Go Cats The president gave the invocation followed by the anthem from a rather hoarse Gavin. The jokes followed the football theme, surprisingly complementary to Collingwood. President Stewart welcomed our guests Victoria and Mark Wheldon. Mike O, as chairman for the day, welcomed our guests for the Volunteer of the Year award. Present were winners Emma Forssman and Jan Kinloch, with Hugh McKewan from Kids Plus, Anne Parton from National Council of Women in Victoria, Stephen Roberts from St John of God, Pat Murmane from Bendigo Bank and Ken Kinloch. Announcements Posted by onger on Sep 25, 2011 Board meeting Stewart reminded board member of the board meeting on Monday at his home. Going, going, soon to be gone Danny circulated the draft quction catalogue and thanked all those who helped prepare it. We are all encouraged to spread the word to our friends and family, the more bids that we can get the better. Portarlington artsy promoted an art exhibition at Portarlington during October, including works by our own Suzanne who is exhibiting. Get planting Tree planning is on this Sunday at Red Gum Island, 9.30am. Please see for more details Pizza post mortem Deb reported on the Pizza night last week, there was a good turnout and everyone had a good time. Trivial matter The next fellowship event is the trivia night on Oct 22and Deb suggested we should organise tables of 6-8. This not a trivia night for the serious trivia buffs, the focus will be on having a fun night. It will be a basket supper, ie

Click here to place your ad Birthday. Before Pres Stewart got going it was pointed out that they were two significant birthdays on this weekend. Seems they're almost twins being born a day apart. Kerry and Rhonda were duly embarrassed as the HK choir made an attempt at Happy Stewarts culture spot was a football theme, who was Carji Greeves? Carji, full name Edward Goderich Greeves Jnr played for Geelong in the 20s and early 30s and won the first Brownlow medal in He also won premierships in 1925 and 1931, and was named in the Geelong team of the century. The Geelong best and fairest is named after him, won last year by Joel Selwood. The Brownlow medal itself has a Geelong connection, Charles Brownlow a Geelong player and then Geelong club secretary for almost 40 years from 1885 to Another Geelong record is that of the Ford Motor Company, which has sponsored the football club continuously since 1925, believed to be the longest sporting sponsorship agreement anywhere in the world. Go Cats...the true believers Posted by Rhonda Whitton on Sep 28, 2011 Club footy fans were out in full force and displaying their club loyalty in the lead up to the Grand Final on Sat 1 October. Well, their enthusiasm well and truly paid the ultimate dividend with Geelong (Go Cats) enjoying a magnificient 38 point lead over the Magpies (Boo. Hiss). Volunteer OTY Awards Posted by Nick Oakley on Sep 25, 2011 Young Volunteer of the Year Emma Forssman was the Young Volunteer of the Year and has a long list of achievements. She has raised money for diabetes, organised a movie night and raised $2500 for a 19 year old friend diagnosed with cancer to have one last holiday, raised $6250 for Rainbow Riders and is now leading her workplace to raise money for Kids Plus. An amazing young woman. Emma donated her award money to Kids Plus and Hugh Mc Kewan spoke of his

3 Page 3 of 5 delight in the work that Kids Plus has done to help his daughter Alex who has cerebral palsy. Volunteer of the Year Jan Kinloch has volunteered for many years of her life and was the Volunteer of the Year. She has been involved with scouting for over 30 years, and with ST john of God hospital for over 20 years. Jan is currently president of the Hospital Auxiliary, a group that raises over $40,000 pa for the Hospital. Another involvement is with the National Council of Women, where Jan's leadership skills and drive are a great asset to the group. Jan donated her here award money to St John of God hospital, and CEO Stephen Roberts spoke of the value of volunteers and the difference that they can make to have great healthcare. Bendigo is the sponsor for the main award, and Pat Murnane spoke of the benefits of volunteering, for the organisation and also the person. The third award winner was unable to attend and will receive her award shortly. Auction Posted by Nick Oakley on Sep 28, 2011 You'll have received a copy of the catalogue for our auction on Wednesday 19 October. This is a club fundraiser and we want it to be a bumper event. Everyone is encouraged to share the catalogue with friends, relatives, colleagues to try and stimulate interest in bidding for auction items. This month is...
