Child Watch Child Watch is supervised play while you exercise at the Y for children ages 6 weeks to 7 years. It is open the following hours: Mon.-Fri., 8:30-11:30 a.m. Mon.-Thurs., 4:30-8 p.m. Sat., 9-11 a.m. starting Sept. 29 Snow Policy If Holdrege Public School closes or starts late due to inclement weather, there will not be morning Child Watch or morning classes. A decision about evening classes and Child Watch will be made by 3 p.m. On non-school days, a decision about morning classes and Child Watch will be made by 8 p.m. the prior evening. 3 AQUATICS Safe in the Water Regular Pool Hours Mon.-Thurs.: 5:30 a.m.-noon, 4-8 p.m. Fridays: 5:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturdays: 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Sundays: 1-5:30 p.m. Swimming Lessons Y swim lessons help children learn to swim and be safe around the water. If you are unsure which level your child should attend, please visit with the YMCA swim lesson coordinator. FEE: $18 per session for members/ $32 for non-members. The Y is changing the structure of swim lessons this fall to try to make it more convenient. One or two swim lesson sessions will be offered each week lessons are offered. Classes will meet for 30 or 45 minutes depending on the level. Children should be ready to progress to the next session after four lessons. Below are the sessions offered this fall/early winter. Oct Water Babies, 5-5:30 p.m. Little Skippers, 5:30-6 p.m. Oct Skippers, 5-5:30 p.m. Big Skippers, 5:30-6 p.m. Nov Guppies, 5:15-6 p.m. Nov Polliwogs, 5:15-6 p.m. Nov Minnows, 5:15-6 p.m. Dec Fish & Flying Fish, 5:15-6 p.m. PRIVATE LESSONS The YMCA also offers private and semi-private swim lessons for children and adults. FEE: $10 per lesson for members $15 per lesson for non-members. Semi-private lessons FEE: $7 per child for 30 minutes for members/$12 per child for 30 minutes for non-members. SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY Always Here For Our Community Membership For All Through generous donors, the Y is able to offer membership assistance so that anyone may belong, regardless of income. If you are experiencing temporary job loss, medical expenses or other hardships, please speak to our membership manager about a reduced rate. YMCA Sprint Triathlon Saturday, Sept. 22, 8 a.m. The annual triathlon encourages people of all fitness levels to get up and move. Three divisions are available allowing for beginners and serious triathletes to all find a challenge. The Relay Division allows teams of three to compete with each person performing a different leg of the race. Swimming events will take place at the YMCA swimming pool with swimmers starting at various times. The run and bike events will take place in Holdrege starting and ending at the YMCA. Distances: Swim meters (11 laps); Bike - 10 miles; Run/Walk - 5K. Snow Pant and Snow Boot Drive October Do you have gently used snow pants and snow boots you would like to give away? If so, please bring them to the YMCA the week of Oct Snow pants and boots can make a big difference! We will give the donations to area schools to use for students who lack these necessities for the winter. Heritage Club Dinner Thank you to our 2012 Triathlon Sponsor! 4 HEALTHY LIVING Challenges Discovering Your Potential YOUTH PROGRAMS Ongoing Nurturing the Potential of Every Child Men vs. Women Weight Loss Challenge Wednesdays, Sept. 19-Dec. 12, 7 p.m. Lose weight in this 12-week program with the help of a little friendly competition between the sexes. A $500 prize is available to the man or woman who loses the highest percentage of body weight and is on the winning team. The program meets on Wednesday nights for fellowship, learning and a group workout. Class limit: 40 FEE: $50 member/$100 non-member. REGISTER by Sept. 12. Saturday Sweat Party Sept. 29, 9-10:30 9 a.m. Dec. 1, 10-11:15 11:15 a.m. Ditch the cartoons and jump start your weekend with Saturday morning fitness parties. Try various group exercise classes and earn bonus points for upcoming challenges. FEE: FREE to members and nonmembers. Bring a Friend! Fit and Pampered Sponsored by Heather s Clips & Tips & Unwind Massage Oct. 1-Nov Get fit this fall with regular exercise by attending 25 group exercise classes in 6 weeks. Those completing the challenge will receive a t- shirt and be entered into a drawing for pedicures, manicures, massages and more. FEE: $5. 12 Classes of Christmas Dec Challenge yourself this holiday season to keep in good cheer by completing 12 fitness classes between Dec You will receive a Christmas tree to hang at the Y, and each time you attend a group exercise class, you will receive an ornament to hang on the tree. Everyone who completes 12 classes will be in a drawing for a $50 gift card for holiday shopping. FEE: $5. Hold It For The Holidays Nov. 12-Jan. 4 This challenge focuses on keeping off the unwanted pounds that come with all the goodies the holidays bring. Those who Hold It for the Holidays will receive a T-shirt and will be in a drawing for prizes. FEE: $5. Leap & Learn Ages 3 Ages 3-5 Mon., Wed., Fri., 9: a.m., year- round program This class encourages imagination, creativity, socialization and physical activity. Fee: Drop-in program/no fee for members. Day pass rate for nonmembers. After School Program Grades K-4 K Aug. 16-May 17, After school until 6 p.m. The Y s state licensed after-school program gives kids a safe place to go after school where they can continue their learning, enjoy free-time with friends and participate in structured physical activities. Special programs are planned throughout the year for continued education. Transportation is provided from Holdrege schools. Limit: 52. Nonrefundable registration fee: $25. Weekly fee: $28 members/ $34 nonmembers. Program financial assistance available. Youth Weight Training For 11 to 15-year-olds Saturdays, 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Participants only need to attend one of the following sessions: Sept. 8, Oct. 13, Nov. 10 Participants will learn the basics of weight lifting followed by weight training on free weights and Cybex weights. Those under 15 will be able to use the wellness center upon completion. Class includes training on exercise etiquette, body composition, benefits of exercise, weight training basics, cardiovascular fitness, nutrition & supplement use, machine & free weight sessions. REGISTER by one week prior to class. FEE: $20. LIMIT: 6 each class 4 13

Swim Kids learn at their own pace and have fun. Lego Club & Y-Kids Art GROWING UP AT the Y As a single, full-time employed, enrolled in six credit-hours a semester mom, I just want to say that I don t know what I would ever do without the YMCA and all of the incredible programs they have for my daughter! She comes to the Y every day after school and almost all of the summer camps. If it weren t for the Y, I don t know where she could or would go. She has been coming here since she was 2 and she turned 7 in May. That s five years of growing up at the Y! Every day she learns and grows. Allison ADULT LEAGUES It s Not Just For Kids NEW! Pickle Ball League Wed., p..m. starting Sept. 19 Try it for FREE Sept. 5 & 12, p.m. Pickle Ball is a fun game played on a court with a net similar to tennis. It is played with a paddle slightly larger than ping-pong and a whiffle ball. It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game. Ages 18 & older. Register by Sept. 13 Men s Basketball League Sundays, p.m., starting Nov. 4 Get a team together for the Y s men s basketball league. Games are played 5- on-5 with a tournament following the regular season. Games are played at Holdrege High School. Ages 18 and older. FEE: $100/team Men s Drop-In Basketball Tues. & Thurs., 6:20-7 a.m. Ongoing half-court pick-up games. FEE: No fee for members/day pass non-members. Coed Adult Volleyball League Mondays, 6:30-9 p.m. starting Nov. 5 Games are played six-on-six at the YMCA with a tournament following the regular season play. Ages: 18 and older Registration Deadline: Oct. 28 FEE: $80/team Women s Volleyball League Sundays, 5:30-9:30 p.m. starting Nov. 4 Games are played six-on-six at the YMCA with a tournament following regular season play. Ages: 18 and older. Registration Deadline: Oct. 28 FEE: $100/team Ping Pong League Wednesdays, p.m., starting in late October Get out and have some fun in this adult singles ping-pong league. Tournament will follow league play. Age: 18 and older Racquetball League Mondays, Oct. 29-Dec. 17 Enjoy competitive games of racquetball in this fall league. Participants must play at a B level or above. Register by Oct. 2. FEE: $10 members/$20 non-members. Limit:

6 WELL-BEING & FITNESS Classes It s Good for the Heart TRX Suspension Training TRX Suspension Training develops strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously. This training is great for those who want to improve strength and daily movements. Individual, partner and small group TRX training is also available. Session dates: Sept. 10-Oct. 28 (Register starting Aug. 28) Nov. 5-Dec. 23 (Register starting Oct. 23) Please check the group exercise schedule for class times each session. Limit: 13 per class FEE: $20 members/$90 nonmembers. Boot Camp Discover your potential at Boot Camp. If you are a beginner or an avid exerciser, boot camp is for you. All camps include pre and post fitness testing, nutritional journals and a chance to make friends. Session Dates: Sept. 10-Oct. 28 (Register staring Aug. 28) Nov. 5-Dec. 23 (Register starting Oct. 23) Times: M-W-F, 5:30-6:30 a.m. T/Th 5:30-6:30 a.m. T/Th 6:30-7:30 p.m. (Sept/Oct. session only). FEE: Three-day a week: $40/$128; Two-day a week: $28/$100 GROUP EXERCISE Getting involved in a group exercise class improves your chances for developing a sustainable fitness routine. Nearly 82 percent of those participating in group exercise are still exercising 6 months later. Join a class anytime. Classes are included in your membership. The Y offers a variety of group exercise classes at many times of the morning, afternoon and evening. Class schedules change slightly every 8 weeks, many times adding new classes to accommodate member requests. For a current schedule of group exercise classes, pick up a copy at the Y or download a class schedule from the web site at YOUTH PROGRAMS November/December Enriching Young Minds Zumbatomic Ages Nov. 6-Dec. 6 11, 4-4:304 4:30 p.m. Zumbatomic classes are rockin, highenergy fitness-parties packed with specially choreographed, kid-friendly routines and all the music kids love, like hip-hop, reggaeton, cumbia and more. Parents love Zumbatomic because of the effects it has on kids, increasing their focus and self-confidence, boosting metabolism and enhancing coordination. Register by Nov. 1. Class limit: 15. YMCA Chess Club Grades 1-6 Tuesdays, p.m., Nov. 6-Dec Chess is a great game for all ages. It helps with problem-solving and planning skills. Register by Nov. 1. Class limit: 15 FEE: $12 members/$24 non-members Y-Kids Art Grades 1-6 KIDS LOVE Birthday Parties at the Y REGISTER BY NOVEMBER 1 FOR FALL PROGRAMS Thursdays, p.m., Nov. 1-Dec Class will feature different art styles to spark creativity and imagination. No class Nov. 22. FEE: $18 for members/$32 non-members. Register by Nov. 1. Class limit: 15 The YMCA offers fun and convenient birthday party packages that include cupcakes, table service and a T-shirt for the birthday child. Birthday parties are $50 for two hours. Bounce house parties are $125 for two hours. 6 11

7 YOUTH PROGRAMS November/December Building Skills and Confidence Mighty Hoopsters Ages 4 to Grade 2 Nov. 8-Dec Age 4- Kindergarten: Saturdays, 8:30 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. Grades 1-2: Thursdays, 5:15 or 6:15 p.m. This program will consist of a mini practice/clinic followed by a game each week. This program is a great way for youth to learn the basic fundamentals of basketball. Register by Nov. 1. No games Nov. 24. The Nov. 22 practice/game for grades 1-2 will be moved to Nov. 20. FEE: $18 members/$32 nonmembers FEE after deadline: $25 members/ $40 non-members. Rookies Basketball Grades 3-4, 3 Nov. 8-Dec Practices: Thursdays, 5:15 p.m., 6 p.m. or 6:45 p.m. Games: Saturdays, 9:30 a.m.-noon This program offers children the chance to learn both basketball fundamentals and to play games in a league format. Clinics will be run by Y staff and team coaches. No practice or games on Nov. 22 or 24. FEE: $25 members/$40 non-members Register by Nov. 1 FEE after deadline: $30 members/$45 non-members. FREE Basketball Hot Shot Competition Thursday, Oct. 18, 6-8 p.m. All ages welcome! Register at the event for a discounted rate on youth basketball programs. Prizes will be awarded to all participants in the hot shot competition. Thank you to our Youth Basketball Sponsor Father/Child Basketball New program coming in 2013! This program is designed to provide a unique bonding experience for fathers and their child (ages 6 and older). Registration deadline is Jan. 4. Program will be on Mondays, from 6-7 p.m. Jan. 7-Feb. 4. WELL-BEING & FITNESS Classes Giving You the Tools to Succeed Live a Life of Vitality Mondays, 7-8:30 7 p.m., Sept. 10, Oct. 1 & Nov. 5 Does making conscious, healthy choices sound blah or overwhelming? This three-part series will provide stories and ideas to help take small steps toward a more healthy, chemical-free and money-saving life. Join instructor Janita Pavelka as she helps you save your money, save your health and save your sanity. This class is in conjunction with Central Community College. All classes will meet at the college. Register one week prior to class. FEE: $10 per class. Please register at CCC. Running Club Saturdays, 8 a.m., Aug. 18-Sept. 29 This run club is open to current runners and those who want to be runners. The group will run together each Saturday morning on different routes around Holdrege with different levels of difficulty. A training plan will be provided for individual on-your-own runs during the week. Running club members may also register as a group for race events around the area. (Race fees apply) I Run This Town shirts provided. FEE: None for members. Fit Farmers Nov. 6-Feb. 6 28, Tues./Thurs., 1:30 p.m. Good health is as important as a healthy yield. Develop healthy habits that will last from planting through harvest. Fit Farmers will focus on basic fitness, nutrition, recreational activities and fun. Enjoy coffee time to talk shop after your work out. All ages welcome. Anyone with an interest in agriculture may join. (Official farmer title not needed). No classes Dec. 25, 27 or Jan. 1, 3. Family Pumpkin Decorating Saturday, Oct. 20, 9-10:30 a.m. Bring your family to the Y to decorate pumpkins. Pumpkins and craft materials will be provided. A giant pumpkin will be given away at the event to the person who guesses the closest weight. Register by Oct. 15. Limited to 100 participants. FEE: $3 per pumpkin (members)/$5 per pumpkin non-members. Gingerbread House Decorating With Santa Saturday, Dec. 1, 9-10:30 9 a.m. Create a family holiday memory when you decorate a gingerbread house with provided frosting and candy. Santa will be making a special visit to the Y during this family event. Don t forget your camera! Please register by Nov. 28. Limited to 100 participants. Flag Football Grades K Grades K-3 Tuesdays, Sept. 11-Oct. 16 Time: 5:15, 5:45 p.m. or 6:15 p.m. Children can learn the basics of football in this structured 5-on-5 flag football league that focuses on sportsmanship and fair play. Games will be played on the fields behind the Holdrege Middle School. FEE: $18 members/$32 nonmembers. FEE after deadline: $25 members/$40 non -members. All-sport Y jersey fee is $10. If you already have one that still fits, you do not need to purchase another. Register by Sept. 4. Blast Ball Ages 4 to First Grade Thursdays, Sept. 13-Oct. 17, 5:15-6:15 p.m. Blast Ball is a perfect way to introduce your child to the fundamentals of baseball. During the first 30 minutes, you will assist your child through some basic drills. Then, we will split into teams and play a game. Program will be at the YMCA. Register by Sept. 4. REGISTER BY SEPTEMBER 4 FOR FALL PROGRAMS YMCA Lego Club Grades K-6 Mon., p.m., Sept. 10-Oct. 15 Show off your Lego building passion and creativity in this YMCA program where participants design their own project based off of weekly themes. Cheerleading Grades K-4 K Tuesdays, Sept. 11-Oct. 16 6:15 p.m. Cheerleaders will be taught basic skills, cheers and jumps and experience performing as they cheer at the YMCA flag football games.
