2 Who We Are The Natalie Williams Breast Care Foundation (NWBCF), founded in January 2013, is the leading voice in the promotion of breast care awareness among women of color. We focus specifically on the breast cancer disease and early detection, and the overall promotion of healthy breast care. Our efforts are targeted in the African American, Latino, Asian, African, and Caribbean communities across the DC Metropolitan area. Why We Matter Breast Cancer affects different populations differently, and minority groups in the United States continue to bear a greater cancer burden. Much of this difference is due to factors like poverty and lack of access to prevention/detection services and high-quality treatment, according to a report in the American Cancer Facts & Figures 2013, a yearly American Cancer Society publication. For instance, African American and Hispanic women in the US have higher poverty rates and are less likely to have health insurance, making it harder for them to get the care they need. Washington DC, our nation s capital, has the highest number of breast cancer rates in the United States, and the highest mortality rate. Breast Cancer Incidences in Women by Race and Ethnicity, Non- Hispanic White African Americans American Indian/Alaska Native Hispanic/Latina Number of Breast Cancer Deaths per 100,000 Women out of 8 women in the United States will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Unfortunately, African American and Latina women are dying in Breast Cancer Mortality in Women by Race and Ethnicity, Non- Hispanic White African Americans American Indian/Alaska Native Hispanic/Latina Asian or Pacific Islander Number of Breast Cancer Deaths per 100,000 Women disproportionate numbers because of the barriers they face while fighting this disease. 3 Dear Potential Supporter: On behalf of the Natalie Williams Breast Care Foundation (NWBCF), I am writing to you to request your financial support for the 2017 Bustier Brunch - An Afternoon with the Girls. Our 5th annual fundraising event will be held on Sunday, October 1, 2017 from 1pm-5pm at the Camelot by Martin s, Central Ave., Upper Marlboro, MD. Women of color are dying from breast cancer in disproportionate numbers because of the barriers they face while fighting the disease. In an effort to close this disparity gap, the NWBCF was founded to promote breast care awareness among women of color with a specific focus on the breast cancer disease and early detection, and the overall promotion of healthy breast care. Our efforts are targeted in the African American, Latino, African, and Caribbean communities. We are registered in the District of Columbia as a non-profit organization 501c3. Your support of this event helps to further our Test My Breasts citywide campaign. Our campaign is targeted specifically in urban communities across the Washington DC Metropolitan area. We partner with local hospitals and health agencies that provide the best testing and follow up care for women 40 and over. Our goal is to screen thousands of women of color for breast cancer through the month of October which is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness month. 6 BUSTIER BRUNCH Bustie r Br unch Highlight s OUR KEYNOTE SPEAKER: Ms. Lynn Whitfield, Award-Winning Actress Lynn Whitfield vaulted to international attention in the title role of The Josephine Baker Story (1991), the HBO biopic requiring her to age from 18 to 68 to portray the Follies Bergere star turned Resistance and civil rights fighter. In a highly publicized search that rivaled that of the hunt for Scarlett O Hara in Gone with the Wind, she beat out more than 500 women considered worldwide for the role and won an Emmy, achieving the greatest sense of accomplishment and realization of my vision.

7 NATALIE WILLIAMS Breast Cancer Survivor The Natalie Williams Breast Care Foundation (NWBCF), founded in January 2013, is the leading voice in the promotion of breast care awareness among women of color. We focus specifically on the breast cancer disease and early detection, and the overall promotion of healthy breast care. Our efforts are targeted in the African American, Latino, African, and Caribbean communities across the globe. The NWBCF organization is governed by an elected Board of Directors, which is comprised of survivors and supporters of breast cancer. We are supported by a medical advisory team of doctors and nurses who practice in the areas of breast surgery, oncology, radiology and healthy living with practices at Howard University Hospital, United Medical Center, and George Washington University Hospital. NWBCF was founded following Ms. Williams journey with breast cancer at the age of 41. After being diagnosed in July of 2012, she underwent a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and radiation in an effort to combat the disease. Today, she attributes her remission to an increased awareness of the risk factors of breast cancer and her continued focus on a healthy mind, body, and spirit. For more information visit us at.
