Located on a 60-acre historic West Marin ranch we pair gentle horses with trained staff and amid breathtaking landscapes we promote a life without barriers. As a non-profit 501(c)(3) we rely on the support of individuals to enable us to offer our services to the widest group of people possible. About our Annual Dinner and Silver Buckle Award In 2016 we are delighted to honor Dr. Temple Grandin with our Silver Buckle Award. riding a horse isn t what it looks like: it isn t a person sitting in a saddle telling the horse what to do by yanking on the reins. Real riding is a lot like ballroom dancing, or maybe figure skating in pairs. It s a relationship. Temple Grandin, in her book Animals in Translation. Temple has educated the world to the potential of people living with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Asked to speak at hundreds of universities, conferences and businesses, her advice is simple; focus on skill building and not deficits. A Professor of Animal Science at Colorado State University she is a prominent author and speaker on the subject of autism. An animal lover since childhood, her autism has fueled her success as a designer of livestock handling facilities and her advocacy on behalf of animals. She will be selling and signing her books. This is our signature event offering an opportunity to socialize with old and new friends, enjoy fine food and wine and learn more about HCR s therapeutic riding program and our accomplishments. A live and silent auction will offer tempting one-of-a-kind items including travel and adventure, exclusive wines, outdoor gear and more. Proceeds from the event provide scholarship funding for riders and help care for our herd of 19 therapy horses. 1
