2 Message from the Editor Happy Holidays Fellow Arrowmen! It has been my honor and privilege to serve you the past two years as the Vice Chief of Communications for Jaccos Towne Lodge. Together, we have been able to make so much progress in our communications as whole, and we have set ourselves apar t with the exceptionality of our communications team. Over the past two years, we have completely rebuilt our website from scratch, revamped our social media presence - including getting onto Instagram - and created a new design for the newsletters as well. How we present ourselves online has been completely overhauled. I thank you all for the wonderful oppor tunity to grow my social media skills and be able to represent our Lodge through that outlet. Additionally, I want to thank you for allowing me the oppor tunity to represent the whole Lodge as Chief for the year of I sincerely look forward to all the progress we will be able to make as a Lodge through this next year. I hope to be able to lead you all well, and showcase what our Lodge can really do when we all work together for a common goal. Once again, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Years! 3 Pay Your 2019 Dues Now Have you paid your dues for 2019 yet? If not, you can right now on our website! Cost is only $15. You may also consider purchasing an Otter Pass, which includes your dues, all the Lodge events for the year and saves you money! Lodge Spring Fellowship If you are looking forward to spring already, be sure to mark this on your calendar for a countdown to the Lodge Spring Fellowship. This year, it will be held at Camp Kikthawenund from March 16-17th. In previous years, we offered enter taining activities such as a Games theme night. This year s theme is TBA, but whatever it may be, you will not want to miss it! Cost is $30 for the weekend. Cost is included for 2019 Otter Pass holders. 4 Vigil Honor Nominations The Vigil Honor is reserved for those Arrowmen who, by reason of exceptional service, personal effor t, and unselfish interest, have made distinguished contributions beyond the immediate responsibilities of their position or office to one or more of the following: their Lodge, the Order of the Arrow, Scouting, or their Scout Camp. Candidates must be registered members of the Boy Scouts of America AND dues-paid members of the Lodge. To nominate someone for the Vigil Honor, the nominator must fill out and submit a completed National Vigil Petition AND Vigil Guide Form. All Vigil Petition and Guide forms are due at the March LEC. Please submit them either to the Vigil Chair or Adviser in person or at vigilchair@jaccostownelodge.org and vigiladviser@jaccostownelodge.org. The Vigil Selection Meeting will star t at 2:00PM on Sunday, April 7th at the Golden-Burke Scout Center. All Chapters are asked to send two members who are not eligible for Vigil, preferably one who is already a Vigil. The committee would like the names of these Arrowmen by the March LEC. The required forms are available at Lodge Officers At the end of the Lodge Ordeal in September, the Lodge Officers for 2019 were nominated and elected by their peers. 5 Be Prepared for Unit Election & Camp Promotion As Scouting s National Honor Society, our purpose is to: Recognize those who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives and through that recognition cause others to conduct themselves in a way that warrants similar recognition. Promote camping, responsible outdoor adventure, and environmental stewardship as essential components of every Scout s experience, in the unit, year-round, and in summer camp. Develop leaders with the willingness, character, spirit and ability to advance the activities of their units, our Brotherhood, Scouting, and ultimately our nation. Crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others. Through Unit Elections, wor thy Scouts are recognized and elected as Ordeal candidates. Arrowmen are needed to serve on Unit Election teams in their Chapter. Contact your Chapter Chief and volunteer! Most units do their elections in the first months of the year, so contact your Chapter Chief as soon as possible. Forms are available on the Lodge s website under Resources. Please make sure copies of Unit Elections and Adult Nominations are turned into the Lodge. It is an Arrowman s responsibility to help promote camping through his unit, district, and council. This may be done through camp promotions to Cub Scout and Boy Scout units. Information and resources are available from the Council to help you make presentations on camping oppor tunities in the Crossroads of America Council. Doing a unit election and camp promotion at the same time for Boy Scout units is an efficient way of offering cheerful service and helping both the BSA and the OA! We had a fantastic weekend of trainings and fellowship, all capped off by an incredible dinner on Saturday night. We had close to 100 people come out and join us for the Banquet. 7 Leadership Training Seminars The 2019 schedule for National Leadership Seminar (NLS) and Developing Youth Leadership Conference (DYLC) has been released. Learn more and register online at central.oa-bsa.org/region-programs/training/national-leadership-seminar/. All Lodge Officers, Chapter Chiefs, and their Advisers must attend NLS. The Lodge does pay for them to attend. The National Leadership Seminar is a weekend conference focused on the skills and attributes of leadership. It is intended primarily to enhance the leadership skills of the Order of the Arrow s key youth and adult members as they seek to improve their services to the Boy Scouts of America and the greater community. Near the end of the seminar, par ticipants make a contract with themselves to apply the skills studied in the seminar on projects in their Lodge, Council, and community. Any youth or adult member seeking to improve their leadership skills and improve their services to the Boy Scouts and greater community should attend and may pay to do so Section Conclave Section Conclave this year will be held from April 12-14th at Maumee Scout Reservation, just south and east of Ransburg Scout Reservation. Hosted by the Nischa Chuppecat Lodge, this year s theme is Finding the Arrow. There will be a multitude of activities to take par t in, and we know you will have a blast! Learn more at World Scout Jamboree The 2019 World Scout Jamboree is above all an educational event that brings together the world s young people to promote peace and mutual understanding and to develop leadership and life skills. The jamboree experience extends beyond your home and beyond the boundaries of our countries to create a global adventure that will last a lifetime!
