NAME Th official nam for this organization shall b th Studnt Profssionalism and Ethics Association in Dntistry. This organization will us th nam or its acronym, WVU School of Dntistry SPEA, in all publicity matrials and corrspondnc. ARTICLE 11. MISSION AND OBTECTIVES Th Studnt Profssionalism and Ethics Association in Dntistry is a national, studnt drivn association that was stablishd to promot and support a studnt's liflong commitmnt to thical bhavior in ordr to bnfit th patints thy srv and furthr th dntal profssion. Th objctivs of th Association ar: o Act as a support systm for studnts in strngthning thir prsonal and profssional thics valus by: = Providing a rsourc for thics ducation and dvlopmnt. Fostring a non-punitiv, opn-forum nvironmnt for thics communication = Promoting awarnss of thics standards and rlatd issus within dntistry o Collaborating with ladrship of th dntal profssion to ffctivly advocat for our mmbrs ARTICLE 1II.MEMBERSHIP All currntly nrolld dntal studnts ar ligibl to b full, voting mmbrs and hold ladrship positions. All othr dntal hygin, post-doctoral, advancd standing program for intrnational dntists, and spcialty program studnts as wll as school staff, faculty, alumni, and alumna ar ligibl to b non-voting, affiliat mmbrs. All mmbrs ar rquird to dmonstrat support for th mission and objctivs of this organization. Mmbrship dcisions will not discriminat on th basis of ag, rac, rligion or crd, national origin, thnicity, gndr, disability, or sxual orintation. ARTICLE IV. 2 ARTICLE V. AFFILIATIONS This organization is a rcognizd studnt organization at WVU School of Dntistry, but is not part of th Univrsity itslf. In all corrspondnc and businss transactions, it may rfr to itslf as an organization at WVU School of Dntistry, but not as part of WVU School of Dntistry itslf. SPEA accpts full financial and production rsponsibility for all activitis it sponsors. SPEA agrs to abid by all prtinnt WVU School of Dntistry policis and rgulations. Whr WVU School of Dntistry policis and rgulations and thos of SPEA diffr, th policis and rgulations of WVU School of Dntistry will tak prcdnc. This organization rcognizs and undrstands that th Univrsity assums no lgal liability for th actions of th organization, and that th Univrsity is not providing blankt indmnification insuranc covrag for any activitis of th organization, unlss thos activitis xprssly bnfit and furthr th goals of th Univrsity, and hav rcivd prior rviw, approval, and consnt of Campus Activitis, Risk Managmnt, and/or Gnral Counsl. This local chaptr rcognizs that th national organization, th Studnt Profssionalism and Ethics Association (SPEA), can assum no lgal liability for th actions of th local chaptr and that th national organization is not providing blankt indmnification insuranc covrag for any activitis of th organization, unlss thos activitis ar xprssly and spcifically sponsord by th national ladrship, which must includ formal writtn authorization from SPEA's National Excutiv Board. ARTICLE VI. FACULTY/STAFF ADVISOR As a rcognizd studnt organization at WVU School of Dntistry, SPEA is rquird to hav an official advisor from th WVU School of Dntistry faculty and/or staff. Othr prsons may srv as spcial advisors as ndd. ARTICLE VII. BY-LAWS AND AMENDMENTS This constitution should b in accordanc with, and is subjct to, th official national organization by-laws. Both th by-laws and constitution may b amndd by a two-thirds vot of th SPEA mmbrs hip.

PURPOSE Th purpos of this organization is to incras th ovrall lvl of thics and profssionalism at WVU School of Dntistry. By uniting th community of studnts, faculty and staff of WVU School of Dntistry, SPEA will promot liflong thought and action in th arna of dntal thics. Through various programs, activitis and associations, SPEA aims to fostr an nvironmnt whr thical and profssional bhavior issus can b addrssd in an opn, unbiasd forum. SPEA aims to furthr th thics ducation of vry studnt at WVU School of Dntistry and hlp achiv th dvlopmnt of thical and profssional bhavior in th ducational stting that will accompany th studnts throughout thir profssional carrs. SPEA also aims to form a studnt-cntrd committ to mdiat and rsolv concrns rlativ to profssional bhavior. B. MEMBERSHIP An individual will b considrd an activ mmbr in good standing by mting th Chaptr's standard of attndanc and by signing th Chaptr Chartr in pldg of support for th SPEA Mission and its idals. In ordr to rtain activ mmbr in good standing status, attndanc of at last on mting pr smstrltrimstr is rquird. All mmbrs ar ligibl to attnd all gnral mtings and vnts of this organization. If a f is chargd to attnd a particular vnt, th mmbrship may stablish a f scal for mmbrs and othr attnds as appropriat. C. DUTIES OF OFFICERS Th Prsidnt will chair all mtings of SPEA and will call spcial mtings as ndd. Th Prsidnt will b a mmbr of th xcutiv board. Th Vic Prsidnt will chair all mtings of SPEA in th absnc of th Prsidnt, will srv as th Local Chaptr Liaison. Th Vic Prsidnt will b a mmbr of th xcutiv board. Th Immdiat Past Prsidnt will srv as advisor to th Board and Excutiv Committ. Sh/h will guid th Prsidnt and othr officrs in fulfilling thir dutis and hlp thm whil transitioning into thir rspctiv rols. Th Immdiat Past Prsidnt will b a mmbr of th Excutiv Committ and will srv as th liaison to th local Sction of th Amrican Collg of Dntists. Th ScrtaryITrasurr will tak, rcord, and fil mting minuts and attndanc and will approv all official corrspondnc for th organization. Th ScrtaryITrasurr will b rsponsibl for rcruitmnt initiativs and maintnanc of a currnt mmbrship databas. Th ScrtaryITrasurr will b a mmbr of th xcutiv board. 3

REQUIREMENTS FOR RUNNING FOR AND HOLDING OFFICE All officrs and candidats for offic must b currntly nrolld WVU School of Dntistry studnts in good acadmic standing, i.. a studnt who has mt all Acadmic/Profssional Prformanc Standards and no pnaltis/sanctions ar pnding, and with no history of thics sanctions. E. NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS a Nominations may b submittd to th Prsidnt at th lction mting for inclusion on th ballot. Additionally, writ-in nominations will b accptd during th mting itslf if givn to th Prsidnt anytim bfor th last call, which immdiatly prcds chaptr lctions. Any mmbrs may nominat any othr mmbr, including him or hrslf. Elctions will b hld at th first gnral SPEA mting of th spring smstr. A simpl majority vot of voting mmbrs prsnt (quorum mt) at that mting will b sufficint to lct an officr. If thr ar mor than two candidats and no candidat rcivs a majority, thr will b a run-off vot btwn th top two vot rcipints in th gnral mting. F. REMOVAL FROM OFFICE Officrs may b rmovd from offic for failur to prform dutis, violation of th mmbrship claus, failur to rmain in good acadmic standing as dfind abov, or if sanctiond for an thics violation. Officrs to b votd upon in this rgard will b notifid of th intntion to do so in writing or by lctronic mans at last on wk prior to th mting at which th vot will b takn. A two-thirds majority of th Board mmbrship prsnt at a schduld Board mting shall b rquird for rmoval from offic. G. TERMS OF OFFICE AND VACANCIES Th trm of offic of th board will b Fbruary lsthrough January 3 Ist. Should a vacancy in offic occur, th board will appoint a SPEA mmbr to fill this position. If th Prsidnt's position bcoms vacant th Vic Prsidnt will assum th dutis of th Prsidnt for th rmaindr of thir trm and th board will appoint a SPEA mmbr as Vic Prsidnt. H. COMPOSITION OF SPEA SPEA will consist of thr studnts from ach matriculating class, which ar votd on by thir rspctiv dntal class. Onc chosn, th lctd SPEA mmbrs will

5 hav anothr lction amongst th group to dtrmin th Prsidnt, Vic Prsidnt, Immdiat Past Prsidnt, Scrtary/Trasurr, and nin Mmbrs-at-Larg. I. INTERNAL PROCEDURES Sction I. Mtings Gnral mtings will b hld as schduld. Twnty-fiv prcnt of th xcutiv board shall constitut a quorum for transaction of businss at any gnral mting. Spcial mtings of th Association may b ptitiond to th Prsidnt at any tim by twnty-fiv prcnt of th xcutiv board. Th Board will hav rgularly schduld mtings. A quorum for any board mting is dfind as svnty-fiv prcnt of th board. Spcial mtings of th Board may b calld at any tim by th Prsidnt or ptitiond to th Prsidnt by twnty-fiv prcnt of th Board mmbrs. Notic of spcial mtings must b communicatd to all Board mmbrs at last 48 hours in advanc of th mting. Th Excutiv Committ of th Board shall consist of th Prsidnt, Vic Prsidnt, Scrtary/Trasurr, and Immdiat Past Prsidnt. Th quorum of th xcutiv committ shall b four mmbrs. Thr ar two typs of official mtings: gnral mtings and cas mtings. A quorum will consist of 75 prcnt of th committ mmbrship, with at last two mmbrs from ach class participating. A faculty advisor or proxy must also b prsnt during th vot. Sction I. A. Gnral Mtings a Gnral mtings will b hld quartrly or as ndd as dtrmind by th mmbrship of SPEA. All dcisions will b rndrd by a simpl majority vot. Sction I. B. Cas Mtings Cas mtings will occur promptly within on wk, whnvr possibl, aftr a concrn is brought to th committ. Studnts, faculty, or administration may rfr mattrs to SPEA. All final judgmnts as outlind in Articl IV, Sction I will b rndrd by a two-thirds majority vot of th mmbrs participating.

6 J. THE ROLE OF SPEA IN PROFESSIONALISM Sction I. Cass 0 Sinc SPEA is not a disciplinary body, it cannot mak a dtrmination of guilt. It is a committ chargd with xploring th problm with th studnt(s) involvd. Th following options ar availabl to it: i. No furthr action ii. Rmdial action through assistanc to th studnt and basd upon concurrnc by th studnts involvd Dfrrd action for futur contingncis iv. Rfrral to th Acadmic and Profssional Standards Conlmitt v. Rfrral to th Judicial Board on st~tdnt conduct vi. Othr action as appropriat If a studnt commits a dishonorabl action but maks a conscintious and voluntary ffort to rctify th situation prior to any invstigational procdurs, SPEA may tak th studnt's fforts into considration. No dtails of th procdings of SPEA will b includd in th studnt's prmannt rcord unlss SPEA dlibrations bcom part of th basis for subsqunt action by th Offic of Studnt Affairs or th Judicial Board on studnt conduct. 0 Sanctions rndrd against th subjct studnt will b mad on a cas-by-cas basis only aftr SPEA has invstigatd th cas in qustion. 0 A two-thirds majority vot will b rquird to dtrmin th outcom of a particular studnt cas brought to th SPEA mmbrs. If thr is a ti thn th Prsidnt will b abl to vot in ordr to rsolv th ti. 0 Th accusr will rmain anonymous as long as th cas is bing rviwd by th SPEA mmbrs. At th tim that th complaint is brought forward by th accusr to SPEA, th SPEA mmbr is rsponsibl for tlling th studnt that h/sh will rmain anonymous as long as th cas is bing rviwd by SPEA. If for any rason th cas has to b snt to th Offic of St~tdnt Affairs, thn th anonymity of th accusr can and may b compromisd in ordr to nsur full disclosur and to allow th Offic of Studnt Affairs to qustion th accusr furthr if nd b. 0 An thics complaint can b brought to th attntion of SPEA mmbrs ithr via mail or th rfrring party may choos to tll a SPEA mmbr in prson. J. FACULTY1 STAFF ADVISOR Th xcutiv board must slct th faculty advisor ach yar by a two-third majority vot.
