6 TIME for CHANGE The Problem At Changing Faces we know that looking and feeling different in a society where appearance is valued very highly can be extremely difficult particularly for young people who are under such pressure to look perfect. There are 86,000 children of school age in the UK today with a disfigurement. Our research shows that almost half of young people with visible differences are bullied about their appearance at school. Children who look different face many difficult challenges and at Changing Faces we believe that now is the time for change. Face Equality Day 2018: The Future of Face Equality We will launch our year of action for children and young people on Face Equality Day May 23rd 2018 our very first specifically for young people. Face Equality Day is the key focus point across the UK for everyone working with people with a visible difference. It is the UK s only campaign to ensure that everyone with a visible difference is treated fairly and equally. We Need Your Help Changing Faces needs your help to achieve all this for children and young people. We can t do it alone Marcus (aged 14) experienced bullying at school at primary school They would call me names like scar face, two-face and Joker. I was really upset and although I would try and ignore them it was really hard. Left, Marcus with WONDER actor Jacob Tremblay

11 BUTTERFLY BAKE SALE Hold a Butterfly Bake Sale fundraiser on Face Equality Day. Here is an easy recipe you can use to make some delicious butterfly cakes. Ingredients For the buns: 100g (4oz) caster sugar 100g (4oz) butter, softened 2 large eggs 100g (4oz) self-raising flour ½ tsp baking powder 15ml (1tbsp) milk For the buttercream: 50g (2oz) butter, softened 75g (3oz) icing sugar 2tbsp strawberry jam Icing sugar, for dusting Method Preheat the oven to 190C, gas 5. Line a muffin tray with 10 paper muffin cases. Place the sugar, butter, eggs, flour, baking powder and milk in a large bowl and mix with an electric whisk until pale and creamy. Divide the mixture between the muffin cases and bake for mins until risen, golden and firm to the touch. Transfer to a cooling rack. Leave to cool. To make the buttercream, place the butter in a bowl and sift over the icing sugar. Beat until smooth. Slice the tops off each cake and fill the cavities with a little buttercream and jam. Cut each sliced top in half and arrange on top of the filling to resemble butterfly wings. Dust lightly with icing sugar. Tip: You can also use sweeties or strawberries cut into quarters as butterfly wings. You could try making cookies with a butterfly cookie cutter.
