3 SPECIAL PROGRAMS OUTDOOR CENTER AT THE NEWPORT COUNTY YMCA Our Outdoor Center boosts beautiful views of Green End Pond and amazing outdoor accommodations for your next family gathering or business outing. With a low and high ropes course, outdoor pavilions, and plenty of open space; the Y is able to accommodate any event! Check out an outdoor experience like nowhere else on Aquidneck Island. RACE4CHASE CHASING SUMMER EVENT Held at Fort Adams Sunday, August 12th, 2018 DOGGIE DIP Held at the Newport County YMCA to benefit the Potter league for Animals Saturday, August 18, 2018 SPECIAL OLYMPICS & THE YMCA To every athlete involved in Special Olympics, the program provides a lifetime of active participation in sports. To volunteers and to the public, Special Olympics offers an experience that uplifts the spirit and touches the heart. Thirty years ago, Eunice Kennedy Shriver lit a flame that would enlighten the world and bring joy and fulfillment to millions. Thirty years later, that spirit continues. The Special Olympics mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for individuals with disabilities to continue opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. This summer the Y will offer Unified softball for athletes and partners over the age of 16. Practice will begin June 11th and run until the end of August. Practice will be held on Wednesdays at Middletown High School from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Games will be Mondays starting at 6:30pm. When we do not have a game, we will be practicing at Middletown High School from 6:00pm to 7:00pm. 4 CHILD DEVELOPMENT CHILD WATCH: Family Treehouse Family Treehouse Coordinator Maria Fombellida: newportymca.org X118 Child Watch services are free for Newport County YMCA members only and is not available to non-members. Reciprocity New England members may use the facility but cannot use the Treehouse services. Availability is on a first come first serve basis. No reservations. Up to 2 hours maximum. PHOTO ID REQUIRED. With the help of our well-trained staff, your child will spend their summer days developing skills and boosting their self-esteem through a variety of safe, structured activities. Registration: Members: February 5, 2018 Non-Members: March 5, 2018 CAMP AT THE NEWPORT COUNTY YMCA (MIDDLETOWN, RI) YMCA summer camp will provide your child with a memorable experience and you with peace of mind knowing that your child is in a safe and caring environment. Register early for the camping experience of the summer! YMCA CAMP SANDYWOODS FARM (TIVERTON, RI) A community partnership has been created between the Newport County YMCA and Sandywoods Farm to bring summer camp fun for kids from kindergarten through grade 8! Sandywoods Farm is a unique arts and agricultural community located just off Bulgarmarsh Road in the northeast corner of Tiverton. CAMPS AT FORT ADAMS (NEWPORT, RI) Our Summer Camp takes advantage of the beautiful Fort Adams for our Adams Experience and Aqua Camps. Working in collaboration with Fort Adams, campers have the chance to explore the beautiful National Historic Landmark through land and water. RACE 4 CHASE The Race4Chase Kid s Triathlon program is a youth triathlon program aimed to provide kids aged 6 to 12 with a safe, healthy non-competitive environment to discover the sport of triathlon. It brings together kids from all different backgrounds and educates them on how to adopt a healthy lifestyle, coaches them to develop a foundation of athletic skills, and inspires them to aim high in sports and in life. Designed as a six week goal oriented summer program, the program provides kids with expert instruction in swimming, cycling, running, strength training and flexibility, and also teaches them the fundamentals of good nutrition, under the supportive guidance of coaches, lifeguards and instructors. Implementing a customdesigned training program, the coaches provide the youth athletes with all the equipment, knowledge, and one-onone support they need to become tri-athletes. At the culmination of the training camp, all the youth athletes come together to compete in a USAT-sanctioned triathlon race. This is an application based program. All training sessions are scheduled to accommodate each individual s needs. GROUP EXERCISE The Newport County YMCA s Group Exercise program serves the novice to advanced participant. Our latest class offerings include Les Mills Body Pump and Body Attack, yoga, core classes, pilates mat-based workouts, indoor cycling, functional training and athletic conditioning, as well as our traditional step classes, and high impact interval (HIIT) classes. Our staff are nationally certified by various organizations. All group exercise classes are FREE to YMCA Members. SPECIALTY PROGRAMS BOOTCAMPS (Indoor/Outdoor) These military-inspired workouts burn serious calories. Boot Camps are stylized groupx classes led by our Personal Trainers. We offer a variety of camps targeting weight loss, HIIT, athletic training, and functional fitness. These classes are built on three fundamentals of training cardio, strength, and agility. Boot camps operate on 6-8wk sessions.
