1 E J Getz, the pickle lady (notice the two pickles dangling from the sweater), wins WOTM ugly sweater contest. It was a closely contested race for second, third and even fourth place, but E J ran away with the grand prize. A great prize for a great lady. I do believe that this is two years in a row. A dynasty. New membership policy from the LOOM Board: Any current member can sign up a new member for two years and the new member will get a third year of membership free. They save 70 dollars, and gain all of the advantages of belonging to the Loyal Order of Moose. This policy pertains only to LOOM memberships and unfortunately cannot be extended to WOTM memberships. Thank you again to our volunteers. In the short time being Governor I have encountered a number of hurdles. With the Board and the Administrator s help we managed to get over most of these hurdles. I am positive working together we can overcome any hurdles that may occur in the future. Looking at the good times. On October 7 th the Men and WOTM took part in the Riverhead Country fair promoting the Moose Fraternity and offering Free ID Finger Printing. Our Classic Car club, on October 14th had another great Car show at Tanager Mall and donated $2, to Moose Charities. Our WOTM on October 20th had a very successful Monster Mash Bash Dinner Dance. While the ladies assisted the children the men prepared the food. Thank you to everyone who helped make this a fun event for the Children. 5 WOMEN OF THE MOOSE HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE In the last few years we have: *Sent clothes and household items to Tennessee for those in need due to the wildfires. *Gave a money donation to Texas after flooding. *Have been giving clothing, food, toiletries to "The Veterans Place" in Yaphank. *Donated 50 bookbags filled with toiletries and clothing to Birthright. *Have been giving clothing, supplies and money to The Butterfly Effect. *Contributed money to FRNCA for their school supply drive. *Donated to the Susan G. Komen breast cancer Organization. *Donated to the North Fork Breast Health Coalition. *Gave school supplies to Phillips Avenue School. *Sent our monetary commitment to Mooseheart for the Centennial Project in a year and a half instead of the allotted 3 years. *Donated to Hospice, Ronald McDonald House, local food pantries, and Hope House. *We have donated pajamas and books to a local shelter at Christmas. *Sent Christmas cards and small presents to the local adult home. *30 shoe boxes filled with items for Samaritan's Purse. *Donated to East End Hospice *Donated to Friends Kitchen We have also enhanced our lodge by buying new silverware and contributing to the purchase of new chairs, and awnings for the outside of the building. Thank you for your support 16 From the Membership Committee We continue to struggle to sign new members into the Order. After 8 months, through most of December, we should have signed somewhere close to 100 members. Our assigned goal was to sign 146 new members by 4/30/2019, roughly 12 per month. We have only signed 45 through December, so as you can see we are falling behind. Brothers, we need your best efforts to sign new men into the Order in order to strengthen Our Defending Circle and provide for our children at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven. REMEMBER, you promised! With close to 1,000 Members on our rolls, I am certain that there are 100 of us who would like to sign up a relative, friend or an acquaintance into our Fraternity. In December 2018 we had 132 memberships expiring. Through mid- December your Membership Committee, utilizing phone calls and reminder cards sent by me had whittled that number to 48 (84 paid.) In January, 2019 we have only 16 expiring memberships. We will be looking to get each and every one of those paid up before the end of the month. The latest figures that I have shows that we have 982 active, paid up members. Our goal is 1,021; we are a negative 39. We continue to be ranked #2 in the New York State Moose Association; There is only one lodge in New York State that has more active paid up members on the rolls. We are only 17 behind them as they signed up many new members last year in the First Responders Membership Promotion. You see, they have a Fire Dept. across the street!!!...and they are having difficulty re-signing them. I'd love to see Riverhead #1742 ranked #1 in the Association; I think we can catch them. How about you? There is a new membership promotion approved by the Board of Officers. Please look for details in this issue of your Moose Notes. If you should require assistance with any membership related difficulty don't hesitate to contact me: Respectfully submitted, Wm. E. Meyer Sr. Membership Chairman billona049@gmail.com LOOM MEETINGS Board of Officers meetings are held Tuesdays at 7:00 PM. House Committee meeting immediately following. We then presented certificates and concluded by singing "You're a Grand Old Flag". Our next Brunch will be sometime in the spring. Stay tuned. Pictured left to right: Wm. E. 9 Please...tell my heart, my achy breaky heart LINE DANCING CONTIN- UES Professional instructor Natalie continues with country (and other) line dancing. Nominal charge will be collected. Social Quarters will be open for snacks. Bring your friends and have a boot scootin boogie of a time. Wednesday nights at 6:00 Did you know that students in Jr. & Sr. High School need community service to graduate? Well, as luck would have it, they can get that service credit by volunteering for the Moose Lodge. Landscaping cleanup, kitchen and serving help, or just general assistance for an event will qualify them for that community service. A letter will be sent from the Lodge to their school documenting that service. Tell your kids and grandkids. We sure do need their help. Just a reminder The Riverhead Moose Lodge has a commercial account at ADVANCED AUTO PARTS This allows the members to receive a discounted price on pretty much all merchandise. Sometimes the discount is an improvement over the sale price. In any event if you are in need of any automotive merchandise you can save some money by taking advantage of the Lodge discount. Please be prepared to present Moose ID as well as a picture ID. 12 LODGE HOLIDAY CLOSINGS: DEC. 31, 2018 NEW YEAR S EVE (MONDAY) JAN. 01, 2019 NEW YEAR S DAY (TUESDAY) TTU MVWXV'Y "Southpaw Karaoke" is back.
