Welcome to... Champions of Change BBC Children in Need is back. And this year we re partnering with Bank of Scotland to bring you Champions of Change a brand new, fully-resourced approach to schools and early years fundraising. Champions of Change is an exciting education initiative that puts children at the heart of fundraising. For nurseries and other early years settings, it s a great opportunity for engaging learning that will develop children s sensitivity to the needs of others and enable them to make a difference. They ll also have lots of fun in the process! YOUR FUNDRAISING pack! Last year s trial of Champions of Change was a phenomenal success. Learners were inspired and empowered by their fundraising and teachers were impressed by the ready-to-use resources which made the whole process simple. This year, with your help, our ambition is to make 2015 the biggest fundraising year yet, positively impacting more children than ever before. Change starts here! Thank you in advance for your support. You can fi nd all the Pudsey goodies you need, in our online shop
3, 2, 1 s a y s As ea Champions of Change is a fundraising journey. And each journey has a beginning, a middle and an end. Here s yours As well as this pack, there are loads more resources online to help plan educational activities and get your fundraising off to a flying start, including Planning tools to help you launch Champions of Change in your school or nursery. PowerPoint presentations to use as the starting point for your Launch Event and Celebration of Champions. Fun videos to inspire you and the learners, starring some of their favourite celebrities. Lesson plans for fun-based learning. Launch Get your fundraising journey off to a great start with an exciting Launch Event. How about inviting parents along too? Action Raise money by organising fundraising activities and get your learners developing new skills. There are loads of ideas, lesson plans and resources online to help you. Posters, including a totaliser to keep track of how much money you ve raised. Downloadable event poster template to let parents know what you re planning. Loads of ideas for fantastic fundraising activities! Now it s your turn Celebrate As a grand finale, organise a Celebration of Champions event to record your achievements and celebrate your success. u F ind everything yo at need to get started need.co.uk/ /scotland championsofchange ation, Find ideas, inform tion at resources and inspira eed.co.uk/ scotland championsofchange/ What s it like to be a Champion? We have never had such a successful fundraiser, it was outstanding. From bake sales and raffles to face painting and competitions the whole school, teachers and parents couldn t help but get involved! We raised 900 and this was most definitely as a result of the initiative, the big build up and the unstoppable eagerness of the children. Jemma Evans, Year 4 Teacher, Penybont Primary School
LAUNCH WITH A BANG! Get your Champions of Change fundraising off to a sparkling start with a Launch to remember from 28 September. Start planning as early as you can and think about how you can get learners, parents and staff on board and excited! Could you have a special Launch Assembly? There are loads of resources online to help you do this. If you re attached to a primary school, why not ask if you can join in with what they re doing? Make it a community event and invite friends and family along too you ll need the support of parents as you fundraise. Everyone should leave the Launch Assembly buzzing about what s to come Find PowerPoints, celebrity videos and more for your Launch at Go online and download the early years resources. How about marking the Launch of Champions of Change with a dress-up day, a party or even your fi rst fundraising activity? Decide on a date for your Launch Event and get planning! Start talking to your learners about BBC Children in Need and why you re going to be raising money. Head online for fi lms and stories you can share, put up posters and broadcast your plans in newsletters and through social media.
Take action and raise money This is the bit where you get to have loads of fun and raise loads of cash. If you re looking for a bit of inspiration, read on BAKE! Dig out those recipe books and develop learners baking prowess! There are loads of ways that baking can bring in the dough Hold a great big bake sale Organise the biggest and best cake sale ever. Why not make it themed? Spotty buns and Pudsey biscuits are sure to get people parting with their cash. Picnic with Pudsey Sell tickets for a giant teddy bear s picnic in Pudsey s honour. Charge people to attend with their favourite teddy and provide baked treats for the human guests. Now, who s going to volunteer to dress up as Pudsey? Enlist the support of any keen bakers amongst your staff and parents. Decide how you re going to raise money through your baking. Share recipes and ideas. How about Pudsey cupcakes, dotty cookies, a spotty sponge or superhero gingerbreads? Promote your event and make sure people know to come to school or nursery with some cash that day. Find posters that you can customise at CHALLENGE! If your learners (and you!) like a challenge then this is the one for you Get active Whether it s toddling, walking, jumping or trike-ing, sporty sponsorship is a great way to raise money and get your little ones active! Give it up What can t children, staff and parents live without? Sweets? TV? Encourage everyone to get sponsored to give something up for a week and donate the money you raise! Treasure hunt Charge parents a small fee for their children to take part in a fun treasure hunt around the building or in the grounds. Even the tiniest of toddlers can take part, depending on age and ability level. Talk as a group about what challenges, games and sports everyone likes doing. How could these be incorporated into a group challenge? Promote your event and encourage others to get involved. Find posters online at If you re running a sponsored event, give out sponsorship forms and ask parents to help their children fi ll them up with sponsors. If learners will need money on the day, be sure to give parents plenty of notice.
! N I A T R E T N E You re bound to have some tiny performers in your midst who are just waiting for the chance to strut their stuff! And then there s the staff! DRESS-UP! Rummage through the dressing-up box and dig out those superhero costumes It s time for you and your learners to not just be a fundraising hero, but to look like one too! Stage a talent show Calling all mini-magicians and budding Beyoncés! A talent show gives everyone a chance to shine in their own unique way. Charge each entrant and let the donations build up along with the talent. Superhero style Celebrate everyone s heroic fundraising efforts with a hero-themed fancy dress day. Charge your heroes for dressing up for the day. Sing your heart out! Organise a concert and invite family and friends to hear their little ones perform, for a small donation of course! How about making it Pudsey-themed, with songs and poems all about bears? Pudsey-fy yourselves Get your paws on our new Pudsey ears, wristbands, bandanas and badges! You can buy them all online at Pudsey s gallery Create paintings, drawings or sculptures inspired by BBC Children in Need then auction them off at a special gallery show for family and friends. Pyjama day Save everyone a job in the morning and let learners come to school in their pyjamas for the day complete with favourite teddy in tow! Decide together on what your entertainment will be. Organise who will do what and help learners to promote your event. Use the posters online or foster home-grown talent and let learners design their own. Decide on your dressing-up theme choose from the ideas here or come up with your own. Great talent is always worth celebrating but your event is also about raising money so be clear about how you ll do this. It could be through entry fees, donations or an auction. Get rehearsing practice makes perfect. Make sure learners and parents know what s going on and what they need to do, including bringing in a donation on the day. Remember the children will be expecting to see you dressed up too!
At the end of your fundraising journey, make time for learners to celebrate what they ve achieved with a Celebration of Champions event. Take time to look back on all the fun activities that have been going on and thank your fundraising heroes. Organise your own Celebration of Champions event or see if you can join in with a primary school. To round the whole thing off, announce how much money you ve raised and celebrate the amazing things you ve done for BBC Children in Need. The Celebration of Champions is all about children having a brilliant time and being proud of all they ve achieved! Use the resources at to help you plan your Celebration of Champions. Give the learners and staff a chance to take to the stage and entertain everyone with singing, dancing, music, jokes and magic. How about holding a Celebration of Champions party to mark BBC Children in Need Appeal Day? Share the good news about how much you ve raised with learners, staff and parents, and say a huge thank you to everyone for taking part and giving. Find loads of ideas and resources for your Celebration of Champions at This is your Champions of Change grand finale. Make it unforgettable. CELEBRATE IN STYLE Find your celebrity thank you videos online
U O Y K N A TH G N I P L E H R FO Hollie the Read more about children you help at eed.co.uk/ scotland championsofchange/ Every penny you give will go towards helping children, just like Hollie Five year old Hollie has a rare illness that means she can t eat normally and is given medicine through tubes for 14 hours a day while she sleeps. The medicine makes her pale, sleepy and achy, but she amazes everyone with her chirpy confidence and determination. Hollie and her mum are regular visitors to their local children s hospice, Robin House, where they re able to relax, have fun together and escape from their everyday worries. Thanks to BBC Children in Need funding for the Children s Hospice Association Scotland, there are always activities going on and Hollie makes the most of everything! Now that Hollie has got a customised buggy with her pumps attached, she will be able to enjoy her first ever firework display, even whilst on her night time treatment. Your fundraising means the Children s Hospice Association can help even more children in Scotland who, like Hollie, are living with illnesses that cannot be cured. 1 l home e is a rea ic sp o h e h lays T or us. It p f e m o h from Hollie in helping ll. t r a p ig ab he fu r life to t to live he ie s mum Amy, Holl 1 0 helps an 11 year old girl who s been bullied make friends at her local youth club. pays for a music therapy session to bring joy to a 6 year old girl with a brain tumour. 1 5 means a 12 year old boy with learning difficulties gets to play and learn at a football and literacy project.
PEOPLE POWER! It s not just the learners who need to work together. Fundraising is most effective and most fun when it s done in a group, so get a support team around you! There are at least four sources of help below, you might think of more: Colleagues bounce around ideas, help each other out, pull together as a team and have a laugh! Parents ask for their support as a sponsor, baker, audience member If you re working with a Bank of Scotland volunteer, make the most of their fundraising advice and fi nancial know-how. The learners be inspired by their energy, enthusiasm and ideas.
