2 Conference Overview This conference is designed to address practical issues and clinical challenges that oncology nurses face each day. Hoag s 12th Annual Oncology Nurses Conference Embracing Excellence in Oncology Nursing Practice is designed for nurses dedicated to the field of oncology who practice in settings across the continuum of care. During this two day conference, attendees will benefit from an intimate learning environment in which prominent faculty will present the latest in oncology care and provide practical strategies and tools to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes. CEU Accreditation & Credit Designation This conference has been approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, with provider number 00146, for a total of seventeen (17.0) contact hours (9.0 for Friday, 8.0 for Saturday), of continuing education credit for R.N.s. Who Should Attend This conference is intended for oncology and radiation oncology nurses. Pharmacists as well as others with an interest in recent advances in the treatment of solid tumors and hematologic malignancies are welcome to attend. Students enrolled in a registered nursing program who have interest in oncology are invited to attend this program. Acknowledgment This event is generously supported by Circle 1000, a Hoag Hospital Foundation support group benefitting Hoag Family Cancer Institute. This program is now approved for ILNA Points. The program content has been reviewed by the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) and is acceptable for recertification points. ONCC review is only for designating content to be used for recertification points and is not for CNE accreditation. CNE programs must be formally approved for contact hours by an acceptable accreditor/approver of nursing CE to be used for recertification by ONCC. If the CNE provider fails to obtain formal approval to award contact hours by an acceptable accrediting/ approval body, no information related to ONCC recertification may be used in relation to the program.
3 Educational Objective Manage stress more effectively using a different perspective and humor Decipher between evidenced based nutrition information vs. popular belief Identify and describe the role of genomics and genetics in oncology Describe new methodology of initial clinical trials of promising new anti-cancer agents Distinguish the difference between palliative care, hospice care and comfort care and know when to initiate each program Identify classifications of leukemia in the context of various patient populations, recognize and prioritize interventions necessary prior to initiation of treatment, and explain steps in treatment and corresponding goals List current nanomedical drugs in oncology Identify the management of melanoma patients from the dermatological, surgical and medical oncology perspective Identify the medical benefits to humor, how it leads to open communication and list the various types including how to appropriately use each for patients in oncology nursing practice. Describe the diagnosis, staging, and management of patients with pancreatic cancer Identify the types and indications of new cancer treatment drugs approved by the FDA in 2016 State the symptoms, diagnostic criteria and management of the following oncologic emergencies: Superior Vena Cava Syndrome, Cardiac Tamponade, Spinal Cord Compression, Tumor Lysis Syndrome, and Hypercalcemia Discuss management strategies to prevent CLABSI and C. difficile in the oncology patient Discuss grading, nursing assessment, and nursing interventions of selected adverse events with targeted therapies (monoclonal antibodies and small molecule inhibitors) Utilize ONE model for assessing sexuality concerns in individuals with cancer
