Welcome to... Champions of Change BBC Children in Need is back. And this year we re partnering with Lloyds Bank to bring you Champions of Change a brand new, fully-resourced approach to schools fundraising. YOUR SCHOOL FUNDRAISING pack! Champions of Change is an exciting education initiative that puts young people in charge. They ll plan and run their own fundraising events to raise money for BBC Children in Need. As a result, they ll develop new skills, meet curriculum requirements, have loads of fun and raise money to help children and young people across the UK who need it most. Last year s trial of Champions of Change was a phenomenal success. Students were inspired and empowered by their fundraising and teachers were impressed by the ready-to-use resources which made the whole process simple. This year, with your help, our ambition is to make 2015 the biggest fundraising year yet, positively impacting more children than ever before. Change starts here! Thank you in advance for your support. You can fi nd all the Pudsey goodies you need, in our online shop

As easy as 1,2,3 Champions of Change is a fundraising journey. And each journey has a beginning, a middle and an end. Here s yours Launch Help students organise their own Launch Assembly to get the whole school buzzing about what s coming up. Celebrate Celebrate everything that your school has achieved in a memorable Celebration of Champions assembly. If you ve got budding cameraoperators or photographers in school, assign them with the task of capturing the fundraising on camera. Action Students put on their fundraising events. They ll fi nd all the tools they need to run bake sales, concerts, challenges, and fancy dress events online. But if students have their own ideas about what they want to do, embrace their spirit and go freestyle! There are customisable posters, sponsorship forms and worksheets online that they can use. It s up to you and your students how your fundraising plays out perhaps each year group could take responsibility for a different activity or the whole school might back one huge event. Find ideas, information, resources and inspiration at As well as this pack, there are loads more resources online to help plan educational activities and get your fundraising off to a flying start, including Full lesson plans. Your students very own Champions Log Book to download and fi ll in. PowerPoint presentations that students can use as the starting point for their Launch Assembly and Celebration of Champions. Fun videos to inspire and motivate, starring celebrities that students know and love! A sponsorship form to print out for fundraising activities. Posters to promote events and a totaliser for students to keep track of how much money they ve raised. Loads of ideas for fantastic fundraising activities! Now it s your turn Make sure students know that they are in charge but point out which teachers will be on hand to help as they plan their events What s it like to be a Champion? I think the programme was good because we ran it all including all of the events. It was good because we were helping children in situations we could find ourselves in. I liked the videos from the famous people as it made me see that everyone wants to help a good cause. Chloe, age 15, Cartmel Priory School

LAUNCH WITH A BANG! Take a day off from school assembly and hand the reins over to the students. Students will need to plan an exciting Launch Assembly to kick-start Champions of Change in your school. Allow plenty of time for planning and brief them that their assembly needs to: Grab everyone s attention. Inform students about what Champions of Change is and why you re fundraising. Get the whole school excited about all the activities coming up. Inspire people to want to join in the fun and get involved. Get started today Students fi rst step in planning their Launch Assembly is to go online. Here they can: Download the Champions Log Book to help and guide them on their fundraising journey. Check out the Launch Presentation to use in your assembly. View videos of some of the children who have been helped through money from BBC Children in Need that they can use to highlight the ways their fundraising can help. Get students thinking about what specifi c information they could add to their presentation your school s fundraising target, plans for activities or some information about BBC Children in Need projects in your area? Encourage students to play to each person s strengths and take on board personal preferences as they plan their assembly. Certain people will be happy speaking, others will prepare great scripts and technical people will be needed to ensure all goes without a hitch on the day. This is the perfect opportunity for students to develop their negotiating and team-working skills! Create enough time and space for students to rehearse their assembly so that they feel confi dent. Congratulate your students! They ve taken their fi rst step towards becoming Champions of Change! Find everything you need to help plan a Launch Assembly at

Take action and raise money re you get to This is the bit whe and raise loads have loads of fun oking for a of cash. If you re lo read on bit of inspiration, BA K E! Get competitive Make it a baking battle Organise a staff vs. students bake-off! Charge a fee to watch the fun and sell the final products. Guess the weight Make an enormous cake you could ask your friends to bake a layer each and assemble a cake tower. Ask for donations to guess the weight. Whoever s guess is closest gets the cake!! E G N E L L A CH If you re up for a challenge and like a laugh, then a challenge fundraiser is the one for you. Get active Whether it s walking, running, cycling, dancing, space hopper-ing or a good old penalty shootout, sporty sponsorship is a great way to raise money and get fit! Give it up What can t you live without? Sweets? Magazines? Your games console? TV? Get sponsored to give something up for a week and donate the money you raise. Spelling bee Test yourselves and your friends in a spelling bee competition. Why not get your teachers involved to see if they re as clever as they think? Roll up! How about organising a lunchtime Pudsey fair, with stalls and games for students to try? Get started today Round up the school s keenest bakers and cake-lovers to form Team Bake. Decide how you re going to raise money through your baking. Promote your event and make sure people know to come to school with some cash that day. Find posters that you can customise at Get baking, icing, selling and judging and counting up the cash! Get started today Rally the support of your most competitive friends and form Team Challenge. Come up with ideas for challenges, games, and quizzes. Promote your event and encourage others to get involved. Find posters online at Photocopy this page as a student resource

ENTERTAIN! Your school s sure to be packed with talented individuals just waiting for the chance to strut their stuff! Stage a talent show Calling all mini-magicians, budding Beyoncés and riveting writers! A talent show gives everyone a chance to shine in their own unique way. Charge each entrant and let the donations build up along with the talent. Sing your heart out! Give all those would-be pop stars their moment in the spotlight at lunchtime karaoke. Charge singers per song and, to really boost your fundraising, charge the audience to come and listen. Musical marathon Bring together the school bands, groups and choirs for a sponsored musical marathon that will get everyone dancing and singing along for a day. DRESS-UP! Rummage through the dressing-up box and dig out those superhero costumes It s time to not just be a fundraising hero, but to look like one too! Superhero style Celebrate your school s heroic fundraising efforts with a hero-themed fancy dress day. Charge your heroes for dressing up for the day and together you ll be doing your bit to save the world! Pudsey-fy yourselves Show your respect for Pudsey by wearing Pudsey ears, wristbands, bandanas and badges with pride! You can get them all online or make your own. Ask everyone to bring in a donation on the day. Hair dare Charge people to have a mad hair day the bigger and crazier the better wigs allowed. You could even turn it into a competition and award a prize for the craziest hair (a free haircut, maybe?!). Photocopy this page as a student resource Get started today Whether you re a singer, dancer, actor or artist, join up with your friends to form Team Entertain. Decide on what your entertainment will be. Organise who will do what and start promoting your event. Remember there are posters online at Or use your home-grown talent and make your own. Great talent is always worth celebrating but ultimately, your event is about raising money so be clear about how you ll do this. It could be through ticket sales, auction or competition entry fees. Get rehearsing practice makes perfect! Get started today Find your most flamboyant friends and form Team Dress Up. Decide on your dressing-up theme choose from the ideas here or come up with your own. Make sure everyone knows what s going on. You can download and customise your posters at On the big day, charge everyone to come to school in costume.

At the end of your fundraising journey, make time for students to celebrate what they ve achieved with a Celebration of Champions assembly. This is a time for students to look back on all the fun activities that have been going on in school and to be proud of all that they ve achieved. It s a time to thank everyone who has taken part in fundraising activities, whether through planning or running events, clearing up afterwards or simply joining in and donating money. Everyone has played their part in changing the lives of children who are just like them but who are going through a difficult time. Finally, this is a time for students to take to the stage and entertain each other with singing, dancing, music, jokes and magic. And to round the whole thing off, let organisers announce how much money the school has raised! This is your Champions of Change grand finale. Make it unforgettable. The Celebration of Champions will be an assembly like no other. Enjoy it! Get started today Another chance for students to develop their event-planning, organisational and team-working skills. There are loads of resources at to help them plan their Celebration of Champions. They ll need to decide on the entertainment singing, dancing, magic, jokes Whatever they do, it should involve as many people as possible. Students should collect information about all the different fundraising that s been going on in school, across all year groups to present at the celebration any budding researchers or journalists out there? Perhaps certifi cates or house/class points could be awarded on the day for categories like most original fundraising idea, event that raised the most, most fun event, etc. (students should try to ensure each activity wins something). If you ve had a roving camera-person fi lming events or taking photos, get a techie team to edit some clips together or a creative team to put together a photo display to show off the school s collective fundraising efforts. Get students sharpening up their presentation skills with rehearsals! CELEBRATE IN STYLE Find your celebrity thank you videos online

THANK YOU FOR HELPING Lauren Read more about the children you help at Every penny you give will go towards helping children in real need, just like Lauren Lauren is 15, has a brain tumour and takes 30 tablets a day. The past few years have been a challenge for Lauren. After collapsing at school with headaches, Lauren was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Following major brain surgery she had a stroke and fell into a coma. A range of medical complications followed, including diabetes, early menopause and a condition that causes constant sleepiness. Lauren has missed a lot of school, lost touch with some friends and is unable to go out as freely. The Action Cancer centre in Northern Ireland has become a sanctuary for Lauren and her mum. Counselling and complementary therapies offer a chance to escape from the constant stream of medical appointments. Massage, reflexology and aromatherapy help Lauren to relax and sleep peacefully. Your fundraising means projects like Action Cancer will be able to continue offering a lifeline to young people in Northern Ireland like Lauren, whose world has been turned upside down by cancer. Action Cancer provides an opportunity for me and my mum to have some quality time together. It s the one thing I really look forward to. Lauren 10 All the money you raise will go towards helping children in real need, right here in the UK 1 15 helps an 11 year old girl who s been bullied make friends at her local youth club. pays for a music therapy session to bring joy to a 6 year old girl with a brain tumour. means a 12 year old boy with learning difficulties gets to play and learn at a football and literacy project.

PEOPLE POWER! Just before you let them loose make sure students know who they can turn to for support with their fundraising. There are at least four sources of help below, you might think of more: Their first port of call is each other they ll be amazed at what they can achieve together. Group work allows students to bounce around ideas, help each other out, pull together as a team and have a laugh! As the school s lead teacher for Champions of Change reassure students that if they re worried or unsure about something, you ll always be on hand. Family members it s their job to help! And there s loads of roles they can fi ll: sponsor, baker, audience member, chauffeur If your school has a Lloyds Bank volunteer, remind the students to make the most of their fundraising advice and fi nancial know-how.
