Exhibitors will nominat and rank thr othr xhibitors for th Hrdsman Award. Th ballots will b turnd in to th Swin Suprintndnt's Offic by a dsignatd tim and th Suprintndnt will tally th rsults. Tis will b brokn by a committ st up by th Suprintndnt. Th Suprintndnt will hav vto powr and if this powr is xrcisd, a committ st up by th Suprintndnt will slct th Swin Hrdsman Award winnr. During th first sssion, Wdnsday, August 8, at 5:00 p.m., all barrow xhibitors will compt togthr. During th scond sssion Sunday, August 12 at 5:00 p.m., th Brkshir, Chstr Whit, Hrford, Poland, Spots and Othr Purbrds xhibitors will compt togthr. During th third sssion Thursday, August 16 at 5:00 p.m., Duroc, Hampshir, Yorkshir, Gilt and Boar xhibitors will compt togthr. Th showmanship classs will b dividd as follows: for 4-H, thr will b classs for ths ag groups: 8-9; 10-11; 12-13; 14 and up; and for FFA thr will b classs for ths ag groups: 16 and undr and 17 and up. For 4-H your ag is dtrmind as of January 1 and for FFA your ag is th ag of th individual on th day of showing. Onc an xhibitor has won an ag group, thy may not compt again until thy rach th nxt ag group. Thr will b a sign-up sht that junior xhibitors must sign at chck-in to b in th showmanship classs. RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. All xhibitors must comply with th gnral ruls and rgulations and animal halth rquirmnts for xhibition in th front of this prmium book. All junior and opn barrow xhibitors will b rquird to complt th Pork Quality Assuranc III program as pr 2/4/2006 guidlins and ach xhibitor will b rquird to show thir PQA III card. Th xhibitor's nam must b on th card. Each xhibitor is rquird to snd a photocopy of thir PQA III card along with thir ntris. 5. All opn show brding animals must b th farrowd proprty of th xhibitor and shall so appar on th rcords of th rspctiv brd associations. Exhibitor must hav rgistration crtificats on all individual brding animals and purbrd barrows at th Fair. EXCEP- TION: Opn Junior xhibitors (ags 21 and undr) will b allowd to xhibit purchasd gilts and barrows as long as thy wr purchasd at last 90 days prior to th show. 6. Th ag limits for boars and gilts is Dcmbr 1, 2017 to March 31, 2018 and barrows ar January 1 to March 31, and Gilts will b dividd qually by wight. Classs will b dtrmind aftr pigs arriv on th grounds. Thr classs will b conductd if 40 had or lss ar ntrd by sx and brd. Four classs will b conductd if 41 to 79 had ar ntrd by sx and brd. Whn thr ar 80 or mor had by sx and brd th Suprintndnt will dtrmin th class braks. (Gilts may not b shown in any barrow classs.) Barrow wight limits will b 230 to 300 pounds. In th opn on-foot barrow show th crossbrds will b shown in thr (3) divisions. Purbrd barrows will b rquird to show rgistration crtificats. 7. All brding stock, including purbrd and crossbrd barrows, boars and gilts, will b rquird to hav rcognizabl ar notchs in both ars, and farrowing dat. No scabby or frsh ar notchs will b accptd. (Brd and carcass barrows ar rquird to pr-ntr with brding swin.) 8. Barrows will b allowd to wigh on tim only. All barrows must wigh at last 230 pounds, with a maximum wight of 300 pounds. NEW 9. Exhibitors may ntr 10 boars and 10 gilts pr brd, 10 crossbrd gilts, 10 crossbrd boars, and a total of 10 barrows; with prmiums bing paid on all that plac in th classs. Exhibitors may ntr 4 barrows pr xhibitor in th opn Growth & Quality barrow show. 4-H and FFA mmbrs may hav a total of 10 barrows in thir rspctiv 4-H or FFA show, but thy may only show 4 in th opn Quality & Growth barrow show. Dtrmination of carcass pigs for junior xhibitors must b don by th tim of th junior wigh in. Substitution will b allowd as follows: for purbrd brding stock, an animal for an animal within th brd; a purbrd boar for a purbrd boar within th brd; a purbrd gilt for a purbrd gilt within th brd; and for barrows, a barrow for a barrow. All barrows will b scannd for 10 th rib fat and loin muscl using ultrasound at tim of wigh-in by a crtifid tchnician in coopration with th Univrsity of Missouri and th Missouri Dpartmnt of Agricultur. 17. All barrows will b shown on Thursday, August 9, at 5:00 p.m. Classs will b dividd using adjustd starting wight rgardlss of brd origin or youth organization. Each barrow will rciv a liv scor. 18. Du to procssing facility availability, barrows will b sortd by lan gain pr day, ultrasound (BF, LEA) and liv placing prior to pork quality valuation. Th top ranking barrows (no gratr than 50 (fifty) had will b valuatd for pork quality) and spacs will b rsrvd to nsur brd rprsntation. Barrows will b loadd for procssing immdiatly following th liv show. Barrows will b procssd at th Univrsity of Missouri Mat Laboratory, Columbia, MO.
