2 2009 Annual Meeting North Carolina Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons & South Carolina Society of Ophthalmology September 10-13, 2009 Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes Myrtle Beach, South Carolina This continuing medical education activity is jointly sponsored by the North Carolina Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the North Carolina Medical Society
3 NC Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons and the SC Society of Ophthalmology Annual Meeting Meeting Description and Objectives This meeting is designed for ophthalmologists and will provide attendees an opportunity to increase their knowledge and improve their skills in the diagnosis and treatment of frequently encountered patient care problems. The program will also examine the effects of today s changing health care environment on medical practice. At the conclusion of this educational activity, participants should be able to: Evaluate and apply new intraocular lens and anterior segment technologies, and recognize and treat possible associated postoperative complications Assess how and when to use new ophthalmic imaging modalities Recognize, diagnose and treat specific ophthalmic conditions Discuss various advances in oculoplastic procedures, their risks and benefits Enumerate ethics and risk management strategies in ophthalmology Improve management of challenging patients with ocular disease Formulate strategies to reduce professional liability Accreditation This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials and Standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the joint sponsorship of the North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) and the North Carolina Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. The NCMS is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Credit The North Carolina Medical Society designates this educational activity for a maximum of 13.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s) TM. Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Disclosure The North Carolina Medical Society adheres to ACCME Essential Areas and policies regarding industry support of continuing medical education. Commercial support for the program and faculty relationships within the industry will be disclosed at the activity. Speakers will also state when off-label or experimental use of drugs or devices is incorporated in their presentations. Meeting Features This year s Annual Meeting will include several activities beyond the Scientific Sessions for your enjoyment. The Exhibit Hall will again complement the educational component of the meeting and give attendees access to vendors of products and services helpful to an ophthalmology practice. The Exhibit Hall will be open on Friday and Saturday. Refreshments will be available in the Exhibit Hall prior to each day s session and at scheduled breaks. The Thursday evening welcome reception will provide an opportunity to renew acquaintances and meet new colleagues. Friday afternoon will feature a golf outing at Pine Lakes Golf Course (fee includes boxed lunch and prizes) or other recreation of your choice. The Friday evening dinner will be a family-friendly, casual affair featuring entertainment. The resident poster display will be available for viewing on Saturday and Sunday mornings; winners of the competition will be announced Sunday before the close of the meeting. Saturday afternoon and evening are free to enjoy the area s many attractions or to relax at the beach or at the Marriott s full-service spa. Attire for the meeting and social events is business casual or resort casual. Meeting Registration Registration fees are noted on the registration form. Fees for spouses, guests and children include the Thursday evening welcome reception and Friday evening dinner and entertainment. Golf fees are additional and are not included in the meeting registration fee. Registrations made after this date will incur a higher fee. Please note that refunds of registration fees will not be made after Monday, August 31. Location/Accommodations The 2009 Annual Meeting will take place at the four-diamond, familyfriendly oceanfront Myrtle Beach Marriott Resort at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach, SC.
