This class utilizes shallow rebound work, s tretches, and strength work to create a challenging exercise program based in the Pilates Method. Contemporary : (formerly known as "modern dance") Contemporary dance is influenced by many styles, particularly modern dance. Learn how to connect to the sensations of moving by incorporating imagery, breath, and improvisation. Learn how to work with and against gravity and using your breath to connect to the movements. This class is recommended for all types of dancers, athletes, and people who just want to feel more confident moving through space! Contemporary Hip Hop: This class will fuse two distinct styles into one: technical contemporary and grounded hip hop. We will go over basic technique in hip hop, footwork, ballet and modern, while ending in learning a short 30 second dance. We will learn how to listen to the music in new ways, and use our bodies to be an interpretation. Jazz : Jazz dance incorporates a broad range of dance styles and often is accompanied by jazz or popular music. If you ever wanted to learn how to dance for a Broadway production, this class is for you. You will learn classic jazz movements and isolations of the torso and hips and snappy rhythmic patterns. Jazz shoes or jazz sneakers are recommended. Tango: Is poor coordination & rhythm stopping you from dancing? Remember, if you can walk & count to 8, then you can Tango! This course will cover the basics of the Argentine Tango. Zumba: The Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy-to-follow moves to create a one-of-a kind fitness program that will blow you away. This course will cover material halfway to black belt. Text and gi required. Tae Kwon Do: Training for this Korean Martial Art includes a system of kicks, blocks, punches, and open-handed strikes. Also included are various takedowns, sweeps, throws, and joint locks. Open to various levels. Uniforms are optional. Tanjo-jutsu: Tanjo-jutsu is the use of a staff, approximately 4 feet in length, for self-defense. Tanjo-jutsu is essentially ju-jutsu with a staff; the staff greatly magnifies the force and effectiveness while providing the defender with an increased level of safety. The techniques covered are appropriate for a cane, walking stick, tree branch, piece of lumber, etc. No prior experience is necessary.
