The 2019 New Mexico Optometric Association Convention offers 22 hours of NMOA Approved continuing education for optometrists and 6 hours of continuing education for paraoptometrics. In addition to the continuing education, this year s convention will offer a Wine Tasting Reception on Thursday, Exhibit Hall Functions on Friday Evening and Saturday Lunch, and the Installation Dinner & Silent Auction on Saturday. Exhibit Hall Functions 48 exhibitors will be hosting you for a reception on Friday Evening from 5:00pm-8:00pm and Saturday from 11:00am-2:00pm for Lunch. Paraoptometrics will attend the lunch from 11:00am-1:00pm and Optometrists will attend the lunch from 12noon-2:00pm. Food and Beverage will be provided at both functions. Island Beach Party! Installation Dinner & Silent Auction All convention registrants are invited to attend the Installation Dinner and Silent Auction on Saturday, April 6th. This year s theme is Island Beach Party! We encourage you to dress yourselves and your staff in the Beach theme. Think Hawaiian Shirts, Sun & Fun, Sun Glasses, etc.! Prizes will be awarded for Best Costume and Best Office Costume! 6 Paraoptometric Continuing Education All Paraoptometric CE will be Provided by Lynn E. Lawrence, CMSgt(ret), CPOT, ABOC, COA Lynn E. Lawrence is currently a national lecturer and an ophthalmic technician for Mills Eye and Facial Plastic Surgery. He is an approved speaker for the American Optometric Association, American Board of Opticianry, and Joint Commission for Allied Healthcare Personnel in Ophthalmology. Lynn currently develops training, compliance, and staff development materials as he has a passion to see others grow in their respective professions and in their advancement of certification. This course will also assist with techniques on dealing with burnout. A discussion on the signs and effects of burnout will be discussed. Possible solutions and suggestions will be discussed. This course is very popular and helpful. Contact Lens Basics- AOA-CPC & NCLE This course covers contacts lens from the fitting from patient motivation to successful contact lens wear. Ocular anatomy will be discussed, the steps required in fitting contacts, patient education, and insertion and removing techniques. Exhibitor Luncheon The Ultimate Practice II - AOA-CPC, ABO & NCLE This course is designed to be a more in-depth course to assist the attendees in understanding the primary requirements for a thriving practice. A handout is given and key points for making a practice more practical are discussed. The course will cover the key and critical elements within a practice that are required for an efficient practice. Screening Children - AOA-CPC & ABO This course will discuss the ocular development and growth of young children. The discussion will cover issues dealing with the pre-screening and preparation of young children. It will go over scenarios and possible outcomes. It will discuss set-up, testing, and concerns in treating young children and dealing with parents. How Dry Eye Disease Impacts Vision and Refraction - AOA-CPC, ABO & NCLE This course is designed to discover the disease and complexities of dry eyes and its impact upon the refractive status of the eye. This course will discover the anatomy and physiology of the eye and tear film. It will also cover symptoms, diagnosing, testing, and current available treatments for dry eye disease.
