1 Bulletin Monday 26th September 2016 Meets weekly at Benito s Restaurant 1196 Nepean Highway, Mount Eliza I S S U E N O 1 3, / pm for 6.30pm start September is Basic Education & Literacy Month Hello Rotarians D O U G S DAT A Colin Stokes's presentation was what our club really needed in order that members get the most out of what is a very worthwhile website. It is so easy to sit back and read the bulletin, but we need people to contribute to our own club website and keep all the other sections up to date. This site increases our credibility and has a powerful impact on a potential member's confidence in us. A professionally designed, well-written and helpful site will promote trust in our club as well as providing good contact information, which lets people know we are knowledgeable and up to date. This is why Colin is doing such a magnificent job in keeping our webpage as up to date as is possible, and why we need to assist him in keeping all information current. Bill had a few strong words on the poor response he gets for volunteers to undertake special projects. Bill's comment that on the one hand all of us are wanting our club to be a "doers" club, but at the same time he finds it difficult to get people to volunteer their time for special or one-off projects. This is a real problem for Bill and he needs more people to put their hand up when volunteers are sort after. I do understand that for those working during the week this can be a difficult time, but this indeed is only a small minority and there are many of us who do have time, and who can put themselves out for a few hours when the time arises. So I do ask members to seriously think about requests and give time to Bill when he asks for volunteers. A reminder that our day at the Portsea Camp Working Bee will be the Saturday October 8th, so please put this in your Calendar as we would like a good roll up for this event. And finally there is an invitation to the Charter Lunch for Rotary Club of Latitude 38 in Cranbourne. This is the newest club in District 9820 and will be held in the Tarnuk Room in the Cranbourne Royal Botanic Gardens on Saturday November 19th. Wells are being dug in India, blind children are using Braille typewriters in Brazil, toilets are part of improved sanitation in Sri Lanka, and dental treatment is available to the needy in Nicaragua. In a world where the divide between the haves and have nots is growing, we as Rotarians must do our part and do good in the world. Contributions from every Rotarian to the Annual Fund every year are critical to making a difference in our world. Club President Doug has committed $100 of club funds for each club member to the Foundation. Why don't you become a Rotary Centurian? Make a personal $100 tax deductable donation to the Rotary Foundation? All Centurian funds raised in Australia are spent in Australia on Australian projects. Find $100 to contribute annually to the Rotary Foundation. Pick up a Rotary Centurian Money Collector available from Roger Annear Pop in your $2 per week for 50 weeks and you will have your $100.
