1 Chapter Ronald McDonald House Thanks You All! Congratulations to Attleboro MFC Golf Team You did it again! We did good damage to filling a LARGE recycle bin at the Ronald McDonald House with our can tabs! They appreciate it so much. We are helping families to stay closer to their children that are ill or even in critical condition at the Hasbro Children s Hospital. You truly show what the Moose is about. This picture is of Kathy Wilson and her Granddaughter Shania. Notice the leis they are wearing made out of the tabs! The volunteers at the RMH thought that was the neatest thing! Thanks to the kids that helped to collect tabs as well as you, our members! Chris Sweeney, Doug Swenson, Jim Precourt and Babe Mendes represented our lodge at the Bring Mooseheart to New England Golf Tournament. They came in 3rd out of around 37 teams! Excellent job guys! This tournament helps the NE region to give a summer vacation to the boys that live in the NE Home at Mooseheart. Something that many other kids never get. You do not have to be a golf player to help either, there are many ways you can help support this event. Talk to one of these guys or your community service rep to find out more. Now Open Chris Clam Shack Stop on in on Friday for the best seafood dinner in town. There is the regular fish and chips, baked fish, hand cut French Fries, Chowder, Clam Cakes and maybe some weekly specials.

We have pitch starting again this month. The Sweeney Crab Shack has already opened!!!!! He has a great menu so come in and check it out on Friday nights. We have started a Higher Degree night on Wednesday s with drinks ½ price for all who hold a Higher Degree, both men and women. We are also trying to bring back the Wednesday night dinners. A different mystery dinner every week. Wednesday is a slow day for our Lodge. If there is any interest in Wii Bowling, Pool or Darts please let us know; maybe we can liven up Wednesday nights. The Drink List will be ending on January 1, Please cash in on the drinks that you currently have on that list. The House Committee is exploring a different option, to purchase drinks for your friends, and it will be announced soon. I would like to thank Tom Bolton for all his hard work as Legion Chairman for the last couple of years.tom you will be missed and I still look forward to hearing ideas from you. Finally, I know we have a lot of raffles going on but please remember why we run them, it is to help the Children at Mooseheart, and the Seniors at Moosehaven, our Local Community, as well as our own Lodge. I hope this finds you all in good health and spirits. We are now going into our Holiday Seasons and we need all the ladies with their thinking caps on. If you have any children going to the Halloween party, the date is October 27th and Oct 16th is the deadline for signup. So for those that want to sign your kids up keep these dates in mind. We are also looking for ideas so if there is anyone out there with any idea's, games or fun things to do, let one of us know. We do have the "Turkey Trot" Raffle in the makings. Keep your eyes open for the date it will start and the tickets will be pulled. Also, we have a cookbook in the makings. Anyone with recipes or that had given a recipe, please contact myself or one of the other officers so we can make sure all recipes are put in the book. I am really enjoying myself in making this and I hope that it is a great turnout for all. My , and both phone numbers are at the end of this News Letter so feel free to call with any questions. We are having another Woman's Luncheon on October 21'st from 12:00 to 1:00. For all of you that are interested please come and bring your friends. We need to build our Chapter with new faces. Plus if you get two people to enroll you get a year of free dues. So Please mark it on your calendar and we hope to see you all there. If anyone is interested in making a dish or dessert for the luncheon just let one of us on the Board know. All will be welcome. 3 Moose Legion Committee Did you hear, the qualifications for Moose Legion has changed? It is now easier for you to become a member of the Higher Degree. The Code of rules were changed to read as follows: Qualifications -Members of the Loyal Order of Moose are qualified for membership in the Moose Legion if they meet the following eligibility requirements: 1) Must be an active Lodge member and 2) Must have completed 6 months of Lodge membership or 3) Must have sponsored 1 Lodge application that has been accepted through LCL.Net Ever wonder Why you should become a Moose Legionnaire? St John's River Moose Legion 227 Motto Moose Legionnaires separate the men from the boys! A proud Moose Legionnaire goes that extra mile to aid our children at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven. He is proud to volunteer his time and donates towards our Lodge and Community Service projects. He is proud to sign up his friends and family as new members. He is proud to work on and attend functions for the Lodge, Moose Legion, and Higher Degree. He is the proud Moose Legionnaire that you see at District, State and International Meetings. He is a proud Fraternalist, abides by the Ritual, and has gained much wisdom through age. He is proud to become a Lodge Chairman or Officer and aspires toward a personal goal of becoming a Fellow and then Pilgrim. When he reaches all these goals, you will still see that proud Moose Legionnaire volunteering at all levels. The proceeds go towards the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner. Tom Stewart will host it once again. It is sure to be another great event! Tickets are available in the Social quarters. Dead line is 10/16 so we can order the food. Tickets are limited please purchase early. As you can see on the front page, we turned in the tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. What a great way to help families out that have children ill and in the Children s Hospital. Very soon we will have a collection box out for items to give our Veterans. As always we will be looking for Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Deodorant, playing cards, note pads, socks and other items. The list will be posted with the box. Please help with this annual event. I have the great pleasure of telling everyone that we received a Superior Rating for our Community Service for the first quarter. This is the highest rating from Moose International. 4 Upcoming Events WOTM Monthly Basket Raffle Please help the WOTM make there year successful! Carol Cote s Mystery Box Raffle This was a fun raffle last year. Carol will be holding one Mystery Box Raffle for the next 3 months to raise funds for the Thanksgiving Dinner. Please stop by to get tickets. Pitch Starts Up Again Pitch is starting back up on October 12 th. Please stop in to sign up or contact Abe. This has been a great time for many of our members over many years. Congratulations Cindy! Comedy Night October 20 th This was a great time last year. For a small donation of $20 you get dinner and a great show. Ask anyone that came last year. Watch for flyers and tickets soon. Don t wait till the last minute for this one! WOTM Luncheon - October 21 st All the WOTM had a great time at this last luncheon. Some women even brought in new friends to learn about us and meet our chapter and they even signed up that day. Please consider attending and bringing a friend. Halloween Fun - October 27 th The Children s party sign up sheet is in the Social Quarters. Deadline is Oct. 16 th. The Annual Adult party will be that night. Tickets are available in the Social Quarters. MMOB Mass Moose on Bikes has been a great addition to the MA/RI State Association. These people do so many things to raise money for local charities as well as Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Check out the upcoming events: October 13th - Don Sullivan Memorial Run to Yarmouth Lodge November 10th - Annual MMOB Toy Run for Rosie's Place On September 29 th our Chapter, WOTM and LOOM from all over the state gathered for a celebration for Cindy Riley, the first WOTM from Chapter #974 to ever reach the level of Deputy Grand Regent. Cindy spent many hours and traveled all over the state to help other chapters and WOTM to help make our State Association a success. This is the highest position for the WOTM in our State Association. She just ended her year in August and this event was to thank her and celebrate her successful year. This is only one of many pictures but thought about it. Jim stood behind her the whole year so I thought it was only fitting to have the picture of them together. We will have more on our website. Social Quarters and Kitchen Hours The Social Quarters is open for business at Noon every day. The kitchen is also open from noon to 6PM Mon Wed, Fri and Sunday. Please stop by and enjoy lunch.
