CONVENTION SCHEDULE Lybarger s original ½ gain rule was the first fitting method that still forms the backbone of all of today s fitting methods. Fitting methods were first developed when all hearing aids were linear. In this seminar, we will follow the evolution of fitting methods as this is also intertwined with the development of real ear measurement (REM). Lunch and Exhibitor Passport Session - Part II (1 CE Hour) Auditory Masking Demystified (2 CE Hours) Masking is an essential procedure in clinical practice. The biggest hurdle facing effective and consistent clinical implementation of masking is that it is not always clearly understood. The holy grail of masking is the plateau, which can only be achieved because of something known as interaural attenuation (IA). Masking is all about IA, and an appreciable amount of IA exists only when the masking noise is delivered by air (not bone) conduction. This leads us to a fundamental truth; that masking is done by air conduction, for both air & bone conduction testing. The purpose of this seminar is to explain the concepts behind masking in plain terms that will be easy to digest. We will then go through specific case examples in both air and bone conduction testing, to showing the procedures step by step. 3:10 PM 3:20 PM 3:20 PM 5:00 PM Brain Training and Hearing Cognition (2 CE Hours) Hearing aids can do a lot these days. Yet, the most desired improvements, hearing in noise, are linked not only to the hearing aid, but the brain of the patient. This course will discuss how hearing, the brain, and cognition are linked. We will look at ways to impact the various aspects of cognition and how it can impact the ability of an individual to function, hear and understand, in various environments. Beyond the theoretical, we will look at the practical application in today s clinics and the potential of the future of brain training and hearing cognition. Continuing education credit will be given during two full days of the Conference. Fifty minutes equals 1 CE hour so our schedule has been adjusted accordingly. s have been scheduled between sessions.
