Upon succssful compltion of th mastr s xamination th dgr Mastr of Arts ( M.A. ) is awardd. 2 Th acadmic titl may also b usd with th nam of th univrsity (TUM). 35 Commncmnt of Studis, Standard Duration of Study, ECTS () Th mastr s program in Scinc and Tchnology Studis (STS) at th Tchnical Univrsity of Munich commncs, as a rul, in th wintr smstr. Th numbr of classs in rquird, rquird lctiv (optional: lctiv) subjcts ndd to obtain th mastr s dgr is 90 crdits (30 wkly hours pr smstr) sprad ovr thr smstrs. 2 In addition, a maximum of 30 crdits/six months is schduld for th compltion of th mastr s thsis pursuant to Th numbr of courswork units and xaminations in rquird and rquird lctiv subjcts to b compltd in th Scinc and Tchnology Studis (STS) mastr s program according to Appndix is a minimum of 20 crdits. 4 Th standard duration of study for th mastr s program will b a total of four smstrs. 36 Eligibility Rquirmnts () () Eligibility for th mastr s program in Scinc and Tchnology Studis (STS) is dmonstratd by. a qualifid bachlor s dgr obtaind aftr a program of at last six smstrs from a domstic or forign institution of highr ducation or at last an quivalnt dgr in th following dgr programs a) sociology, thnology, history, philosophy, political scinc, communications or mdia studis, psychology b) MINT subjcts (mathmatics, information tchnology, natural scincs, and tchnology) c) lif scincs and mdicin as wll as a vrification of th succssful participation in a modul (lctur, sminar, xrcis modul) in th mthods and thoris of social scinc with in th amount of 8 Crdits, 2. an adquat knowldg of th English languag; studnts whos nativ languag or languag of instruction is not English must dmonstrat proficincy through an acknowldgd languag tst such as Tst of English as a Forign Languag (TOEFL) (with at last 88 points), Intrnational English Languag Tsting Systm (IELTS) (with at last 6,5 points) or Cambridg Main Suit of English Examinations ; or any of th languag tsts availabl on th wb pag of th Admissions and Enrollmnt Offic of th Tchnical Univrsity of Munich, all of which ar accptd by th Acadmic Affairs Commission; altrnativly adquat languag skills may b provn through a good grad in English (corrsponding to at last 0 out of 5 points) awardd by a domstic highr ducation ntranc qualification. (3) For Aptitud Assssmnt in accordanc with subsction 2, rquird moduls of th rlvant bachlor's program at TUM namd in subsction, no. or an quivalnt institution of highr ducation, will b considrd. If studnts do not mt all crdit rquirmnts, th Aptitud Assssmnt Commission can, in accordanc with Appndix 2, no. 3, rquir studnts to complt additional fundamntals xams pursuant to subsction to vrify thir qualification as stipulatd in Appndix 2, no Th candidat must b informd throf aftr rviw of th documntation during th first stag of th Aptitud Assssmnt. (4) Th comparability of programs, th subjct-spcific aptitud as wll as th quivalnc of dgrs acquird from forign institutions will b dcidd upon by th Examination Board in complianc with Art. 63 of th Bayrischs Hochschulgstz [Bavarian Highr Education Act]. 37 Modular Structur, Modul Examination, Courss, Filds of Study, Languag of Instruction () Gnral provisions concrning moduls and courss ar st forth in 6 and 8 of th APSO. 2 For any changs to th stipulatd modul provisions 2 (8) of th APSO shall apply. (2) Th curriculum listing th rquird and lctiv moduls is includd in Appndix. Studnts who hav not vrifid thir knowldg of Grman in th application procss will b conditionally admittd with th stipulation that thy complt at last on modul, in which thy acquir intgrativ knowldg of Grman. Th offr will b announcd by th Examination Board accordingly. Optional compltd xtracurricular courss,.g. Grman courss offrd by th languag cntr, will also b rcognizd. (3) Within th fram of masurs stipulatd in Appndix, studnts of th mastr s program STS can draw up an individual plan of studis. 2 Optionally, two of th following aras of concntration may b slctd:. Philosophy of scinc and tchnology. 2. History of scinc and tchnology. 3 An ara of concntration is dmd compltd, whn 30 crdits hav bn vrifid in th mastr s thsis modul, as wll as at last 5 crdits in th following moduls rlvant to th chosn ara of concntration: STS-Mint and/or Filds of practic and/or Cor Topics moduls up to a maximum of 0 crdits and/or Advancd Topics moduls up to a maximum of 0 crdits 4 Studnts must complt 45 to 60 crdits of courswork and xamination rquirmnts in th chosn ara of concntration. 5 Towards th nd of th first smstr, togthr with a mntor, studnts nd to stablish a plan of studis for th compltion of rquirmnts in th ara of concntration. 6 Each mmbr of th Dpartmnt or School who is authorizd to administr xaminations at TUM pursuant to th Hochschulprüfrvrordnung [act govrning xaminrs at institutions of highr ducation] may b assignd as mntor.

(4) Gnrally, th languag of instruction in th mastr s program in Scinc and Tchnology Studis (STS) is English. 38 Examination Dadlins, Progrss Monitoring, Failur to Mt Dadlins Examination dadlins, progrss monitoring, and failur to mt dadlins ar govrnd by 0 of th APSO. 39 Examination Board Pursuant to 29 of th APSO th board rsponsibl for all dcisions concrning xamination mattrs shall b th Mastr s Examination Board for th mastr s program in Scinc and Tchnology (STS). 40 Rcognition of Priods of Study, Courswork, and Examination Rsults Th rcognition of priods of study, courswork and xamination rsults is govrnd by th provisions of 6 of th APSO. 4 Continuous Assssmnt Procdur, Typs of Assssmnt () In addition to writtn xaminations (Klausurn) and oral xaminations, typs of assssmnt pursuant to 2 and 3 of th APSO includ, in particular,, prsntations, larning portfolios, rsarch paprs and parcours xaminations. a) A Klausur is a suprvisd writtn xamination. In ths writtn xaminations, studnts ar xpctd to dmonstrat, within a limitd amount of tim and using prdfind mthods and rsourcs, thir ability to idntify problms, find solution stratgis and, if rquird, implmnt thm. 2 Th duration of Klausurn is providd for in 2 (7) of th APSO. b) Projct work is dsignd to rach, in svral phass (initiation, problm dfinition, rol assignmnt, ida gnration, critria dvlopmnt, dcision, implmntation, prsntation, writtn valuation), th dfind objctiv of a projct assignmnt within a givn priod of tim and using suitabl instrumnts. 2 In addition, may includ a prsntation in ordr to assss a studnt s communication comptncy in prsnting scholarly work to an audinc. 3 Th spcific componnts of ach assignmnt and th rlatd comptncis to b assssd ar dlinatd in th modul dscription. 4 Projct work may includ group work. 5 Studnts ar xpctd to dmonstrat that thy ar abl to complt th tasks in a tam nvironmnt. 6 A studnt s contribution to group work which is to b

5 Program-spcific Acadmic and Examination Rgulations STS Sit 5 assssd as a componnt of an xamination must b clarly idntifiabl and gradabl. 7 This also applis to ach individual s contribution to th group rsult. c) A rsarch papr is a writtn assignmnt in which studnts work indpndntly on solving complx scholarly or scholarly/application-orintd problms, using th scintific mthods of th rlatd disciplin. 2 Studnts ar xpctd to dmonstrat that thy ar abl to solv problms corrsponding to th larning rsults of th modul in qustion in complianc with th guidlins for scholarly work from analysis and concption to implmntation. 3 Rsarch paprs, diffring in thir rquirmnt standards, may tak th form of a concptual framwork/thory papr [Thsnpapir], abstract, ssay, trm papr, sminar papr, tc. 4 Th rsarch papr may b complmntd by a prsntation or a colloquium for th purpos of assssing th studnt s communication comptncy in prsnting scholarly work to an audinc. 5 Spcific dtails on ach rsarch papr and th rlatd comptncis to b assssd ar st out in th modul dscription. d) A prsntation is a systmatic and structurd oral prformanc supportd by suitabl audiovisual quipmnt (such as bamr, slids, postrs, vidos) for th purpos of dmonstrating and summarizing spcific issus or rsults and paring complx problms down to thir ssntial cor. 2 For th prsntation, th studnt is xpctd to dmonstrat that h or sh is capabl of prparing a crtain topic within a givn tim fram in such a way as to prsnt or rport it in a clar and comprhnsibl mannr to an audinc. 3 In addition, th studnt is xpctd to dmonstrat that h or sh is abl to rspond comptntly to any qustions, suggstions or discussions brought by th audinc and rlating to his or hr subjct ara. 4 Th prsntation may b complmntd by a brif writtn prcis. 5 Th prsntation may b prpard ithr individually or in groups. 6 A studnt s contribution to group work which is to b assssd as a componnt of an xamination must b clarly idntifiabl and gradabl. 7 This also applis to ach individual s contribution to th group rsult. ) An oral xamination is a timd, gradd discussion on rlvant topics and spcific qustions to b answrd. 2 In oral xaminations studnts ar xpctd to dmonstrat that thy hav rachd th qualification objctivs laid out in th modul dscriptions, undrstood th cntral concpts of th subjct mattrs covrd by th xam, and ar abl to apply thm to spcific problms. 3 Th oral xamination will b hld ithr as an individual or group xamination. 4 Th duration of th xamination is providd for in 3 (2) of th APSO. f) A larning portfolio is a collction of writtn matrials compild by th studnt according to prdfind critria that xhibits th studnt s progrss and achivmnts in dfind contnt aras at a givn tim. 2 Studnts ar rquird to xplain according to which critria thy hav chosn th matrials and thir rlvanc for thir larning progrss and th achivmnt of th qualification objctivs. 3 With th larning portfolio, studnts ar xpctd to dmonstrat that thy hav takn activ rsponsibility for thir larning procss and hav rachd th qualification objctivs st out in th modul dscription. 4 Dpnding on th modul dscription, typs of indpndnt study assssmnt in a larning portfolio may includ, in particular, application-orintd assignmnts, wb pags, wblogs, bibliographis, analyss, concptual framwork/thory paprs, as wll as th graphic rprsntation of facts or problms. 5 Th spcific componnts of ach larning portfolio and th rlatd comptncis to b assssd ar st out in th modul dscription. g) Th parcours xamination is mad up of svral componnts. 2 Unlik a modul xamination componnt, parcours xam componnts ar administrd in squnc and compltd in a spcific tim fram and location. 3 Parcours componnts ntail various typs of xamination, which togthr valuat th comptncy profil of th modul as a whol. 4 Possibl typs of xamination in parcours componnts includ thos listd in a) through f). 5 Th total duration of th parcours xamination with all its componnts is indicatd in th modul catalogu; typ and duration of individual componnts is spcifid in th modul dscription.

If admission to individual moduls is contingnt upon succssful compltion of crtain othr moduls this will b spcifid in Appndix. Rgistration rquirmnts for rquird and lctiv modul xaminations ar stipulatd in 5 () of th APSO. 2 Th rgistration rquirmnts for rpat xaminations for faild rquird and rquird lctiv moduls ar stipulatd in 5 (2) of th APSO. Th modul xaminations ar listd in Appndix. 2 Studnts must succssfully complt 60 crdits of rquird moduls and at last 30 crdits of lctiv moduls. 3 Th slction of moduls must comply with 8 (2) of th APSO. 44 Rpat Examinations, Faild Examinations () Th rptition of xaminations is govrnd by 24 of th APSO. 7 Program-spcific Acadmic and Examination Rgulations STS Sit 7 46 Mastr s Thsis () As part of th mastr s xamination, ach studnt must writ a mastr s thsis pursuant to 8 of th APSO. 2 Th mastr s thsis topic may b dtrmind/th mastr s thsis may b suprvisd by ach xprt xaminr at TUM participating in th STS program (Thmnstllr). 3 Exprt xaminrs as stipulatd in sntnc 2 ar appointd by th Examination Board. Work on th mastr s thsis should commnc aftr succssful compltion of all modul xaminations. 2 Upon rqust studnts may b grantd arly admission to commnc th mastr s thsis if thy rachd 60 crdits. (3) Th priod of tim btwn topic dtrmination and submission of th compltd mastr s thsis must not xcd 6 months. 2 Th mastr s thsis is considrd prsntd and not passd if th studnt fails to submit it on tim without valid rasons as spcifid in 0 (7) of th APSO. (4) Th mastr s thsis may b writtn in ithr th Grman or th English languag. 2 Th compltion of th mastr s thsis consists of a writtn composition and a lctur on its contnt to tak plac during th cours of study. 3 Th lctur is to tak plac whil th thsis is in prparation. Th lctur dos not affct th grading. (5) If th mastr s thsis was not gradd with at last sufficint (4.0), it may b rpatd onc with a nw topic. 2 Studnts must rnw thir application for admission within six wks from rcipt of th grad. 47 Passing and Assssmnt of th Mastr s Examination () Th mastr s xamination is dmd passd whn all xaminations rquird for th mastr s xamination pursuant to 43 () hav bn passd and a plus crdits account of at last 20 crdits has bn achivd. Th aptitud tst is administrd by a commission that, as a rul, consists of th dan for acadmic affairs in charg of th STS mastr s program, at last two mmbrs of th profssorial faculty and at last on rsarch associat (wissnschaftlichr Mitarbitr). 2 At last half of th commission mmbrs must b mmbrs of th profssorial faculty. 3 A rprsntativ of th studnt body will b a part of th commission, in an advisory capacity. 3.2 Th mmbrs of th commission ar appointd by th faculty council (Fakultätsrat) in consultation with th dan of studis. At last on mmbr of th profssorial faculty is appointd as dputy mmbr of th commission. 2 As a rul, th commission is chaird by th dan of studis. 3 Procdural rgulations will b in accordanc with Art. 4 of th BayHSchG as last amndd. 4. Admission to th Aptitud Assssmnt Procss 4. Admission to th aptitud assssmnt procss rquirs that all documntation spcifid in no. 2.3 has bn submittd in a timly and complt fashion. 4.2 Applicants who hav fulfilld th rquirmnts will b assssd according to no Applicants who ar not admittd will rciv a notification spcifying th rasons and providing information on lgal rmdis. 5. Th Aptitud Assssmnt Procss 5. Th commission will assss, on th basis of th writtn application documnts rquird undr no. 2.3, whthr or not an applicant is suitabl for a program pursuant to no. Final grad Th grad of th qualification rcordd in th first univrsity dgr program will b usd to assss th skills and knowldg statd in nos.. and.2. ²Th applicant will b awardd on point for ach tnth that th avrag calculatd from xaminations in th amount of 90 crdits, or, in cas of programs not subjct to th "Europan Crdit Transfr and Accumulation Systm" (ECTS), th avrag calculatd from 50% of th xaminations rquird for th first dgr, is bttr than Th maximum numbr of points is Ngativ points will not b awardd. 5 If th candidat has submittd a dgr crtificat containing mor than 20 crdits with th application, th assssmnt will b mad on th basis of th bst gradd moduls in th amount of 90 crdits or, as th cas may b, 50% of th xamination rsults rquird for th first dgr. 6 Th applicant nds to submit a list of th rsults togthr with th application and confirm thir accuracy in writing. 7 Th ovrall grad avrag is calculatd as a wightd grad avrag. 8 Th grad wights of th individual moduls corrspond to th crdits assignd to ach modul Lttr of motivation Th applicant s writtn statmnt of purpos will b valuatd by two committ mmbrs and gradd on a scal of 0 5 points. 2Th motivation lttr will b assssd using th following critria:. ability to apply ruls of English grammar and splling, 2. ability to phras th rason for thir application in a mattr-of-fact yt appaling way; 3. ability to rflct on th aras of ovrlap btwn thir own comptncis and rlvant qustions at th intrsction of th nginring, natural, social and human scincs, to ffctivly structur thos rflctions, and to dscrib th rlationship btwn thir prsonal intrsts and th contnt of th dgr program in a wll-structurd mannr, 4. ability to convincingly prov his or hr spcial aptitud and motivation for th mastr's program by giving argumnts and maningful xampls, such as vocational training, practica, stays abroad (cf. No ) spcifically rlatd to program contnt. 5. ability to linguistically mphasiz important points of thir rasoning in an appropriat way.

Prsonal imprssion (aftr th intrviw) Applicants will b valuatd, for xampl, on thir ability to convincingly support a thsis using argumnts and maningful xampls, as wll as appropriatly rspond to intrviw qustions. 4 Th abov topics may covr th documntation submittd pursuant to Any subjctspcific acadmic knowldg that is to b taught in th STS mastr s program will not affct th dcision. 6 With th applicant s approval, a rprsntativ of th studnt body may sit in on th intrviw Th aptitud assssmnt intrviw will b conductd by at last two mmbrs of th commission. 2 Each mmbr will grad ach of th fiv intrviw topics on a scal from 0 to 20, 0 bing th worst and 20 bing th bst possibl rsult. 3 Th points awardd by ach mmbr will b calculatd as th arithmtic mans of th fiv qually-wightd topics. 4 Th points total of th assssmnt intrviw is calculatd as th arithmtic mans of th individual mmbr s assssmnts. 5 Dcimal placs must b roundd up. 5.2 Th applicant s points total will b th sum of th points arnd in (intrviw 0-20) and 5.. (final grad: 0-30) and 5. 2 (Lttr of motivation 0-5 points). 2 Applicants with 35 or mor points will b dmd suitabl. 3 In thos cass whr it is dtrmind that only som subjctspcific rquirmnts for th mastr s program ar missing from undrgraduat studis, th aptitud assssmnt commission may rquir that applicants complt fundamntals xams amounting to a maximum of 30 crdits. 4 Ths fundamntals xams must b succssfully compltd in th first yar of study. 5 Faild fundamntals xams may b rpatd only onc and at th nxt xamination dat. 6 Th Examination Board may mak th admission to individual modul xaminations dpndnt on th succssful compltion of th fundamntals xam. 5.3 Th applicant will b notifid of th rsult of th aptitud tst dtrmind by th commission in writing 2 Th notic must b signd by th TUM Board of Managmnt. 3 Signatory powr may b dlgatd. 4 A rjction notic must spcify th rasons for th rjction and provid information on lgal rmdis.

Rcord Th aptitud assssmnt procss must b documntd, including th dat, duration and location of th assssmnt, th nams of th commission mmbrs, th applicant s nam, and th dcision of th mmbrs of th commission as wll as th complt rsults. 2 This rcord must contain th ssntial rasons for th dcision and th topics discussd at th intrviw hld with th applicants; ths rasons and topics may b rcordd in not form. 7. Rptition Applicants who hav faild th aptitud tst for th STS mastr s program may rgistr for on rptition of th Aptitud Assssmnt Tst.
