1 B.P.O.E. Lodge 2731 Newsletter Zephyrhills, FL March 2019 EXALTED RULERS MESSAGE Our Elk year is coming to an end. I m so pleased and very proud to welcome many new members this year. I look forward to getting to know each of them and hope they will actively support our lodge. This year has had its ups and downs. The main issue is communication, as well as too much concern about what others are doing or not doing. As we are a Lodge made up totally of volunteers, it is an ongoing challenge to have things work smoothly. Each member, in their own way, has vowed to support the Lodge so it can fulfill it's mission of aiding our Veterans and the children and families of our community who need our help. Therefore, it is the responsibility of each member to do their very best, to communicate often and clearly with those who need to be informed so there is no confusion. If each of us take our part of volunteering seriously, there won't be time to worry about others and what they are doing. If there are questions, answers can easily be found from the Lodge officers, the House Committee or possibly other Volunteer Chairmen. We are a great Elk family and we have a very active lodge that we can be proud of. Soon we will begin another Elk year and with us all working together it will be a grand new year. A lot of members have stepped up to volunteer, but we need more even if it is only one day a week or a month. The kitchen is really in need of help. There are a few that have been cooking since they have become members, but we need additional help so that the few can have a break now and then. I know a member who has been cooking on Thursdays and Fridays since I joined the lodge 12 years ago. He and another member have been cutting the lawn for the lodge for God knows how long, and they are not as young as they used to be. There are so many things that our lodge needs in the way of volunteering, please step up next year and help make our lodge strong. I have enjoyed my year as Exalted Ruler. But now with my new found time, I will be volunteering at James A. Haley Hospital in support of the amputees as a peer volunteer. Thank you so much for all your support. Ken Fabiani Exalted Ruler March 2019 Page 1 The lodge received a $7,500 check for the ENF Impact Grant for the summer Feed the Kids Program. The program is in need of many volunteers. Please add your name to the sign up sheets that are posted and indicate what you would like to assist with: Prep or cooking in the kitchen, making sandwiches, setting up the dining room, the pantry program, cleaning up at end of day, library books for the children, or reading to the children. ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED! I can proudly report that our Lodge #2731 is #1 in the central district with a per capita of $8.56. In lodges with members, our lodge is also #1. I can also report that the Quarter Tube donors have increased with our many new members. Thanks as always for your donations to ENF, and for supporting our lodge. Donations can be left at the lodge for mailing, checks payable to ENF. 2 Buck and Doe Zephyrhills Lodge #2731 Veterans Corner I know at one time I was asking for any articles that could be donated to a veteran for household needs. The other day I received a letter from a veteran who is leaving the Domiciliary in Tampa to be out on his own. He has been provided with a place of his own but that is all he has to his name at this time. Again I am asking for any household articles that you are looking to let go of. Everything from bedding to dishes and any type of furniture. I am asking you to open up your hearts and help this veteran in need. Thank you! This time they will go to the wounded warriors. Shirley Crawford is gracious enough to take them to them when we have gathered a bag or two. This will continue until they no longer need them. Thanks to all the Elks that supported them then and will support them now. We are in great need of help around the lodge. Remember, we are an all volunteer lodge and depend on your help to keep our lodge active and fun. In order to do that we need our members to give a little of their time each month so that the many activities we offer can continue to be available Currently, we need help in the kitchen. If you would like to help with the prepping of the meals, cooking or assisting with cleanup, it would be appreciated. With many volunteers, no one would have to volunteer too often. Give a call to Shirley LeClair at If you haven t been called and would like to help in the dining room, please call Harriett Hinton at Both of these chairmen will welcome your call. We are also in desperate need of someone to help with the POS. (Point of Sale) Tuesday s, Wednesday s and Friday afternoons starting at 4:00PM. If you are a computer user at all, it is not difficult. Someone will work with you until you are comfortable with the process. Give Bobbie a call at if you can help. Please consider giving a few hours a month in support of our lodge. March 2019 Page 2

3 Buck and Doe Zephyrhills Lodge #2731 March Entertainment During my year as Exalted Ruler, this member has been a great plus to the lodge. He is in the lodge to help when meals are being served, whether it is a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Friday. Even during some of the special functions. You never know what he will be doing on a Friday night. Some days he is scraping plates, or helping with the veterans when they are here for dinner, even working the dining room picking up dishes when our guests are finished having dinner. Some Fridays you can even find him moving the table and chairs to clear the dance floor. He is one of the few members that you can also find on a meeting night at the lodge showing his support. It is my honor to name Bob Hinton our Elk of the Month for March. She has been a member for many years and is always stepping up when someone needs help, no matter what is asked of her. On each Thursday morning, she is in early busily preparing for Bingo night. Whenever there is any type of function going on during the week she is there. If not working for the function she is there to have a good time. On Friday nights you might see her in the game room. Some nights you might see her walk out with a big smile and other times not so good. FRI ENTERTAINMENT IS FROM 6:00PM TO 9:00PM.
