Additional discussion on changes in industry & national trends in assisted living Dementia Care: A Model for Well-Being ROOM 2 Angela Norman, DNP, Associate Director Reynolds Institute on Aging-UAMS This session will greatly benefit all health care professionals by advancing their knowledge of dementia and increasing awareness of alternate supportive approaches, thereby reducing the need for pharmacological interventions and other techniques that are ultimately harmful to those receiving care. This model was designed to provide low-cost, less intrusive, and safer alternatives for residents and healthcare providers alike when practiced consistently. This ultimately reduces poor health outcomes, hospital and geriatric-psychiatric admissions, and the cost of dementia care for facilities. The model was designed to encourage staff to recognize and value the identity of each person living with dementia based on the domains of well-being Food Safety ROOM 3 Jana Gardner, MS Hotel & Restaurant Administration, Nutritional Sciences Session will cover the issue of quality and safety for food. The issue of quality and safety of food is highly vital for each person. Food safety affects health, working capacity, and quality of life. Food safety assurance is a very capacious concept, containing a lot of question, which affects the quality of the product at a particular stage of production and, in general, the final result. Are You Networking Your Company? ROOM 4 Phillip Whiteaker, President Business By Referral, Public Speaker Session will discuss with employees at any and every level how to build your business through community, employee, social media and all other means of networking. As President of Business by Referral, Rotary Club, River Valley Young Professional Summit Board I am well aware of involving your entire business team to be a sales team and representative for you.

Room 1 Craig Cloud, Director of Provider Services, State of Arkansas, Department of Human Services Session attendees will learn about Provider Services in Arkansas and the role of the new DPSQA in building capacity. Common Foot Problems: Diabetics & Seniors Room 2 Dr. Spencer Mortensen, DPM Session will discuss complications with diabetes, including peripheral neuropathy, ulcers, infections & other common foot and ankle issues faced in aging. Focus: Heart Failure Room 3 Janice Sudbrink, FNP-BC, APRN Session will discuss the definitions, causes, and staging of heart failure. Focus will be on contributing factors leading to frequent readmissions of heart failure and identify those who are a high risk for repeated hospitalizations. Additional discussion in the community role in implementing a CHF Lasix protocol in facilities to improve quality outcomes & prevent readmissions Advance Care Planning & POLST (Physician Order for Life Sustaining Treatment) Room 4 Lisa Vaden, Director, Hospice & Palliative Care Association of Little Rock Session attendees will learn the difference between Advance Directives and POLST and when each are applicable. Detailed information will be shared regarding the POLST form and its intent. Providers will receive information on when to utilize POLST and policies/procedures to consider within their care organizations (including long term care, hospital systems, emergency departments, etc) Lunch 11:50 p.m. 1:20 p.m. Melissa Curry, CEO Methodist Village Senior Living, ALF Administrator, CDP Session will focus taking the time to care for our seniors with a positive approach. The positive approach not only saves time and money, but also saves on frustration for seniors, family members, and caregivers.

Participates will understand how sensory losses affect an individuals function and identify accommodations for decreased sensory abilities. Financial Eligibility Issues w/ltc Medicaid Room 2 Jamison Bonds, Elder Law & VA Accredited Attorney Session will focus on Medicaid services and learning ways to identify financial eligibility for those needing long term care medicaid assistance. Fun Facts About Marijuana Room 3 Keith Larkin, PharmD Session will discuss interesting facts about marijuana, including uses, benefits, negativity associated with marijuana used and fact vs fiction information and Q&A session. Medicare: 1,2,3 Room 4 Kendall Price, Licensed Insurance Agent Session will discuss the ABCs of Medicare and will provide a simple way to understand the three basic Medicare options.

Sexuality, Intimacy, & Physical Abuse Room 2 Wansley Harrison, LCSW, Master Level Social Worker Session will review age and illness-related changes in sexual function; describes the research regarding older adults' and their family's and caregivers' attitudes regarding sexuality and intimacy; discusses sexuality and residents with dementia; and reviews nursing assessment and educational interventions that support healthy sexuality among older adults. Session will also discuss physical abuse and how to identify and steps for prevention. Rehab Not Just Physical Therapy Room 3 Carol Heffley, MS, OTR/L, Director of Rehab for Stein & Associates Session will focus on the myth that rehab focuses on just the physical therapy part of recovery. Session will identify options available in the rehab system. Oh NO! Please Don t GO!
