2 DECEMBER NEWS CLOSURES Edmonds: December 25th, 26th, 28th and 29th for Christmas holidays Gilmore: See the Gilmore calendar for closures! PROGRAMS Holiday Gift in a Jar: Come out and make some affordable cookie mix jars for friends and family (2$ per jar). Sign up on freezer required. Canning: This year we are canning sparkling cranberry and red pepper jellies. Give them away as a gift or enjoy them yourself! 5$ for 12 mini jars. Beat the Holiday Blues: Christmas can be a hard time of year, come brainstorm ways to stay happy and healthy this holiday season. Health During the Holidays: This workshop will focus on how to ensure that you eat healthy food over the holidays. We will also create and sample some healthy snacks Holiday Outing Meeting: Attendance at one of these meetings is mandatory for everyone interested in going on a member-led outing this holiday season. Hot Chocolate Social: Come out for a hot cup of cocoa and a sing-a-long prepared by our member leaders. Vocational lounge: Are you employed or actively looking for employment? Join Kristina for this opportunity to chat with other employed members and work on skill development. Games and Crafts Galore: Join us for a full day of games, cards, charades, and crafts! We will have a movie and dancing in the afternoon. Turkey Lunch: Our annual turkey lunch is back! See staff to sign up for this festive holiday meal for 5$. Breakfast Buffet: Drop in for a free yummy breakfast in the morning, and games in the afternoon.

3 MEMBER'S MEETING Member's meetings are your chance to have share your input on programs, outings, and ECHO in general. Our next member s meeting will be held in January. We would love to hear your ideas and feedback, all members welcome! Treats will be provided for those who attend. Minutes from last member's meeting are below: Staff have noticed low attendance at hot lunch, which started as a way to use up toonie lunch leftovers. As it doesn t follow psychosocial rehabilitation principles to have staff cooking for members, Monday lunch will be cancelled starting in January. In it's place, Cooking for ECHO will take place on on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at noon. Those willing to help cook meals for Mini Mart will sign up on the freezer ahead of time, and help to put food into containers to freeze for mini mart. Those who help will get a free meal! RCCS day thanks to ambassadors for suggesting pizza and making it a two-part program. We will talk about the culture and conversations of recovery. Christmas community events we have a community board so that members can post events happening this Christmas season. Write down events you hear of, and Paul will look up all the details. Members can then informally touch base and self-organize groups to go with. Newsletter group T organizing a newsletter to look back at our amazing accomplishments of Let him know if you are interested. If you have any recipes, photos, poems etc. that you would like to be included pass them along to staff/t! Lorne can offer computer sessions at Gilmore. We will post a calendar of his availability, so members interested in meeting with him can sign-up ahead of time. 8 Poet's Corner SOUL As I slid my body into the water I could feel the temperature change As I attempted to question what had just transpired, I began to recall my past pains and lost, misplaced, future gains As I slid out of the water I realized a kinder, gentler, and now stronger soul had just lifted me higher. Reach for the Stars Our souls gaze into the twinkling moonlight ever so bright Truly all but one heavenly delight Do not let them out of sight For you just mat fight So hold my hand tight With all your miggt Together we will fly a kite This will be all such a delight Reaching our souls take plight Hearts beat as one to a new flight Submitted by Karen James Bruce The Christmas Time Every year, Christmas comes on the 25th of December. Many other festivals are also in the month of December. Christmas is the birthday of the Lord Jesus Christ. Christians all over the world celebrate this festival. Shopping is done before and families are gathering, having dinner, and sharing their thoughts. On the same day, they go to the church to pray and it reminds them of Jesus Christ. This festival brings happiness and joy. Destiny When a child is born, the destiny of this child is written at once in three seconds. The whole life story which will never change. There are some people they believe more in religion, trust in God, some do more often donations, and help those who are in great need.
