Whether you want to leave a legacy for your children or simply thirst to be known writing your own life story is a great way to savor the richness of your life. Francine will guide you through a process that will make this often daunting experience simple, enjoyable and illuminating. You ll leave with a template and tools you need to get started. No charge. In this seminar we will examine the various reactions by patients, families, friends and caregivers to a life-threatening medical condition and offer guidance to navigate the emotional trials that often accompany the cancer journey. In this workshop, we talk about our fears, beliefs, desires and hopes regarding death. We listen to the stories of others. It s a recipe that can have a profound effect on the way we carry on living. Join us for a screening of the award winning film, Facing Death with open eyes, some heart-opening exercises and an engaging discussion about living with dying. No charge. Register at (415) Caring for the Dying: The Art of Being Present Thursday, August 25, 6-8 p.m. In the face of impending death, the needs of the caregiver are often forgotten. Yet, the wellbeing of the caregiver is actually essential to the well-being of the one who is dying. In this workshop we explore the caregiver s hopes, fears, regrets and desires. It is a workshop for both the patient and the caregiver. Join us for a screening of the award winning film Caring for Dying: the Art of Being Present and an engaging discussion about the art and the ache of accompanying the dying. No charge. We offer a range of programs designed to bring persons with cancer together, foster community, educate and offer effective tools to help navigate the disease process. Most of our programs are free to anyone living with cancer, regardless of where they receive care. Our services include: Individualized assistance in finding information on diagnosis, treatment and support services. A specialized lending library with books, audio and video. Workshops and classes on a variety of topics of interest to persons with cancer and their families. Referrals to community resources and other UCSF programs. Support groups for a variety of cancers and referral to more than 500 other Bay Area support groups. One-on-one peer support for persons with cancer and their spouses or partners. Exercise classes including core strength, qi gong, yoga and restorative movement. Nutritional counseling and seminars. Medical appointment planning to help people with cancer get the most from their doctor visits. guided imagery classes A comfortable space to relax, knit or have a cup of tea.
