2 Congenital heart defects (CHDs) are the most common birth defect in America, affecting approximately one in one hundred, or 40,000 newborns each year, yet research continues to be grossly underfunded. Sadly, 20% of children who make it through birth will not survive past their first birthday. Our deep love for Ollie is continuously felt through our passionate supporters, the army of loving volunteers our loyal donors all sharing in the mission to lessen the impact of CHDs. This year, through your generosity, we will break one million dollars raised to fund the most promising research to ensure these brave children their families know they are loved. We are lightening the load for a parent swamped in medical bills bringing a smile to the face of a child spending their days in hospital rooms instead of classrooms. Our mission wraps in love the brave heart warriors fighting to live another day, those warriors taken from us too soon, the parents who fight alongside them. Through advances in pediatric heart research, mortality rates from CHDs have declined by 30% in the last decade, today, more children with CHD are living into adulthood than ever before. Sincerely, Mark Jenn Hinkle The OHHF was founded in 2013 by Mark Jenn Hinkle, following the death of their 1 year old son, Ollie, who was born with a CHD. In his 13 months, he endured 3 open heart surgeries, several hospital stays, countless doctor visits. Though his time on Earth was short, he s made a huge impact, thanks, in part, to his family s efforts to keep his spirit alive their desire to make a difference in the CHD community. Our Mission The OHHF is dedicated to lessening the impact of congenital heart disease through love, awareness, the advancement of CHD diagnosis treatment. We do so by serving heart families by funding the most promising pediatric heart research.
