I hope all of you had a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. The holiday season may be over but the spirit of giving never ends. Thank you staff members and everyone who helped out with the Winter Camp Awareness training. It ran smoother than last year and I wanted to congratulate all of you for making another WCA happen. Next, I want to remind you guys of our upcoming events. The Klondike Derby will be located at Cisco Grove RV Park in Emigrant Gap and will have all sorts of fun games and tournaments. Make sure that you sign up early to get a slot for staffing Klondike because there are limited spaces and they get picked fast. Let s not forget our annual Achiefest. Last year was super fun and this year will be even better. I hope to see you all there and participate in some Indian handball or test your skills on Monte Carlos night. WWW, Ryan Berry, Lodge Chief Lodge Adviser Report Hello Achie, What an exciting last few months and events for Achewon Nimat! First, our banquet to celebrate the year and to recognize our servant leaders. Thanks to the banquet committee as well as helpers who make this event happen each year. Second, Winter Camp Awareness. One of the longest running and well-attended events serving our troops, led by our young leaders with the support of our advisers. Similar, we have Klondike Derby in the horizon. These are events that scout units depend on and enjoy! We can't be more proud of the members of Achie for your service. Kudos to Vice Chief of Service, Mark Stephenson, Klondike Chair, Andrew Davita, and their adviser, Rob Santos for leading this the last couple of years! (con t. to page 2) Hope all Arrowmen had a wonderful Christmas and New Year s.
(con t. from page 1) I want to encourage those of you who have not been able to make a village meeting or lodge event to attend at least ONE meeting or event before summer! With a small increase in participation I think we can take service and fellowship to the next level. For those who don't know where to start, contact Chief chief@achewonnimat.org. We look forward to hearing from you! Achie for life! WWW, Rob Wong, Co-Lodge Adviser Village Chief Reports: Seunen Village: Picture from village meeting on top. See Toys for Tots Drive below. Royaneh Village: no report given. Ohlone Village: no report given. Wekemnayon Village: At the November 2017 meeting of Wekemnayon Village, youths Aaron B., Nathaniel C., Logan T. and adults Richard C., Shirley C., Steve B., Lester T., Charles H. (not pictured), and Laura P. (not pictured) all helped in making paracord bracelets. The village was participating in Operation Gratitude, which makes care packages for US soldiers overseas or their families. The paracord bracelet can be unraveled for anything the receiver needs it to do; from making a splint to repairing gear. Close to 30 bracelets were made to be sent over! Their hard work is sure to be appreciated by the people who will receive it. (Pictures below) ~ Nathaniel Calvert, Village Chief Toys for Tots Drive & Warm Clothes Drive: During the holiday season, Suenen represented the spirit of giving through Toys for Tots and a sock drive. We collectively pulled in over 75 Toys. Suenen village encourages others to get involved in community activities as a group. 3 Lodge Vice Chief of Service Report: Achie! Be sure to check out the trading post! We have the trading post open at almost every Lodge event! With our collection of patches, shirts, flaps and other items you will not want to miss it! We are also very pleased to announce that we have brand new jackets ready to be ordered! Order forms can be readily available at any Lodge event when the trading post is present and I am also pleased to say that the time it takes to order the jackets is substantially lowered! -Chris Santos (Treasurer) Congratulations to Mr. Walton & Mark Stephenson for obtaining the Founder's award! Lodge Secretary Report: Hello Achie! What unique things is your village doing this meeting? If you are interested in sharing your activities or pictures to the Lodge for the next Arrow Point, feel free to me at Secretary@AchewonNimat.org. WWW, Peniel Ng Vigil Selection Committee: Congratulations to Will Carlson for earning Arrowman of the Year! The Vigil Selection Committee is pleased to announce that the entirety of the process has been completed early this year! All nominations were carefully looked over and very appreciated as we depend on your nominations for the Vigil Process! A big thanks to those who served on the committee! -Chris Santos
Ceremonies Team: The ceremonies of the Order of the Arrow provide a personal and rich experience to new Arrowmen and Brotherhood candidates. The focus is to ensure that the purpose of the Ordeal remains with our Brothers and help shape their lives of cheerful service. The ceremonies that accompany the induction process reinforce the purpose and mission of the Order of the Arrow and that of the Boy Scouts of America. All Achewon Nimat members are invited to join the team and take part in the fun and fellowship. We meet on the second Saturday of most months, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Epiphany Lutheran Church, Carolyn St, San Leandro, CA (164th St. and Caroline right off Foothill). -Charles Hoffman Dance and Drum Team: The Achie Singers have supported the Lodge at the University of Scouting and at the Winter Camp Awareness Training. Our three dancers are looking forward to several opportunities to perform for packs and other Scouting events this Spring, including the Silicon Valley-Monterey Bay Council's Indian Lore weekend and the W3S Conclave down at Camp Chawanakee. If you are interested in Drumming, Singing, Dancing, or just having a good time, feel free to come to one of our meetings. We have regalia and supplies, and you can learn in a relaxed and fun event. All Arrowmen are welcome. Come and join us! The Lodge dance team meets on the second Saturday of most months from 9:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. at Epiphany Lutheran Church, Carolyn St, San Leandro, CA (164th St. and Caroline right off Foothill). -Laura Priest
Banquet Recap: 71 people attended Achewon Nimat s 52nd Annual Banquet. Delicious appetizers were provided by the cook team and the O Hana Hawaiian/Asian meal was enjoyed by all. The waiter auction was very entertaining resulting in waiters who served their patrons well. The proceeds from the waiter auction and silent auction will go to the NOAC fund helping our youth contingent to attend the 2018 NOAC. A Hawaiian piñata was shared by the youth and many were lucky to receive door prizes. Congratulations to all of the recipients of special awards and recognitions. The banquet committee would like to thank everyone who pitched in to make this a very successful and enjoyable banquet. WWW Mrs. Brandon Klondike: After not being able to put on a councilwide Klondike last year due to unforeseen circumstances, this year we have a new site, revamped program, and renewed enthusiasm. Taking place at Cisco Grove (instead of Camp Hi-Sierra), the Klondike committee can t wait to provide a competitive yet encouraging environment for Troops to get the full experience out of snow camping. With a fresh location, Troops will get to experience new sights, new sounds, and definitely more snow! However, to run the camp effectively, I am calling upon all OA members to come make the Klondike experience even better by staffing. While this is a Troop focused camp, the OA is expected to represent themselves well and run a smooth camp experience. The key to a smooth program is a quality staff, only possible if we have enough sign-ups. Even if you don t want to staff, come with your Troop to get a feel for the event, so you be on next year s staff roster! Ultimately, the entire Klondike committee and I can t wait to show some OA pride and run a winter camp that dazzles the troops of SFBAC. Winter Camp Awareness Recap: As always, Winter Camp Awareness was a huge success, helping fund our many lodge events. We had over 300 participants and staff members. I d like to thank all of the youth and adult staff members, those who provided projectors and laptops, and the great cook team that made the event possible. Finally, I d like to thank the people at the U.S.S. Hornet museum that have provided a great space to put on the event year after year. - Mark Stephenson, VC of Service - Andrew Divita, Klondike Chair
NOAC 2018: NOAC 2018 July 30 August 4, 2018 Indiana University - Bloomington, IN NOAC? What is that? NOAC stands for National Order of the Arrow Conference and has been held every two or three years since NOAC 2018 will be the 33rd conference held and is the largest event put on for members of the OA (think of a small Jamboree, but without camping in tents). In the summer of 2018, NOAC will be held at the Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana from July 30 until August 4. Indiana University Bloomington is the flagship campus of the Indiana University system and was rated as one of the most beautiful campuses in the United States in The town of Bloomington (population 88,322) is about four hours south of Chicago, IL. events. At NOAC, numerous activities and special shows take place, so you won t want to miss out on this once in a life-time opportunity! NOAC Informational Meeting: If you are interested in attending NOAC, we will be having an informational meeting on Wednesday, February 21 at 7:30 PM at the YLTC to discuss the event, approximate costs, talk about travel and other basic logistics. For more information and to get added to the NOAC for updates, contact: NOAC2018@achewonnimat.org NOAC 2018 Website: -information - Steve Kline As the campus has limited space, Achewon Nimat Lodge has been designated a membership quota of 14 arrowmen (11 youth & 3 adults) that will be allowed to attend the event. Typically our contingent will do some form of touring before the event. At NOAC 2015, we spent 2 days in Chicago, toured a WWII U- boat, dined on pizza at the Gino s (the birthplace of the deep-dish pizza) and many other exciting
