2 UCSF AUDIOLOGY UPDATE XIII HOTEL KABUKI, CA OVERVIEW This course is designed as a state of the art update of contemporary audiological practice, including music induced hearing loss, hidden hearing loss, dementia, forensic audiology, tinnitus management, incorporating telehealth into your practice, surgical management of vestibular disorders, ototoxic and neurotoxic effects of cancer treatment, importance of communication and effective team work in clinical care, and the future of audiology. Although it is intended as a course for practicing audiologists, professionals engaged in hearing aid dispensing, audiology graduate students, physicians, and others involved in the management of adults and children with hearing disorders will also benefit. The format consists of lectures presented by renowned faculty from around the country and updates on new technology presented by manufacturer representatives. CONFERENCE LEARNING OBJECTIVES An attendee completing this course will be able to: Explain the factors which contribute to music-induced hearing loss and describe the state of the science in this field; Describe the role of audiologic services in long term management of persons with dementia; Restate the surgical treatment options for vestibular disorders as well as applied vestibular physiology; Utilize tips to incorporate telehealth into your clinical practices; Identify the skills psychologists provide in assessing the patient with tinnitus and assess the psychological impact of tinnitus and red flags for referral to mental health; Discuss and apply cognitive behavioral interventions to a clinical case; Describe the responsibilities that go along with being a consultant, examiner, and expert witness in medical legal cases; Employ testing strategies and analysis of data that can be useful in preparing for testimony and depositions; Employ audiologic test battery that can be useful in identifying hidden hearing loss; Apply guidelines for adult ototoxic and vestibulotoxic monitoring and treatment, and new models for assessing pure tone thresholds in adults pre-, during, and post chemotherapy; Apply tips for effective communication and teamwork in providing excellent care; Discuss current activities, procedures, and changes within California s professional organization (CAA) and regulatory board (SLPAHADB); Discuss the profession and practice of audiology as it currently exists with the past as context and a backdrop to the future. Participants will receive the planned learner outcomes in the printed brochure, on our website and in the syllabus they receive at the conference. ACCREDITATION The is a Speech- Language Pathology and Audiology and Hearing Aid Dispensers Board (SLPAHADB) approved provider for continuing professional development courses. This live activity meets the qualifications for 12.5 hours of continuing professional development credit for audiologists as required by SLPAHADB. Provider Number: PDP364 It includes at least 6 hearing aid dispensing hours as required by SLPAHADB. An SLP is able to apply up to 4 hours. is approved by the American Academy of Audiology to offer Academy CEUs for this activity. The program is worth a maximum of 1.25 CEUs.
