1 Bromley LMC News Update w/c Turner syndrome: A chromosomal condition affecting female development. 204A BMA reforms Sessional GPs Working The GPC has announced a series of wide-ranging changes to the way sessional GPs are represented within the BMA, as part of a package of reforms based on conclusions drawn from a large-scale consultation process that included a survey of over 1800 sessional GP members and a review of the way LMCs represent these doctors locally. New reforms outlined in the report include: Delegating authority to the Sessional GPs Subcommittee of GPC The formation of an SGPS executive committee Four additional permanent seats on GPC for the SGPS executive committee New guidance for LMCs to improve their representation of sessional GPs locally A new strategy for communications aimed at improving the flow of information 204B Retinopathy screening for patients in wheelchairs Diabetic patients in wheelchairs cannot currently be screened at Beacon or Orpington Hospital unless they are able to transfer from their wheelchair to the screening chair, can keep their head steady and can lean forward to put their chin on the chin rest. Patients who will not benefit from screening or who would be unsuitable for treatment should be exception reported. Patients who, despite their disability, would still benefit from screening should be referred to Miss Jackson's clinic at the West Kent Eye, where hoist facilities are available if needed. NB please notify the retinal screening administrator of the decision made (i.e. wheelchair patient referred to PRUH ophthalmologist for assessment) or send an opting out log form. 204C Bromley Healthcare project update A joint project committee, chaired by Liz Butler, has been set up to oversee the transition from CPU to Bromley Healthcare. Donya Young is representing the LMC at this vital stage on that committee and Hamendra Patel continues in post, working with the CPU. The aim for the new organisation remains to go live by 1/4/2011 at the latest. 204D CQC Registration CQC registration will apply for NHS GPs from April 2012 and in anticipation of that deadline, ongoing consultation is taking place on how the Health and Social Care Act 2008: Code of

2 Practice for the NHS on the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections will relate to primary care. For now though it is guidance only. 204E NICE topic selection panels The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence is recruiting new professional members for its Topic Selection consideration panels.
