The Symposium is designed to provide educational training to federal, state, local, and international investigators, supervisors, police chiefs, sheriffs, crime analysts, forensic scientists, prosecutors, coroners, medical examiners, and other professionals involved in violent crime and death investigations. This training includes he latest techniques and methodologies in solving crimes against persons. During the week of the conference, many after hour events are being planned. These include private tours of the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall where the Declaration of Independence was signed, and a tour of the Betsy Ross House, the location where the first U.S. Flag was made. On Wednesday, June 25 and Thursday, June 26, 2014, the IHIA will be hosting a two day cold case break out session for those that may be interested. This will afford our attendees a second trak of training choices during the week of the conference. It doesn t matter if you are the only detective who works cases in your department or you are part of a team of accomplished investigators. Cold Case Investigations can challenge the most seasoned detective. Key to success is managing all of the resources you know about and even more you may not. This break out session is limited to 100 people. You will have an opportunity to PRESS THE FLESH with experts and develop relationships with forensic disciplines whose services are free to you and focused on helping you solve your case.

5 Day One Wednesday June 25, :30 9:30 A-Z in cold Case operations: An overview of the process of cold case review. Why do a cold case? Who can investigate a cold case? The attendee will understand the simplicity and complexity of Cold Case concepts. Instructor: Lou Tosti and Bobby Wagner 9:30 9:45 Break 9:45 11:00 Family/Media/Community This presentation will consist of instruction on how to approach a cold case utilizing assistance from Families, media and the community to develop leads, solve cases and utilize resources. Instructor Todd Mathews NAMUS. 11:00 12:00 Forensic and Scientific Resources: this presentation will touch on the resources available free of charge to the cold case investigator from skull/ facial reconstruction / Anthropology, odontology entomology etc. TBA: The instructor will be provided by NAMUS. 12:00 1:00 Lunch 1:00 2:00 Prosecution of cold cases: this block of instruction will address some of the common concerns of prosecutors and tactics used by the defense bar in challenging cold cases. TBA: This Instructor should be selected from the local area. 2:00 2:15 Break 2:15 3:15 Scientific Trends: This presentation is designed to address the latest trends including Bio Metrics, fingerprints, DNA as a tool to be used as the be all of evidence and other trends. TBA: This Instructor should come from a local lab. Special note: This is not a basic DNA lecture, this is about the tools at the disposal of an investigator to solve a case. 3:15 4:30 Round Table/Panel Discussions with all of the above speakers who are available to address how they feel they can contribute to a cold case. This will be open to questions and comment from the audience. Facilitator: Mike Murphy and Lou Tosti Day Two Thursday June 26, :30 9:00 Brief introduction of the format of the next three hours of information and contacts. 9:00 12:00 A list will be created for investigators to use to contact others across the world who are working cold cases. Each Forensic and investigative discipline that is present will give a 10 min introduction and where he or she will be located in the room. Investigators will be encouraged to use the next block of time to speak one on one or in small groups with the various experts in the forensics fields. This time will be used as mini break out session with in the main break out and is to be intimate and personal. 12:00 1:00 Lunch 1:00 2:00 Round Table/Panel Discussion with The NCMEC, NAMUS, and IHIA to provide information on what these organizations can do to assist the Investigators. Also, to obtain feedback about the information that has been presented and what investigators want in the future.
