1 New Freedom Lions Club Newsletter We Serve Chartered 1933 Dist. 14C, Zone 4-B President, Lion Kerry McKnight February, 2018 ~ Roar from the President ~ Fellow New Freedom Lions- If it isn t one thing, it s another. While our building committee continues researching the options on what s to be done about the pavilion at the carnival grounds, we get slammed by the sudden news our long time amusement rides company had pulled out 6 months before the 2018 carnival. As Lions, we weathered that storm, and it appears we emerged from the other side better than ever with a new and larger rides concessionaire. Sometimes, when handled properly, issues can be a blessing in disguise. Our club has endured through nearly 85 years. New Freedom Lions Club was chartered during the mist of the great depression, served our community, and our country, during wartime. These speed bumps with the carnival are minor compared with history. I am aware of several local service organizations that disbanded and walked away from their pledge to SERVE, rather than deal with their issues.

2 - Roar - cont. Finally, I thank all those NFLC members who attended Shrewsbury Area Centennial Lions Club s charter night dinner. There was a large turnout to hear Keynote Speaker PDG Tom Gregg. The club is motivated and is fortunate to begin their service with excellent leadership. I think they have a bright future ahead to serve and support the Shrewsbury community. Of course, they have an outstanding example to follow in your New Freedom Lions Club. President Kerry PDG Voni B. Grimes It is with great sadness that we report the passing of PDG Voni B. Grimes, a member of the York White Rose Lions Club, on Friday, January 26, 2018, at the age of 95. PDG Voni served as District Governor for District 14-C during Lions year He joined Lions Club in 1984 and was previously a member of the Springettsbury Lions Club and the East York Lions Club. from DG Dennis Cope

9 Lion Tracks January 2nd Thanks goes out to Lion Tom Foley for his talk on diabetes. Here are the two books that he referenced during his speech. Also mentioned was a Smart Phone application called Carbs and Cals. He said: It helps count/track up to 5 nutrients, and the data is downloadable and shareable to other devices or interested parties. January 16th Scout Benjamin Knepper presented his eagle scout project at Ernst Park by renovating sign boards, benches and remark the existing trails. A presentation on suicide prevention was given by survivor of suicide Shelly Thompson whose son Ryan completed suicide in Shelly is a member of the York County Suicide Prevention Coalition. Shelly told her story of having no indication of the problems her son was going through prior to his death. She asked our members not to ignore those people who appear to be distressed because a kind word can go a long way to lifting someones spirits to survive another day. from Lion Steve G. minutes

10 Lion Tracks January 20th Shrewsbury Area Centennial Lions Club Charter Night Celebration It was a great turnout for the celebration of District 14-C s new Lions Club, Shrewsbury Area Centennial Lions Club. Lion Brian Sweitzer is their first President. They are starting out with 20 members. 11 Dutch Says Thank you goes out to all my Lion's and Lioness's for sending us your snow. So far in January we have had 8 inches of snow. (I love it ). Lion/Lioness Gail on the other hand was not so happy about all the snow we got. Steve took us to a Lion's club meeting on January 11,2018. We were very happy to see all that they are doing to help the community. They have something going on every month. Reminds me of New Freedom's agenda. We are all going to join even Steve. Steve was surprised at what Lion's do. He had never heard anything about Lion's before that meeting. Well Lion/Lioness Gail is calling me. It must be time for another Doctors appointment. I will keep you up on what going on with us in Delaware.
