New, quality members increase the ability of our club to provide greater service and they unquestionably constitute the future leadership of the club. As you know Gay Enyeart is the membership chair and it is her responsibility to encourage everyone in the club to seek out potential new Lion club members, but it is not just her responsibility to bring in new club members, it is all of ours. To that means I want to emphasize that every one of our club members can/needs to be a sponsor of a new member into our club. Gay is putting together a club membership growth program to help develop a growth in membership into our club. I am requesting that every club member support it; because membership growth is everybody s business. The fact that most of our club members are retired does not mean that they do not have contacts that would make good club members. Where can you meet prospective club members? Most all of you attend church, all have neighbors, and most you are involved in other worthwhile community activities where prospects exist. We have club brochures designed specifically for the Fort Vancouver Lions Club along with Lions Clubs Inter- national membership applications. We have also developed a short oneon-one elevator speech for you to use when asked what do the Lions do. It is recognized that some of you are not comfortable asking others to consider becoming a Lions club member, even if you wholeheartedly believe in the benefits of membership and want to share the experience with others. If you can Gay, or members of the membership committee, a name and contact information all club members can participate in generating leads, but the actual recruiting can be done by individuals who truly enjoy asking others to become Lions. Please step up and help us grow the Fort Vancouver Lions Club. King Lion David

Always a fun event, it is full of activity and good energy. We braved the hot day to cheer on the riders and walkers, hand out medals, and help with food service. Our efforts were greatly appreciated by the event sponsors and participants. It was fun and the day went by quickly. Participating Lions were: Lee Denny, Eva Halter, Craig Limoges, DeAnn Miller, DeAnn's son Kris Miller, Bill Shalaby, and Joanne Zimmer. Social Media: Fort Vancouver Lions Our Facebook Members Group Fort Vancouver Lion Members Our Facebook Public Page Fort Vancouver Lions District 19G LCI MD-19 LCI Lions Club Elevator Speech(es) Lions are a network of over 1.4 million men and women in over 45,000 clubs worldwide, making us the world s largest service club organization. Whenever a Lions club gets together, problems get smaller and communities get better because we help where help is needed. In over 206 countries Lions volunteer in hospitals, senior centers, regions battered by natural disasters, in schools and in eyeglass recycling center. Lions are at work helping, leading, planning and supporting. Because Lions are local, we can serve the unique needs of the communities where we live. Because we re global, we can address challenges that go beyond borders. When it comes to meeting challenges, our response in simple: We Serve. It s something that unites Lions around the world, and it s unconditional. Lions aren t limited by continents or restricted to certain causes. We help wherever, whenever and however we can. OR A quick answer to the question, Who are Lions? ELEVATOR SPEECH - Lions are men and women who make a difference every day, everywhere. With 1.35 million members in over 206 countries, Lions aid the blind and visually impaired, assist youth, answer the call when disaster strikes, and make a strong commitment to filling other community needs throughout the world. Or... Lions dedicate themselves to making the world a better place. Lions Clubs International is the largest service organization in the world. There are over 1.4 million Lions club members who hold health screenings, support environmental projects, fund scholarships, mentor youth and provide humanitarian aid in times of disaster. Most importantly, Lions are the world leader in blindness prevention. Our Motto is We Serve.

3 P A G E 3 Fort Vancouver Lions Support Childhood Cancer Association at Twilight Half Marathon On Saturday July 7 the Fort Vancouver Lions worked at the Twilight Half Marathon being run at Vancouver Lake Regional Park. It was the fourth year the half marathon had been run to benefit the Childhood Cancer Association (CCA). The CCA works to provide joyful, transformative moments in the lives of children with cancer in Portland and Southwest Washington. Their motto is We prescribe Joy. Lions Craig Limoges and Dede Miller helped with registration and other Lions passed out water and electrolyte drink to runners passing two aid stations. Despite temperatures in the mid-80 s runners and volunteers had an enjoyable event for a worthy cause. Lions working the aid stations were Eva Halter, Lance Ebard, Joanne Zimmer, Katie Zimmer, Bill Shalaby, Jen Leger and Len Leger. Grandma and granddaughter win the flowers at a Friday meeting! Please newsletter articles for the September newsletter to: Shelly Brown at Lsbrown65@comcast.net by Saturday, August 25! Thanks!!!
