We look forward to seeing you there! We look forward to seeing you there! Yours in Brotherhood, Daniel Terry Egwa Trek Captain noaccontingentleader@aacegwa.org A Message From the Ordealmaster At the WSR Ordeal, we had 166 members attend and 234 new members inducted. We had 48 members take the Brotherhood Trail. Although it was raining for most of the weekend, we still got a lot of work done getting WSR ready for summer camp. During the BASR Ordeal, we had 162 members attend and 175 new members inducted. We had 46 members take the Brotherhood Trail. We lucked out with the weather for the BASR Ordeal and got a lot of projects done for the camp. At WSR, we did over $2,000 in Trading Post sales with our new NOAC fund raiser patch set being very popular. We did just under $2,000 in Trading Post sales at BASR and again our NOAC fundraiser patch set selling well. We have sold about 164 of our 300 NOAC fundraiser patches so far. The money made from these patches will help many of our fellow Egwa brothers get to NOAC this year in Indiana. The meals were great at both ordeals with a wonderful steak dinner on Saturday night. Special thanks goes to the cook team for preparing such a wonderful dining experience and another thanks goes out to TQB for providing a grill, cook and their time to cook those amazing steaks. There were no medical issues, other than a few minor cuts at either Ordeal. The Vigil Honor Committee met at the BASR Ordeal and came up with a list of those that should be honored with the Vigil. These names will be announced at the Fall Fellowship on September 11, 2009 at Fall Fellowship. Yours in Service, Paul Danaj Ordealmaster 2009 Founder s Award Petition Now Available Do you know a brother who gives it all for the Order? A brother who lives by and for the OA principles in their daily lives and provides exceptional service to their community, unit, chapter, lodge, and the OA as a whole is deserving of this high honor. If you know a brother who fits these qualifications fill out the form found at then end of this quiver. Forms are also now available on the lodge website. Please nominate only those MOST deserving. The forms are due to the Volunteer Service Center by August 31st or at the registration table at Fall Fellowship Friday night, September 11th. Yours in Cheerful Service, Shannon Snipes, Founder s Award Committee Chair

Quiver Page 3 Lodge Officer Reports Vice-Chief of Administration Brothers, Thank You for your help at Bert Adams Ordeal. The elangomats did well and over the entire event was a success. We did have a few problems Friday night due to poor communication, hopefully in the next administration that problem will cease. We have lost items and pictures of them are on our website so please check if any of this yours. I would like to thank all the vice chief's, chapter chief's, lodge advisors, chapter advisors, the cook team, and any one who helped make the ordeals successful. I would also like to thank all of the ceremonies teams, they worked very hard. I will be working on our troop rep. program, so that hopefully the communication problems between the troops and the chapters are a little better. Thank you for allowing me to be your Vice Chief of Administration. WWW, Scout Conner Vice-Chief of Program We have had a busy but productive month with the ordeals. Both the WSR and BASR had a lot done to them. The tents were set up at both camps as well as some other major projects. Conclave is past and we had a great weekend with a great attendance at Camp Comer in Alabama. This summer we have an opportunity for everybody to come out to CAAB for our first ever SUMMER FEST! We will have a great time learning about the OA and having Fellowship. We have had a great year so far and I will see everybody at NOAC. Yours in Scouting, Bradly Jacquet Vice-Chief of Indian Affairs Indian Affairs stuff: Thanks to all the chapters that provided teams for the ordeals, along with the various individuals that filled in when a part was needed. It is greatly appreciated. With any luck, more information about sign-up for NOAC ceremonies will be coming out soon, so keep an eye out. In the meantime, keep practicing ceremonies for NOAC. WWW, Mark Boyd Vice-Chief of Communications Egwa, it had been a pleasure to serve you. The success of the Quiver is built upon the chapters so I want to appreciate all chapters that have submitted a report when it was time for a printed Quiver. I also want to encourage all chapters to continue doing so. The LEC minutes are now available online under the LEC page. Be sure to check them out if your chapter missed an LEC. Also, please let me know if your chapter needs help with communication. There are a lot of resources available in our lodge to help chapters who are struggling to communicate effectively. Low participation can be from poor communication. I know that some people, like myself, are not too technically savvy. I want every chapter to have the opportunity to have a page for their own on the lodge website. Chapters wanting to do so will need to contact me. Also, as Communications Committee Chair I still want to open it to any members with thoughts about the Quiver, website, or Egwa communication as a whole. Yours in Cheerful Communication, Shannon Snipes Vice-Chief of Finance I'm pleased to report that the Trading Post exceeded its sales goals for both Ordeal weekends. Part of the reason for the great sales was the arrival of our NOAC Fundraiser patches that followed the Egwa Trek theme. The Lodge Trading Post has sent certain items to the Woodruff Trading Post for sale during summer camps, so Brothers can visit the store to buy some Egwa gear. All in all, Finance is going well; I expect Trading Post sales to continue to increase when new T-shirts arrive in time for Fall Fellowship. I would like to remind all Brothers that it is very important to pay dues for For new Brothers, your 2009 dues were included in your candidate fees. Also, I encourage all Brothers to consider creating and submitting designs for the 2010 patch set. Next year will be the 100th Anniversary of the BSA, so I'm sure you can come up with some good ideas. Yours in Brotherhood, William Horton

Quiver Page NLS & NLAS Information The Southern Region is providing one more National Leadership Seminars (NLS) and one more National Lodge Adviser Training Seminars (NLATS) near us during November 6-8, 2009, Fee: $170, FFA Conference Center, Covington, GA, Deadline: 10/24/09 The National Leadership Seminar (NLS) is a weekend conference focusing on the skills and characteristics of leadership. It is intended primarily to enhance the leadership skills of the Order of the Arrow s key youth and adult members, as they seek to improve their service to the Boy Scouts of America and the greater community. The National Lodge Adviser Training Seminar (NLATS) is also a weekend conference focusing on the skills and attributes of effective lodge and chapter advisers. It is intended primarily to enhance an adviser's knowledge of and connectivity with the OA's strategic plan, program and resources, while emphasizing personal skills that are essential to the development of effective youth leadership and ultimately the OA's service to the council. As space is limited, registration forms may be submitted to hold participant slots, with payment to follow, provided that the payment reaches the Region Office by the deadline date. Please understand that, by submitting a registration form, you have reserved a participant slot in a seminar where slots are limited. As such, you will be expected to pay the fee for each slot reserved. Some financial assistance may be available for youth members. Registration forms and directions to each NLS location can be found by clicking the name of the location on the SR web page. OA Trailblazer Adventure Camp Our OA Trailblazer Adventure Camp will be held at BASR on Oct. 3, We will have a Vigil gathering the night before and our LEC meeting will be held on the following Sunday, so most of us make a weekend out of it. For those of you that missed the last LEC meeting, the Lodge Adviser introduced Mr. John Guerin as our lead adviser for this event. Our lodge chief is seeking a person to be the youth event chair for this camp. If you have a young man in your chapter who you would like to recommend to have this leadership opportunity, please Chief Rajpal Sagoo (chief@aacegwa.org) and Randy Yates (yates55@comcast.net). As you know, the Trailblazer Adventure Camp is VERY important to our lodge budget. All our event fees and dues would cost us all a little more without the Trailblazer Adventure Camp income. It is also a great service to the youngest Scouts of the AAC. We are looking for all our chapters to be involved. Each chapter should have a youth leader with an adviser to handle their part of this great event. All the AAC Cub masters will receive a letter from the lodge asking them to put this event on their Pack's fall calendar. We ask that you also insure that it is on your chapter and district calendars. You will be hearing more from the Mr. John Guerin and our youth Trailblazer Adventure Camp chair as this program develops and your chapter will be asked to take leadership in one or two of the events at the camp. Attention All Chapters The Quiver is essentially for all Egwa chapters to gain information about upcoming events and to let the other chapters know what they are doing. In all publications of the Quiver, each chapter chief (or secretary) is encouraged to submit a report summarizing what has been happening in his chapter. This summary is not limited to just OA stuff. I encourage all chapters to include if you have done any community service projects or camporees for your respective districts. These chapter reports are what really make the Quiver a success so it is imperative that all chapters submit one prior to the deadline. This is an opportunity to let the lodge know how great your chapter is so please do not procrastinate and let the deadline pass. Please your Chapter s report to my vccommunications@aacegwa.org. The deadline for the next Quiver is always the Wednesday after the monthly Lodge Executive Committee meetings. Yours in Scouting, Shannon Snipes

Quiver Page 5 Achewon Woapalanne Chapter Reports What a season of growth and renewal! Spring ordeals are almost behind us and Achewon Woapalanne has grown by almost 60 new members. We had a very successful, if wet, weekend at Woodruff Scout Reservation. Our chapter was represented by more than 40 members and an additional 50 plus candidates. Achewon s ceremony team performed three Pre-Ordeal ceremonies and three Ordeal ceremonies. With mixed emotions we saw the last performances by two of our veteran ceremonialists who will age out later this year; Daniel Terry and Daniel Bruce have both been extremely attentive to their duties and have performed many ceremonies over the past several years. Their moccasins will be hard to fill. As a bonus to all of our new membership, we also had over a dozen brothers seal their membership during the brotherhood ceremony. At the upcoming BASR Ordeals and we will receive another 8-10 candidates. Welcome and congratulations to all! Our chapter regularly meets on the first Thursday of the month, 7:30 9:00pm, at Canton UMC. We are working with some members of the lodge drum team and learning new songs. Mr. Tom Ogletree attended our chapter meeting in May and shared with us a lot of information on dancing and beadwork. We are currently working out details for more workshop-type activities at our monthly meetings; with breakout sessions to interest everyone, whether it is regalia making, drumming and dancing, or ceremony teams. Creek Chapter meetings are held on the third Thursday of the month at the Troop 136 scout hut, Jonesboro First United Methodist Church, from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Welcome to our newest ordeal members. We all had a great time at the BASR Ordeal. One brother sealed his membership in Brotherhood which brings our Chapter conversion to 75% for the year. See you all in July at Summerfest! Cvmpe Vekiwi It has been a long and fruitful past 2 months. Our lodge project (Program Center) at Bert Adams is almost 100 percent done with some minor exceptions. Mr. Wayne Hicks our coordinator and lead adult and Ethan Gordon our youth leader both displayed leadership and many hours of pure labor on remodeling of the Program Center at Bert Adams. With a group of candidates and many adult hours put into the project we feel that the summer camp staff should enjoy the new facility. Our Ceremonies Teams went well above and beyond the call of duty for both Woodruff and Bert Adams Ordeals. At Woodruff we did 4 Pre-Ordeals, 3 Ordeals, and 2 Brotherhoods. At Bert Adams we did 3 Pre-Ordeals, 4 Ordeals, and 1 Brotherhood. Along with the volume the weather was full of rain and lighting. Many Thanks to the support staff that provided the correct setting for the Ceremonies under the conditions. And the Ceremonialist (A) Will Hembree, (M) Drew McLendon, (N) Jacob Acevedo, (K) Zack Voyles, Ethan Tucker, Zack Panse, and Ethan Gordon, all did an outstanding job. We acquired 27 new brothers and 7 brothers confirmed there Brotherhood. We'll take a little rest before NOAC, but not much of one. Welcome new arrowmen, please remember our Chapter Meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at Bethany Christian Church. Highway 61, Dallas, Georgia. Etowah For the Woodruff Ordeal, there were 17 members that went through the Ordeal and one member that went through Brotherhood.. For the Bert Adam's Ordeal, there were 14 that went through Ordeal. Kenesaw Kenesaw chapter been having fun lately and busy. Kenesaw had 54 candidates go through the spring ordeals. Kenesaw also had 13 ordeal members complete the brotherhood trail to become a brotherhood members. We meet the second Thursday of the month at Roswell Street Baptist Church and the third Thursday of the month for our ceremony meeting at Eastminister Presbyterian Church. If there is anyone wanting to be on a ceremony team we would be glad to have you. Lowanne Nimat Things are great here in the Chattahoochee District as we gear up for an amazing summer ahead. A welcome to the 35 new Lowanne Nimat brothers that are just now joining us after their spring ordeals. To kick off such an amazing season, we would like to invite everyone, new and old brothers alike, to our June Meeting Cookout at Wills Park. The event will be at 7:00 under Pavilion 1 (next to the indoor basketball courts and parking lot). Brothers with last names starting with A-L are asked to bring a bag of chips and brother with last names starting with M-Z are asked to bring a dessert. Sodas and food will be provided. And make sure your ready for our annual Ultimate Frisbee game. If you have any questions please contact our Chapter Chief, Paul Danaj, at pedanaj@gmail.com. Hope to see you all there!

Quiver Page 6 Lockchau Talofau Soquili Gvnagei Chapter Reports, Cont. We have made great strides in our chapter in the last 4 months! Elections were done by the end of February, Call out ceremonies, Cross over Ceremonies, Service Projects, and even Pre-O & Ordeal ceremony teams by the Fall Fellowship. Traditions and commitment we have not upheld for awhile. We had the best turn out to an ordeal in 5-10 years. 80 % of all Boy Scout units in our district were represented at the Ordeal at woodruff. The youth and Adults have been challenged to take their obligation to the Order seriously and they are starting stepping up! Our chapter converted all eligible brotherhood members at Woodruff Ordeal. We have a smaller but just as excited group going to Ordeal at Bert Adams. After BASR Ordeal, ALL candidates, 100% called out will have attended an Ordeal. Remember our chapter meetings are every 4th Thursday at 6:30 pm. Sign up NOW for Summer Fest July 18th! Look for more to come from Lockchau Talofau in Nagatamen Nagatamen is currently working on a new program for our brothers and hope to have it in full swing by the end of the summer. We currently have nine new brothers from the Ordeals and we are expecting more at Allatoona at the fall make up ordeal. We have two complete ceremonies teams one Pre-Ordeal and one Ordeal we are working on a Brotherhood Team and will be practicing over the summer to get ready for Allatoona Ordeal. Our Chapter has a great bunch of youth and adults who help out yearly and we hope to grow dramatically in the coming years and hope to retain as many members as possible. Please visit our chapter website at nagatamenoa.clubspaces.com/ for new information. Soquili Gvnagei has had another busy two months. Early in March Soquili Gvnagei put on MOALS or Milton OA Leadership Seminar. We had over 20 participants and the all OA staff had a great time while learning and teaching leadership and teamwork. On the 28 th of March, Soquili Gvnagei volunteered to operate the booth in our area for the Scouting For Food program. We collected over 1000 items for charity. We thoroughly enjoyed Conclave over at Camp Comer, Alabama. We participated in the activities and relished in the delicious food, which was served. Milton District Camporee was held on the Weekend of March 20 at Woodruff Scout Reservation. The Arrow called and tapped out over 100 candidates who have been elected over the past few months by their fellow troop members in our district. We had a new and improved ceremony for the Tap Out, which turned out a huge success. We received nothing but positive comments about the Tap Out from the scouts and scoutmasters in our district. We had 35 OA Candidates complete their ordeal at Woodruff Scout Reservation. They got wet, but they completed their required tasks cheerfully and obediently. They are no longer considered candidates, but now are Ordeal members of the Order of the Arrow. Congratulations to you all on a good job. We also had 6 of our OA members take the next step in the OA, and follow the trail to Brotherhood. For all of our OA brothers both old and new, we are planning to hold a different type of reception at our next chapter meeting on 21 May. We welcome all OA members scouts and adults to join us and enjoy the fellowship. Wear your sash & join us at our Tribal Fires every third Thursday of the month at Alpharetta Presbyterian Church at 7:30. Yours in Brotherhood, Andrew Bates, Vice Chief of Communications

Quiver Page 7 Tella Qualla Boundary Chapter Reports, Cont. Tella Qualla Boundary Chapter has had a busy few months- We just completed the Arrow of Light and Crossover Service season for area Packs and once more provided outstanding ceremonies for our newest Boy Scouts and their families. Our Chapter Belts and Buckles have been a monster hit and the Brothers appear to really enjoy making and wearing their belts. At Woodruff we had 20 candidates inducted into the Order and two Brothers seal their membership in the Brotherhood. The Bert Ordeal finds another 18 candidates inducted and six more Brotherhood conversions. A few more and we have another year of 100%+ Brotherhood conversion rate. Our Extended Elangomat Program is going full steam and we look forward to increased Brotherhood conversions and member retention as a result. Elangomat training, Elections training and sessions devoted to the Customs and Traditions our Order fill Chapter meetings which continue to be well attended averaging 20 youth members. Our District Spring Camporee was a blast. TQB hosted the event with a "James Bond" theme and a great time was had by all. With the new Arrowmen coming into TQB we are looking forward to creating a ceremony understudy program which shall provide a pool of well trained and capable ceremony characters from which we can field several teams within the Chapter. TQB shall continue to meet during the Summer months and focus on Cherokee (circa 1870) regalia construction and our new Drum team. With a pinch of luck we may find a few dancers in our new Brothers as well. In response to requests from a Mowogo Lodge Chapter we are assisting them in ceremony team development as well as extending a helping hand to a couple Egwa chapters which have asked for help in building a strong Chapter. Andrew Dunn No chapter reports submitted from: Echota, Quinigisi, Thennethlofkee, Wachtsu Chuppecat, and Wesadicha EGWA RUNS AWAY WITH THE CONCLAVE AWARDS AGAIN Our Lodge had another very good Section Conclave this year. Egwa s 131 members that attended the SR-9 Section Conclave won in the sports and administrative awards again this year. There were over 700 Arrowmen from the 9 lodges at the first SR-9 Section Conclave at Camp Comer, near Mentone, Alabama. Our Contingent leader Jon Ingram and his adviser Michael Kelly did an outstanding job. Egwa had very nice campsites next to the lake. A tailgate party with grilled items and homemade root-beer was enjoyed by all our lodge members on Friday night. Everyone liked the looks of our lodge contingent game-time t-shirts. The weather was out standing on Saturday for the games and Pow-wow. Our Nagatamen Chapter leadership had 4 tipis, which really added to the flavor of the Pow-Wow. Our past Lodge Chief Kyle Kleppe danced Traditional Style in the intertribal. Egwa almost swept all of the administrative awards. We missed first place for the Best Where to Go Camping Guide by only one point. Egwa took first places in: Best Lodge Planbook, Best Lodge Newsletter, Best Lodge Display, and Best Lodge Website. Again this year, Egwa won the Quest for the Golden Arrow, which is now called by its new name, the Clash of the Four Winds. We took two 1st places, one 2nd, and one 3rd in the 4 Clash of the Four Winds events. Egwa had some standing ceremony teams Medal with Honors this year at the Conclave. Cvmpe Vekiwv Chapter Team medaled in the Pre-Ordeal ceremony. Tella Qualla Boundary Chapter Team medaled in the Brotherhood ceremony. They were the only Brotherhood team to medal at the conclave. Egwa had the following Vigil ceremony medal winners: Jacob Acevedo (Cvmpe Vekiwv Chapter), Ed Lowery (Nagatamen), Mark Boyd (Etowah), Colin Potts (Tella Qualla Boundary), and Bradly Jacquet (Kenesaw). Colin Potts was the CVC of Inter-Lodge Competitions in charge of the games for the Conclave, called the Clash of the Four Winds, and these were a total hit with everyone. Daniel Terry was the CVC in charge of Special Events which include a lodge chief pie eating contest, guess the number of M&M game, dunking booth, and the patch auctions. Rajpal Sagoo was the CVC of Administrative Events and was elected Section Vice-Chief. Shannon Snipes was awarded one of the 12 NOAC scholarships given by the section from funds raised in its patch auctions. As well, many of our lodge members were instructors touring the training sections.

Service Committee Report Brothers, The Service Committee is a part of our lodge that is very important. Our lodge is built upon the ideals of service and the service committee is responsible for recording the hours in which the lodge performs throughout the year which includes service to council and the community. The Service committee appreciates all the service hours turned in throughout the year and this year we hope to exceed all standards of service hours from past years this year in If you are interested in serving on the service committee please feel free to Matt Lyle at servicechairman@aacegwa.org please provide your name, your chapter, and whether you are an adult or youth. Each chapter may have a maximum of two members on the committee at a time to give all chapters a fair say in service matters. The Service Hawk Award was established in 2008 to annually recognize our Brothers who have demonstrated a commitment to cheerful service to both Scouting and their community. This award is earned annually upon completion of the established requirements. Arrowmen must complete the following requirements each year in which they are to earn this award.1. Fulfill eight (8) hours of lodge or chapter sponsored service to a council camp and/or scouting program. (Service to the Lodge is excluded from this tabulation.) 2. Fulfill eight (8) hours of lodge or chapter sponsored service to the community. There is NO FORM to fill out for this award it will all be compiled from the lodge database after all hours are turned in by the Chapter Advisors. Advisors please visit to see how to report service hours. Matthew S. Lyle, Service Committee Chairman Lodge Adviser s Corner Two days after our Summerfest event, the world will mark the 40 th anniversary of Apollo 11 and man s first steps on the moon. On July 20, 1969, most TV sets around the world were turned to a fuzzy black and white picture of Eagle Scout Neal Armstrong stepping off the Eagle lunar landing craft. We still marvel at what they did 40 years ago, a time when the Apollo 11 had less computing power then our $10 pocket calculators has today. It shows, when a group of people working together on a common goal, they can really accomplish anything. Scouting is a lot like that, we see our patrols and crews meeting goals that seem unattainable until everyone works together. See you at the new Summerfest event! Randy Yates Lodge Adviser, yates55@comcast.net About Our Organization The Order of the Arrow is Scouting s national honor society, its purpose, to serve the scouts, troops, and communities it is associated with.
