5 A Recreational Day for Carers Gold Coast Sailing Club Community Sports House 337 Christine Ave, Varsity Lakes Friday 4 May 2018 Group A: 9.30am to 12.30pm Group B: 11.30am to 2.30pm OR Friday 25 May 2018 Group A: 9.30am to 12.30pm Group B: 11.30am to 2.30pm Join in the fun sailing in the only protected location on the Gold Coast. All welcome, no experience required. Carers who are new to sailing will have an experienced person in the dinghy with them. Everything will be provided all you need to bring is a hat and sunscreen. You will be out on the water for about an hour. Group A will enjoy morning tea before sailing and Group B will have afternoon tea following sailing. 7 Dementia Workshop and Retreat Tuesday 22 May to Wednesday 23 May 2018 Carers Queensland and Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre (CRCC) are offering carers of people with Dementia the opportunity to attend a 2-day workshop, which will include an overnight retreat at Mantra at Sharks. The workshop will provide you with information and skills that can help minimise some of the effects of Dementia on your life. We will also assist you to get a good understanding of the impact Dementia can have on a person s functioning, behavior and lifestyle. There will also be information on Dementia specialist services, respite options and opportunities for carers. The event will conclude with information on aged care facilities, with an overview of the entry process, asset and income assessment, types of fees payable, and a case study to discuss. There are 15 places available. If there are more eligible carers than available, a ballot will be conducted to determine who is offered a place. This is a FREE retreat for carers If you are caring for someone who is living with dementia, and you are registered with, Carers Queensland & CRCC contact us now for this excellent retreat. 8 Mental Health First Aid Training and Retreat Wednesday 20 June to Thursday 21 June 2018 Carers Queensland and Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre (CRCC) are offering carers of people with mental illness the opportunity to attend the 2-day Mental Health First Aid training course, which includes an overnight retreat at Mantra Twin Towns at Coolangatta. FSG Australia Mental Health Service will facilitate the training. Learn first aid skills helpful to adults experiencing a mental health problem. Learn how to recognise signs and symptoms of mental health problems and gain knowledge of possible causes or risk factors. Become aware of various medical, psychological and alternate treatments available and learn how to take appropriate action in a crisis. Carers will also enjoy an overnight stay at Mantra Twin Towns at Coolangatta. This retreat is FREE to carers. There are 16 places available. If more than 16 eligible carers apply, a ballot will be conducted to determine who is offered a place. PLEASE NOTE: To be eligible for this training/retreat carers must be caring for someone with a mental illness and be registered with Carers Queensland and CRCC. Preference is given to those who have not been on a CRCC funded Retreat in 2017 or You can register with both organisations when you apply for this retreat. 9 First Aid Training Days In Conjunction with CRCC we are delighted yet again to provide the opportunity for Carers to learn First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. These recognized qualifications will be completed over two Fridays at The Varsity Sport and Recreational Club, Christine Ave, Varsity Lakes. Learn the basics of First Aid. 10 Phone: (8:30am 4:00pm M-F) COMMUNITY EVENTS OR INFORMATION Recharge points for electric mobility devices The City has partnered with Recharge Scheme Australia to provide a citywide network of designated, free to use power points for people to safely recharge the battery of their electric mobility device. The RECHARGE Scheme is a national not for profit organisation which partners with local governments, businesses and community organisations to designate recharge point locations so electric wheelchair and scooter users can move around with certainty and confidence. Designated recharge point locations have appropriate access requirements to ensure that users can travel easily and safely. Look for the Recharge Point logo displayed at participating City Libraries and Community Centres. Mobility maps for key locations across the Gold Coast are now available. The maps contain accessibility information designed to assist you in getting around key precincts safely.
