Thursday, July 26 Current Infection Prevention Protocols and Recommendations: Are You in Compliance? Rachael Dorn, RDH, MSDH Infection prevention is essential for the health and safety of patients and dental health professionals. Preventing the transmission of microorganisms and disease requires breaking the chain of infection. This entails performing a series of repeatable and sequential steps for effective infection prevention. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations on infection control for the dental setting include standard precautions that should be followed on a daily basis, and include procedures to be performed at the beginning of the day, before and after treating each patient, and at the end of the day. The objective of this course is to provide the dental healthcare professional with an overview of current infection prevention protocols that are required to break the chain of infection and prevent disease transmission. Rachael Dorn, RDH, MSDH, is a global clinical education curriculum developer for Dentsply Sirona. She received her master s degree in dental hygiene education and research from Old Dominion University. She also holds a bachelor of science in dental hygiene with an emphasis in health policy and administration from Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and an associate degree from Allegany College of Maryland in dental hygiene. She has been a clinical hygienist for 12 years (still practicing) and was an instructor in an accredited dental hygiene school for six years. She is a member of the American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA), and past president for its Howard County, Maryland, local component, member of the American Dental Educators Association, and a member of the International Federation of Dental Hygienists. In 2016 she was selected from a pool of applicants to attend ADHA s Unleashing Your Potential leadership development program. This program is funded by an educational grant from Dentsply Sirona. 6

7 Friday, July 27 Three-Dimensional Endodontic Instrumentation and Obturation Dr. Mario Abdennour At last endodontic evolution meets endodontic revolution! After two decades of research and experimentation with nickle titanium (NiTi) rotary instruments, an expandable rotary instrument has been created. New adaptive three-dimensional files have produced a revolution in simplicity, efficiency and safety for you and your patients. These unique instruments expand at body temperature effectively debriding and disinfecting oval and irregular shaped canals without compromising the structural integrity of the treated tooth. This body temperature transformation allows faster and safer instrumentation using less files than conventional techniques. The improved filedentin interface allows minimally invasive root canal preparations that can easily be obturated using bioceramics. True 3-D instrumentation and obturation has arrived. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will have learned: The basic foundations of endodontic success. The concept of anatomic shaping. To triage basic and advanced cases and how to apply the correct instrumentation protocol for each case. Mario Abdennour, DMD, MMSc, received his doctor of dental medicine degree in 1989 from the Washington University School of Dental Medicine where he received the Outstanding Clinical Ability award. Following his dental degree, he attended a postgraduate general practice residency at a University of Southern California affiliated hospital. In 2000 he received his specialty certificate in endodontics, as well as a master in medical sciences in oral biology from the Advanced Graduate Endodontic Program at Harvard University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Abdennour currently holds a faculty appointment as a clinical instructor at the Advanced Graduate Endodontic Program at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where he teaches surgical and nonsurgical endodontics on a part-time basis. During his specialty program, he also trained in surgical endodontics at the Karl-Franzens University Hospital in Austria. Upon graduation from Harvard, he was the class recipient of the Krakow Award for Clinical Proficiency in Endodontics. In addition, Dr. Abdennour has conducted endodontic research at the Forsyth Institute in Boston contributing in the patent of a therapeutic endodontic agent. He has also instructed and presented live endodontic surgery for the endodontic program of the West Virginia University School of Dentistry. Dr. Abdennour has also served as the president of the Greater Salem District Dental Society in New Hampshire and as the chairman of the Merrimack Valley District Dental Society in Massachusetts. Dr. Abdennour has also served the Merrimack Valley District Dental Society as scientific co-chair and assistant secretary. Presently, he is the president of the Massachusetts Association of Endodontists. As a member of Real World Endo s board of advisors, Dr. Abdennour is certified to conduct lectures and seminars on precision-based endodontics. This program is funded by an educational grant from Real World Endo. 7
