Strange Larry Drake From the desk of your Big Sir It s true--time goes faster as you get older. (It must seem like a rocket sled to some of you!) That s just the way it works. It s for us to enjoy the ride as best we can. And that is what SIR is all about. We are a social club for seniors, mostly retired, and within that structure, pursue various activities--in our case, golf and bowling. Hopefully, in the coming year, we can add an activity or two that will appeal to some of us. Beyond our personal obligations to the branch (attending meetings, paying dues, etc.) we have a duty to leave the branch in good shape for future members. That means keeping the numbers of active members up. In the current environment, given our aging membership and the way younger retirees handle their free time, this is a challenge. But we must make an effort. Towards that end, on April 28, 29 and 30 there is the Haggin Oaks Golf Expo, where we get to share a tent with Branch 49, and talk to people about SIR, and our branch in particular. Sometimes this gets a new member or two, sometimes not. But it s fun!! We need some

3 volunteers to man the booth for a few hours on one or more of those days. So contact Little Sir Ken Hill to let him know when you can help out. He ll be setting up the schedule. Hopefully we can try some other methods to gain new members, and we ll be discussing those things in the coming weeks and months. Our meetings start as usual at 11:30, but the lunch will be on 15 minutes or so later than it has been, to allow us to conduct Branch business and listen to the speakers in a more leisurely manner. Some of our members attend only for the social aspects, for the camaraderie and talk, and taking a few extra minutes will let us all enjoy our table companions more. Here's hoping for a safe, healthy and prosperous 2017 for all of us. As the incoming Little Sir, my primary responsibility is procuring guest speakers for our luncheon meetings. For our first meeting of 2017, I was fortunate to secure a popular and highly sought after speaker. He has spoken at several other Sacramento Area SIRs Branches and has consistently received excellent reviews. His name is Steve Beck. He is with California Parks and Recreation, Sutter's Fort. He is the Lead Historian and Educator at that facility. Steve will discuss early California history, with an emphasis on the Sacramento area and Sutter's Fort. I look forward with pleasure to my tenure as Little Sir, and getting to know more of our Branch 93 members. Ken Hill CARSON VALLEY 2017 June 4, 5, 6 are the dates to ink onto your calendars for the 2017 high desert shootout! After feverish and sometimes desperate negotiations, your Carson Committee has secured the golf courses of Genoa--not just the Resort Course-- but the Lakes Course as well!! The Lakes hasn t been played in many years. Some said it was too tough for old guys. Others said it was too expensive. Some newer members thought members were lying when they said they d ever played it. But here it is, in the package, and for only $5 more than last year. Sunday, Monday, Tuesday at the Gold Dust West Casino with checkout Wednesday morning. Open bar and hor s doeurves on Sunday night. Monday morning free breakfast, then golf, and a night of gambling and dinner on your own. Tuesday, breakfast and golf, bowling for free too,
