1 The Outer Guard Knights of Columbus # Marine Road Edwardsville, IL Meetings: Third Degree -- 2nd and 4th Mondays at 7:00 p.m. Fourth Degree -- 1st Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Grand Knight Jim Jatcko Phone: DECEMBER 2018 From the Grand Knight Brother Knights, Charity. It s the first pillar of the Knights of Columbus. As individuals, we tend to think of charity in terms of money that we donate to organizations or the time that we give to help those in need. But as we learned when we took our Admissions (1 st ) Degree of our order, charity runs much deeper than that. True Christian charity has more to do with how we act and how we treat others around us. Out of the same mouth comes blessing or curse. Do we see the best in others or do we criticize, judge or condemn them? Do we keep score when comparing our good actions to the actions or inactions of others? I know that for myself, living the virtue of charity well can be difficult, but as Knights of Columbus, that s what each of us is called to do. As we begin the season of Advent, let s prepare ourselves for the birth of our Lord by rededicating ourselves to living as Knights of charity. Let s be more mindful of helping others, speaking well of others, seeing the best in others and being strong examples of what it means to be a Christian and a Knight of Columbus. Vivat Jesus! Jim Jatcko, GK Family of the Month Congratulations to our November Family of the Month: Brother Knight Bryce Renken, his wife Shari and son Blake. The Renken s are active members of St. Boniface Parish, where Bryce serves as an usher. This Fall, Blake took on a beautification project outside our hall for his Eagle Scout Project. Blake organized his family and friends and collectively, they removed dead growth and debris on the west side of the building, poured a footing and leveled the bench dedicated to PGK Dennis Jacober, planted new perennials and provided additional landscaping rock. The work done by Blake s team, along with the power washing work done by our Knights of the Month, has really improved the overall appearance of our hall. Thank you to Blake, Shari and Bryce! Knights of the Month At our November council meeting, we recognized Rich Dustman, Paul Fuller, Bruce Gerstenecker and Jeff Shannon for their efforts in maintaining and improving our council s home. They recently worked on cleaning the exterior of our hall, pressure washing years of built up dirt and mildew. The result dramatically improved the curb appeal of the hall. Thanks for all that you do Brother Knights! Turkey Raffle Winners Scot Ambuel Jan Caban Tony Certa Jerry Kienstra Mike Klopmeier Mike McCalla Steve McClard Gina Trebing

2 Congratulations to 2018 Edwardsville Regional & State Soccer Champions Congratulations to the 2018 Edwardsville Regional and State Soccer Challenge Champions. Pictured: far right State Soccer Chairman Tom West, second from right state champion Nora Baker. Our Newest Knight A Big Thank You After over 37 years of service on the Team 3 Fish Fry kitchen crew, the families of Jim Caulk and Lynn Ripper have decided to end their tenure. Though this is a sad occasion, I want to thank them for the fantastic job that they have done for decades. With that said, we are in need of five or six people to fill the Caulk/Ripper shoes. If you are able to work on the Team 3 kitchen crew, please contact Louis Carnoali at or carnofour@aol.com. The Caulk/Ripper team are willing to train new workers at the fish frys on Dec 14 and Feb 15, which is the last fish fry for this kitchen team. Any and all volunteers would be greatly appreciated and will help continue to make our fish fry one of the best in the Metro East. Louis Carnoali, Fish Fry Co-Chairman Welcome to the newest member of our council, Dave Council! Dave took his 1 st Degree with us on November 12.
