 11/16/16, 7:00 pm at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Delicious fajitas will be cooked by our very own Comfort Catering and be followed by a tasty dessert. All of this for only $9 per person. P.S. If you have any opportunity drawing prizes, please bring them to the meeting on October 20. We will gladly accept any prize donations. Jokes!!!: Q. What happens to a frog's car when it breaks down? Santee Brothers, Treasurer s Report I just wanted to take a moment to thank all of those Arrowmen who are up to date with your dues. For all of the new Ordeal members your dues have been paid up to December of We will start collecting dues for 2017 in November. Dues should are $18. Your dues support funding for both Santee Chapter and Wiatava Lodge. Behind on dues? Don t fret, pay your $18 today, and you are good through the end of 2017! No back dues collected! 5 Pow-Wow A big congratulations to Russel De Los Reyes and Kyle Recker for receiving their Vigil Honor at Pow-wow! Conclave Conclave, held at beautiful Camp Tahquitz this year was wonderful. Wiatava took first place in Ultimate Frisbee and second in Lodgeball. Our 2016 lodge chief Manue Lopez was elected to be 2017 s W4S section chief! Trevor, Grant, Hayden, and Charlie attended as youth and all earned a degree from Arrowman University. Charlie competed on the Wiatava Ceremonies team and everyone had lots of fun.

6 Attention Scouts! Are you 16 years old? Do you love to hike? Are you looking for an adventure? Do you want the best summer camp ever? If you answered, YES, then I have the opportunity for you. Troop 642 is sending an older crew of scouts to Philmont in 2017 and they are looking for a few extra scouts to join them on this excellent 12 day adventure. The scouts from Troop 642 are planning to compete a combination of hiking (60+ miles), mountain biking, rock climbing & rappelling, 12-Gauge shotgun, and Burro racing. If this sounds like a fun adventure and you re looking for the ultimate high adventure experience we want you to join use. The itinerary will be determined shortly and look at the link to below for available itineraries at Philmont.
