2 WHAT IS MEMSA? WHAT IS MEMSA? MEMSA was incorporated in 1976 in affiliation with the National Association of EMTs. MEMSA promotes the professional status of all EMS people; encourages standardization of training and testing; and offers continuing education programs for its members. MEMSA is a strong and vital professional association to represent people in EMS, whether they are functioning on an ambulance, in a hospital, in industry, as a law enforcement officer, with a fire department or on a rescue squad. WHY SHOULD I JOIN? You should join to take advantage of the many benefits offered by MEMSA. Here are a few: MEMBERSHIP MEMSA is composed of 12 Regions. 11 are geographically located as indicated by the map and 1 Region is comprised of the Paramedic Division. Membership in MEMSA is open to anyone who wishes to promote the professional status of EMS. As a MEMSA member, you automatically become a member of one of the 12 Regions in the state. Individual Membership Dues are $20 per year Unit Membership Dues are $200 per year. PUBLICATIONS: As a MEMSA member, you will receive the MEMSA Newsletter. It is filled with information designed to keep you abreast of the latest developments in EMS. 6 9 EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCE: MEMSA hosts an annual conference in the fall of the year which offers administrative, clinical, and instructor workshops, all approved for National Registry continuing education credit. As a member of MEMSA you receive a discount on the registration fee. AWARDS: Each year MEMSA presents an EMT of the Year Award and EMS Service of the Year Award to a person and EMS service for significant contributions to the EMS profession. The First Responder of the Year Award is presented to a First Responder Squad member MINNESOTA EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES ASSOCIATION Other awards given by MEMSA include: Meritorious Service Award and the Golden Stork Award. SCHOLARSHIP: Each year MEMSA presents the Ed Peterson scholarship to a first time EMT or First Responder who is taking or going to take the class. 3 GENERAL INFORMATION The MEMSA Conference is a comprehensive program for those involved in pre-hospital emergency care. Sessions are designed for the EMT, First Responder, and Paramedic. SITE Friday, October 10, Saturday, October 11, & Sunday, October 12, Best Western, 1111 Range Street, North Mankato, MN. From: Hwy 169 take the Webster Ave exit From: Hwy 14 take Hwy 169 S. and turn right onto the Webster Ave exit. ACCREDITATION Programs have been designed to meet the continuing education requirements for 3 contact hours for Friday, 7 contact hours for Saturday, and 5 contact hours for Sunday (15 total three-day conference) for EMTʼs, First Responders, and Paramedics. ACCOMMADATIONS Best Western is offering Conference participants a discounted room rate of $85 (SGL or DBL), plus tax and free parking. Hotel amenities include restaurant, lounge, indoor pool, whirlpool, and exercise center. Guest room amenities include cable with HBO, free local calls, high speed internet, coffee maker, and hair dryer. REGISTRATION Advance registration is highly recommended. Registration is limited to the first 400 registrants. Attached is a registration form that includes fees and deadlines. Registration fees for all events include refreshment breaks, lunch and social/ dance (cash bar) on Saturday, breakfast on Sunday, continuing education certificates, and all program materials. Registration materials will be available at the registration desk beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, October 10, Refunds: Full refunds will be made if notice of cancellation is received at least one week prior to opening date of the conference. No refunds will be made after that time. PROGRAM CHANGES The Conference Committee reserves the right to change or alter program contents/schedule. OTHER INFORMATION Silent Auction: There will be a silent auction held at the conference this year for various donated items. The auction will run Friday night and until 3 pm on Saturday. The winners will be announced Saturday at the 4 pm break. If interested in donating an item for the auction please contact a committee member listed below. Proceeds will go to support the awards and scholarship. Awards & Scholarships: There are several awards and a scholarship that are presented on Saturday during the noon lunch. These awards include the EMT of the Year, EMS Service of the Year, the First Responder of the Year, and the Ed Peterson Scholarship. If interested in nominating a person or service for one of the awards or to apply for the scholarship the deadline is September 15, Please contact a committee member listed below for more information or an awards and scholarship application packet. State Board Elections: Elections for MEMSA state board members will be held at the conference this year (only MEMSA members are allowed to vote). Ballots will be at the registration table or an absentee ballot can be requested by contacting a committee member listed below.
