1 News Monday 24th July 2017 World Literacy Month Meets weekly at Benito s Restaurant 1196 Nepean Highway, Mount Eliza pm for 6.30pm start PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Dear Members and Friends of Rotary, For 2017/2018 you will notice a different format for our Bulletin. As seen below there will be a focus on hours and funds contributed. HOURS COMPLETED: 36 FUNDS RAISED: $ We are at the beginning of what we all hope will be an exciting year for our Club. Can I ask you all to give your attention to fundraising so we can have ROTARY - MAKING A DIFFERENCE. The Bulletin Editor will be in contact with each of you during the year. He will give you 6 questions and you can choose which 3 to answer. This week we feature President Elect, Chris Williams. John Drysdale (Guest Speaker) Meeting Notes Monday 17 July 2017 President Tom Goulding opened the meeting and welcomed the Guest Speaker John Drysdale. Tom then announced that the Ampara District Grant application was successful for an amount of $2,000, however the Mornington Park Primary District Grant missed out in the first round. An amount of $500 has however been made available through the Mount Martha Bendigo Bank Community Grants Scheme. Tom also reminded the members that subscriptions were due on the 1 st July and that many were still outstanding. If these could be transferred or paid through to the Club Account as soon as possible. Secretary, Peter advised that there will be a Special Board Meeting tonight and a full Board Meeting on the 31 st July. He also advised that the Club had received an Insurance Guide which outlines procedures for any project or activity with effect from the 1 st July. Peter also advised that Paul Clark had sustained an injury on the football field on the weekend and was recovering in Frankston Hospital. Colin Stokes then asked members to put their names down for the Bunnings BBQ to be held on the 29 th July. He then outlined some work to date on the Club documents which can be found on the Members Section on the website including the cash reconciliation documents. Please take your time and check out the website. Phyl Scales thanked those who packed up after the Art Show on Sunday night and also asked us to consider anyone that we can nominate between the ages of 18 to 27 as potential Rotary Youth Leadership Award attendees. The Balcombe Grammar interviews are to take place on the 29 th August. Tom then introduced Roger Annear as Chairman for the night, who in turn welcomed the Sergeant, Peter Warren. There were over 13 fines; we saw Bill Branthwaite again fined for being photographed this time with three women. In recognition of the feats of Federer all the Rogers in the Club were fined, together with a myriad of birthday and football fines. With the Swindle, conducted by Roger Annear the Club again held onto the kitty. Chairman, Roger then introduced our Guest Speaker, John Drysdale who gave us a terrific address on the Men s Shed. The meeting was then closed by President Tom thanking everyone for their attendance and with a brief further update on Paul Clark s condition.

Rotary Basics This colourful, 8 pages glossy brochure, produced by RI, outlines Rotary and its many projects. Great for prospective and new members. It also comes in a snappy multi-media version, just perfect as a link on a club website. All versions are available for purchase and free download from RI website. 2. Membership Development Resource Guide Despite its 40 pages, this is an easy to read guide for clubs wishing to get serious about membership development and growth. It s ideally suited for Presidents, Boards and Membership Chairs/Directors who are responsible for membership strategy. Available for free download from the RI website: Club Assessment Tools Not sure how your club is travelling? RI s Club Assessment Tools are a great starting point, and a companion to the Membership Development Resource Guide. The tools provide survey like resources which clubs can use and adapt to assess things like member satisfaction, club diversity and classification diversity. It even contains an survey for resigning members. Again, great for use by Presidents, Boards and Membership Chairs at club or even district level. 4. Membership resources for Rotary clubs and districts This one is actually a webpage a one stop shop for all RI s membership materials. So, if you re not sure what you re looking for, this is a great place to start. It also has fantastic, up to date membership data just perfect as a filler in a club bulletin! strategies for recruiting and retaining members This little classic contains 101 tried and true techniques for recruiting and retaining members. It was written by Rotarians in District 9780 Australia, and is a great place to go when you ve just run out of ideas, or you think you ve tried everything. Empower your Rotary Club with RI Resources for Membership Development We might be cheating a bit here this one s really a quick and easy summary of all the RI publications and resources for membership and club development. It lists the resources, price and availability and covers everything you could want from attracting new members, to retention, to revitalising your club, to great Rotary projects. Definitely worth a look: Rotary On The Move Newsletter Where would we be without this little gem, the monthly Newsletter (except for January) is jam packed with ideas on membership development, retention and growth. Subscribe by ing the editor Issa Shalhoub. 8. Membership Minute Not to be outdone by Malcolm s newsletter, RI also produces a regular membership newsletter. It s a handy newsletter, containing membership development ideas, tips and tools. It regularly features the latest Rotary research, strategies to attract prospective memberships, and tips to retain existing members. It provides a great international perspective on Rotary. Subscribe via Member Access on the RI website. 9. ABCs of Rotary This brochure, available from RI s shop online, is a compilation of short, easy to read and informative articles about Rotary history and projects. Particularly suitable for prospective and new members, or even the older members! 10. Rotary Video Magazine This one is a little different, but a perfect filler for meetings, conferences and other events. Rotary Video Magazine contains short, professionally produced, video presentations about a host of Rotary projects across all areas of service. Great to introduce new and existing members to the amazing impact of Rotary across the world. 11. Guest Speakers Your district may have a number of talented speakers who are able to attend clubs and work through Membership ideas. 12. Webinars Recordings. The initiative of Jesse Harman, Zone 8 Membership Director. Each webinar features guest panellists with direct experience, as well as a host of useful ideas and tips for Rotarians.
