ROTARY CLUB OF EDWARDSTOWN ANNUAL REPORT Club president Neville Brandon

PRESIDENTS REPORT Well my Presidential Year has nearly come to an end The position of President was accepted a little earlier than I had Anticipated but I made it with a lot of help To be invited to be President I consider a privilege and being able to represent our Rotary Club an exciting time I was fortunate to follow on from PP John Angas and as expected he had all the details in the correct order for me to move forward. I would like to thank John for his help to get me up to speed to take over from him as President. The Book shop under John supervision was transferred from Sturt Road to Towers terrace and basically ready to roll, subject to final approval from the Marion Council. This approval was finally granted and the book shop moved forward Ready for the club to expand this community centre. The association with the Marion Council has continued to the point that they have organised on open day (this Saturday) at the Bookshop inviting the local residents who will be asked to submit any ideas they might have for the site. Hopefully this may encourage us to move along to the next stage. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the book shop board for a positive year, a job well done. Membership Due to many members and an active membership committee we were able to induct 7 new members early in the year. Joseph Maseka, Greg & Libby Carey Leanne & Aubrey Wagener, Kirk Jones & John Chapman All our new members have become passionately involved in the separate committees of club which has been pleasing result. Friends of Rotary member ship has now grown to 24 members It is a real advantage to have these volunteers to support our club On the other side of the membership Ledger We lost 2 members After 23 years of membership an old friend MARK HAYNES passed away Early this year after 22 years of membership Sylvester Coster handed in his resignation The Board that helped me through my year PE Merilyn with her previous experience as president and her personal drive to move our club forward, we can now all be pleased with her taking over the reigns.

Secretary Claire she is so organised that many time after a meeting i would arrive home and to find the details already ed thro. Treasurer Rodrigo getting the job done with John Angas assisting with little problems that arise This year I changed the format of the committees It may not have been the best arrangement but I hope It has created some positive discussion Ray Trenodan & Lulu Peng Community Vocation youth service Environment Rob Fick & assistant Public Relations International Fellowship Membership Both of these groups of committees have performed exceptionally well. Numbers game With Keith Walter having health problems I for one have missed his presence and this enjoyable part of club fellowship Catering Trailer This venture is certainly an important part of our fund raising for our club, but I feel it is also a meeting place for great fellowship Finally our club is now in a positive position to move forward on to bigger & better projects for the community. I wish President Merilyn, her Committees and the Edwardstown Rotary Club members all the best for Neville T. Brandon President

Annual Secretary s Report I have now been Secretary for 25 months and whilst I have enjoyed working with Neville this year, I am looking forward to handing over the role and becoming President Elect. We currently have 33 members and recently awarded Life Memberships to Keith Walters and Bob Simes. As in previous years we seem to gain a few members but then lose the same number. Sadly this year we lost Mark Haynes. Weekly s are still being sent to all members with the various bulletins and information provided to me. I now also have a separate data base for Friends of Rotary that I use to invite them to certain events, the majority of our FOR do have accounts which makes it easy to reach out to them. I endeavor to get Board Meeting minutes typed and out to all members within a week of the meeting and I apologise in advance if s have not been timely, I am still without an active connection at home, it will be a year next month. I have maintained both the Rotary International and the Rotary Down Under Data Base s to ensure membership numbers remain current at all times and also keep an excel spreadsheet of all members and a separate one of all our Friends of Rotary. It has been a pleasure to work with Neville and the Board this year Clair Gasson Secretary

ANNUAL REPORT PUBLIC RELATIONS INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE MEMBERS ROB FICK (BOARD MEMBER) JOHN PRICE JOHN ANGUS SYLVESTER COSTAR KEVIN DONALDSON ROSS McDONALD JEFFREY HOLLANDS JOHN HENSHALL KEITH WALTER AUBREY WAGNER JOHN CHAPMAN A different Committee structure awaited us as we set off for this Rotary year. The difference being that we had 4 committee s coming together under the direction of 1 Board Member. We set off for a year with a difference, 10 committee members to share the workload across all categories. INTERNATIONAL The International night was celebrated in February. We had an International celebration with a difference, instead of going out of our regular meeting place we decided to offer this night to the Marion Hotel. The Hotel was briefed on the format of our previous International Celebrations, these being held at a restaurant of the chosen International theme, asking the hotel to provide us with some options on the menu. Our committee chose Italian for the meal and our Guest Speaker for the night was Hendrik, our Exchange Student from Germany. The hotel provided a very good meal, also decorating the tables in Italian theme. Hendrik provided an interesting segment for us, based on his home town and family, and Germany. International also provided us with the opportunity to support projects through Rotary. Donations to RAWCS, DIK, were passed by Board during the year. FELLOWSHIP Fellowship in our Rotary Club is always a highlight and this year was no exception. The usual shows at Arts Theatre, always a great night with quality entertainment and fellowship. The annual Christmas Dinner, this year held at the Marion Hotel, High Tea celebration at various Rotarians homes, simple Fellowship nights held at the Marion. Thanks to the committee members that took on the task of co-ordinating these functions. MEMBERSHIP A very important part of our committee structure for this year. We decided that we should designate a committed leader for this important part of our Rotary year. Ross McDonald was chosen to lead us

in this important category. With the new direction in this category of our committee, (Friends of Rotary ) being included it meant that there would be a lot more work to be done in this area, thankfully all committee members contributed to make this successful for our Rotary Club, and Ross s leadership has seen a successful year in membership. Finally, thankyou to all committee members for your enthusiasm and your willingness to give it a go during this Rotary year, this made it enjoyable and rewarding. Also thanks to my fellow Rotary Board members for your support. Rob Fick Director 2013/14.
