1 Lion s Mane to the Tails Keeping District 14-L Lions Clubs Informed Number 46 August, 2018 Website: Facebook District Governors Message It is nice to be back from Las Vegas. Before the convention I put in long days of training to become a Governor. On Saturday Leo and I walked in the International Parade. There were ten thousand people walking in the parade. It was very hot and a lot of water was needed. I was very proud to walk behind the Pennsylvania All State Band. The band placed third in the competition. On Saturday evening we went to the International Show, Featuring Cirque Dreams. This show was very exciting and enjoyable. The opening Plenary Session consist on Dr. Sanjay Gupta. He was an award-winning chief medical correspondent for CNN and practicing neurosurgeon. He stressed to become fit and live more active lives. The second Plenary Session was with our former U.S. President George W. Bush. Also at this session Wynonna Judd sang. Another enjoyable session. The closing Plenary Session was with Wayne Newton, Mr. Las Vegas. At all of the session the music was fabulous! The greatest was to hear our International President, Gudrun Yngvadottir. Gudrun is a true down to earth leader from Iceland. And we as Lions need to Reach Beyond the Horizon, We Serve! As Lions, how are we going to serve? Are we just going to go to our meetings and eat or are we going to show our community what Lionism is all about. We need more members to have more hands in serving others. I know with a lot of our clubs, our members are getting older and do not have the strength and get up and go that they used to have. So what are we going to do about getting members. Clubs, we have people who can strengthen our club and give you ideas to help. We do not want to loose any clubs this year. I challenge all of the clubs to get one new member this year or have a plus 1 in your membership. If you loose a member you will need to get another member to replace that member who was dropped or passed. I know you can do it, just ask. Please, the clubs who have under 20 members in their clubs, let the global membership leader help you to gain more members. We can fine creative solutions. We achieve more when we listen to new technologies and invite caring men and women, young and old to join us in service.
2 I am looking forward to visiting all of the clubs. These are the club visits in August. Warfordsburg August 8th Hyndman-Londonderry August 16t Forbes Road August 21st Just a reminder that our first Cabinet meeting will be held on September 9th at the Roaring Spring Lions Club at 2 o'clock. If you didn't get your Directory at the Banner Exchange you can get the Directory at the Cabinet Meeting or if you want it sooner, let me know. I hope you are having a wonderful summer and staying cool. If there are any questions about anything, please let me know. If I don't have an answer, we will get one for you. There is no better exercise for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up. WE SERVE! Yours in Lionism, DG Leanna
3 Fellow Lions, I want to thank the Lion Clubs in 14 L, for their support in helping me to become the First District Governor in the coming year. I attended the Bedford Lioness Club with the District Governor Jim Foreso and Trisha Radmann. I attended the Stone Creek Valley Lions Club Picnic. Along with attending the Sight Conservation Picnic on July 18th at the Hollidaysburg Lions Club. I enjoyed the great meal that the Past Council Chair Larry Edwards cooked for the Sight Conservation Picnic. I want to thank Past District Governor Jim Foreso and his wife Julie for their tremendous support this last year. Unfortunately I was unable to attend the Banner Exchange on July 22nd, due to a prior commitment with my grandchildren. I would like to wish LeAnna and Leo Calhoun to have a very successful upcoming year as District Governor. I will be working with District Governor LeAnna and supporting her in her interest in Lionism. To end my newsletter I will be attending the First Council meeting in Harrisburg on August 3rd and 4th. I hope my fellow Lions are having a safe and enjoyable summer. Sincerely,
4
