2 MEDICINE EMERGENCY Parc 55 Wyndam San Francisco San Francisco, CA November 12-14, 2012 The UCSF Department of Emergency and Office of Continuing Medical Education are proud to offer the 41st Annual Topics in Emergency. Course topics, both adult and pediatric, are selected to represent those that emergency medicine and urgent care practitioners must remain wary of in order to provide cutting edge care, minimize risk (both to patient and provider), and comply with performance measures. We have assembled award-winning educational leaders from the UCSF Department of Emergency and UCSF s world-renowned specialists to lead our lectures and workshops with the emphasis on initial evaluation, treatment and indications for consultation and referral. EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES An attendee completing the Topics in Emergency course should be able to: Describe evidence-based methods for evaluation and treatment of a wide variety of emergency medical and traumatic presentations; Identify advances in emergency medical care that can improve outcomes and compliance with performance measures while minimizing risk to patients and providers; Improve technical skills in airway management, procedural ultrasound, and dental procedures through hands-on teaching. An attendee completing the Topics in Emergency Ultrasound should be able to: Describe the physics of ultrasound; Recognize ultrasound images of both normal and abnormal anatomy from video review and live models; Improve ultrasound technical skills crucial for bedside diagnosis and management of an assortment of emergency presentations through hands-on teaching and observation. ACCREDITATION The University of California, San Francisco School of (UCSF) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UCSF designates this live activity for a maximum of AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. UCSF designates the Topics in Emergency Ultrasound course for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. This CME activity meets the requirements under California Assembly Bill 1195, continuing education and cultural and linguistic competency. The California Board of Pharmacy accepts as continuing professional education those courses that meet the standard of relevance to pharmacy practice and have been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit. Family Physicians: Application for CME credit has been filed with the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP). Determination of credit is pending. Physician Assistants: AAPA accepts category 1 credit from AOACCME, Prescribed credit from AAFP, and AMA Category 1 Credit for the PRA for organizations accredited by the ACCME. Pain Management and End-of-Life Care: The approved credits shown above include 3.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits towards meeting the requirement under California Assembly Bill 487, Pain Management and Care for the Terminally Ill. Trauma: The approved credits shown above include 4.75 for Topics in Emergency course and 2.25 for Topics in Emergency Ultrasound toward satisfying the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma requirement for trauma-related continuing medical education. ACEP: Application has been made to the American College of Emergency Physicians for ACEP Category I credit. Determination of credit is pending.
