2 Protective Life s IT Charity Golf Tournament Benefiting First Light, A Center for Homeless Women and Children and The Firehouse Shelter Birmingham, Alabama The annual golf tournament raised $15,368. 9 Junior Achievement of Greater Birmingham, Inc. Protective associates participated in the JA Bowling Classic and raised $1,725, which was matched by the Protective Life Foundation. 10 The Arthritis Foundation Protective s team, Joint Venture, participated in the annual Jingle Bell Run to raise money for the Arthritis Foundation. It raised $1,275, which was matched by the Protective Life Foundation. 11 YWCA Central Alabama Family Violence Center One of Human Resources small groups, Giving Back, donated gifts bags to the women in the Family Violence Center for Mother s Day. Starr Gill, Priscilla Dempsey, Debbie Howell First Light, A Center for Homeless Women and Children ProEquities, Inc., Protective s in-house broker dealer, collected and donated a generous bounty of food to First Light during the Thanksgiving season. 12 Vietnam Vets of America HR s small group, Giving Back, donated various household items and clothing to the Vietnam Vets of America in Bannockburn, IL in honor of the 4th of July. Holly Hill Children s Services & Mercy Maternity Home Cincinnati, Ohio Each year, Protective s Cincinnati office contributes money towards its Holiday Charity Drive. In addition to collecting money from employees, it also receives contributions from its life and annuity wholesalers in the field. This year, Cincinnati raised $5,000! The Protective Life Foundation matched the amount, for a total of $10,000, and the monies were evenly distributed to Holly Hill Children s Services, a multi-faceted social service agency serving children and families in the Bluegrass region of northern Kentucky, and to Mercy Maternity Home in Erlanger, KY. Appreciation of Military Families Birmingham, AL; Cincinnati, OH; Elgin, IL Protective s Elgin office, in collaboration with its partner departments in the Birmingham and Cincinnati offices, raised money for the adoption of six military families through a variety of activities, including a dunk tank, weekly raffles, jean days, cash donations and bake sales. The fundraising goal of $3,000 was easily exceeded the groups raised in excess of $5,600! In total, 24 children experienced a more joyous Christmas thanks to the effort and generosity of so many at Protective. 58
13 First Light, A Center for Homeless Women and Children Protective s Information Technology department collected and donated gifts and toys to First Light. As a result, the ladies who reside at the Center had a wonderful time shopping for their children during the holiday season. Protective s Internal Audit department purchased, prepared and served a Christmas lunch for the residents of First Light.
