This year, AIRS is ffering three cnference training pprtunities t explre imprtant tpics in greater detail. These ppular all-day sessins, knwn as The Intensives, will be held Sunday, June 3 rd. The sessins run cncurrently frm 9:00am t 4:15pm. The fee fr each Intensive is $150. T keep the Intensive fees affrdable, we will nt be prviding refreshments. In 1996, Mary went n t be named the first directr f the Natinal Center fr Children s Illustrated Literature. Jennie Pllak has wrked in the field f Infrmatin and Referral fr eleven years, wrking in many rles within 211; I&R Specialist, Resurce Specialist and Center Manager. She is the Statewide Resurce Database Directr f Michigan 211, facilitating and engaging cllective wrk in the Resurce Database. Jennie hlds a Master s degree in Scial Wrk, with a fcus in Organizatin and Cmmunity Leadership. In additin t participating n many lcal and reginal netwrks, Jennie serves in several capacities n the MI-AIRS Bard, and is the Vice-Chair f the AIRS Accreditatin Cmmissin. Prviding Excellent Frntline I&R Service (previusly The ABCs f I&R) Instructrs: Faed Hendry, Findhelp Infrmatin Services, Trnt, Ontari; Shye Luis, Natinal Suicide Preventin Lifeline, Rchester, New Yrk This intensive is fr frnt-line I&R Specialists wh are relatively new t the field r fr mre experienced staff wh will be taking the CIRS r CIRS-A/D exam. This interactive and participatry sessin will address the practical applicatin f perfrmance-based cmpetencies, the hw-t f cnducting an effective needs assessment and dealing with a range f client inquiries and types. The sessin cvers all the fundamentals and enhancements invlved in prvide a quality I&R service. Shye Luis has wrked fr crisis interventin and infrmatin & referral htlines since Shye has a Master s Degree in Cunseling and Human Develpment frm St. Lawrence University. She is als certified thrugh Living Wrks as an ASIST Master Trainer (Applied Suicide Interventin Skills Training) and thrugh AIRS). Faed Hendry is the Manager f Training and Outreach with Findhelp Infrmatin Services in Trnt, Ontari. He has delivered hundreds f training wrkshps related t I&R. Faed is a Past-President f AIRS and has served as the Chair f the AIRS Standards Cmmittee and is als an AIRS Accreditatin Site Reviewer. He has wrked in the field since The I&R Supervisr s Tlkit Instructr: Sandra Ray, United Way f Greater Hustn, Texas Are yu an I&R supervisr? Or are yu ready t prepare fr that eventual prmtin? 4 AIRS Certificatin Schedule at a Glance AIRS ffers the nly internatinally recgnized credentialing prgram in the field f Infrmatin and Referral. AIRS Certificatin exams fr I&R Specialists (CIRS), Resurce Specialists (CRS) and I&R Specialists in Aging/Disabilities (CIRS- A/D) will be held n Sunday, June 3 rd at 1:30pm and Tuesday, June 5 th at 2:30pm. Applicatins can be dwnladed frm the AIRS website at Exam fees vary accrding t yur membership level. All applicatins and payments must be received tgether at the AIRS Natinal Office by May 4 th, and be apprved befre applicants will be eligible t take the exam. The CEU is an internatinally recgnized unit, designed t prvide a recrd f an individual s cntinuing educatin accmplishments. One CEU is defined as ten cntact hurs f participatin in an rganized cntinuing educatin experience under reasnable spnsrship, capable directin and qualified instructin.
