An introduction to the 3 4 year old swim lessons. Water games, songs and fun are emphasized in this water adaptation class. This class is without a parent. 3-4 YEARS & 5-13 YEARS At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is a critical life skill for every child and teen. In swim lessons, we use a variety of methods to help kids overcome fears, build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime. Qualified instructors meets kids at their own level, help families set achievable goals and celebrate all successes. During all swim lessons, children will find opportunities to learn stroke development, personal safety, water sports, rescue and personal growth while incorporating the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, & Responsibility. PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS Whether you are interested in getting comfortable in the water for the first time, want to improve your form or swim faster, we can develop a program to suit your needs. Private lessons are perfect for those who prefer one-on-one attention. An instructor will work with you to determine the best path to help you achieve your personal goals. SEMI PRIVATE LESSONS This class is designed to give participants the attention needed to improve or master swim skills. Our instructors will work with 2 students at a time, determining their needs and customizing the class to meet the objectives and goals. Class time is 30 minutes. For best results, similar swim ability is recommended. ADULT SWIM LESSONS 14+ years Whether your goal is to build confidence in the water, swim faster, learn the butterfly or get that flip turn just right, let us help you achieve it! Our adult swim lessons have an open format so that individual goals will set the pace. Increase your confidence, physical fitness and swimming ability while meeting a few other adults who are doing the same. SWIM LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS 3-4 YEAR OLD SWIM LEVELS WATERBUG Little or no water experience necessary. Class will focus on ability to move through the water with confidence. Front and back floats and putting their face in the water are just a few of the skills learned at this level. PIKE Class will focus on entering the pool safely, back/front float with support, submerging entire head, jumping into the pool independently with comfort, swim on front and back with support. EEL Class will focus on beginning to swim independently. Rhythmic breathing, jumping into the water independently and performing front/back glides and floats without support. RAY Class will focus on building confidence, independent front and back crawl, elementary backstroke and sidestroke, kicking and an introduction to deep water and breaststroke YEAR OLD SWIM LEVELS Independent swimming is encouraged TADPOLE Little or no water experience necessary. Class will focus on ability to move through the water with confidence. Front and back floats and putting their face in the water are just a few of the skills learned at this level. POLLIWOG Class will focus on front and back floats, flutter kicking with a kickboard, swimming on front and back and rhythmic breathing. GUPPY Class will focus on building confidence, independent front and back crawl, elementary backstroke and sidestroke with an introduction to deep water and breaststroke. MINNOW Class will focus on perfecting front crawl, back crawl, sidestroke, elementary backstroke and breaststroke. Children will gain confidence while building their endurance. 11 FISH Class will focus on becoming more proficient in stroke development. An introduction to open turns will teach continuous swimming. Children will also be introduced to the butterfly. FLYING FISH Prerequisite Must be able to swim 50 yards front crawl, back crawl and dolphin kick 25 yards. Class will focus on refining strokes so children swim with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. SHARK Prerequisite Must be able to swim 100 yards of front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke and butterfly 25 yards. This is the final level of YMCA swim lessons. Class will focus on building endurance and flip turns. Upon completion of this level, children will be able to swim 200 yard individual medley. Congratulations!

13 SWIM TEAM ages 6-18 COMPETITIVE STROKE 6-14 years Swimmers must be 6 years old and be able to swim multiple lengths (25 yards) of the front crawl (Freestyle) with rotary breathing. An introductory class to GBY Competitive Swimming, Competitive Stroke meets one time a week in seven week sessions and is taught by GBY Swim Team coaches. The four competitive strokes are taught as well as other competitive swimming fundamentals such as starts & turns. AQUATIC SPECIALTY ages 8+ MASTER SWIM 14+ years Get the ultimate in pool workouts! Whether you swim simply for the fitness benefits or you are a competitve swimmer, you can improve your stroke technique and physical fitness in this program. Participants should be able to swim 50 yards prior to beginning this program. DIVING 8+ years Learn how to do a proper approach for diving and get to dive, flip, and twist into the pool. Child must be able to swim 25 yards and be comfortable swimming in the diving well to participate. DIVING CLINIC 8+ years Enjoy diving? Looking to try something new? INTRO TO TRIATHLON TRAINING 18+ years Considering a triathlon, marathon, or bike race next year? SILVER SHARKS 6-14 years An introductory class to GBY Competitive Swimming, Silver sharks meet 2 times a week and is taught by GBY Swim Team coaches. KAYAKING 12+ years Prior experience required (have beginner boat handling skills), must be 12+ years or older; under 18 needs adult written approval and waiver signed. The class is run by Northeast Wisconsin Paddlers Inc members. The class will meet once a week for four weeks. It is designed to introduce students to the basic skills used by all kayakers. The course will cover kayak safety, equipment, clothing, strokes, braces and introduce basic rescues. Upon completion of this course the students will be on their way to becoming a prudent paddler, meaning he/she will be able to recognize hazards, assess risk, know his/her limits and have a good foundation for exercising good judgment. KAYAKING - RESCUE & ROLL 12+ years Prior experience required (have beginner boat handling skills), must be 12+ years or older; under 18 needs adult written approcal and waiver signed. Led by Northeast Wisconsin Paddlers, Inc., this class is designed to introduce students to the basic skills used to recover and/or re-enter the kayak once capsized. The course convers kayak safety, equipment, braces, selfrescues, assisted rescues, the sweep roll and the C-To-C roll. Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to perform the steps needed to not only exit their kayak in an emergency, but also how to get back into it while still on the water. 12 RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING 15½+ years Participants must be 15½ by the last date of class and must attend all class sessions to be eligible for certification The class proides the necessary training to become a lifeguard.. The course fee includes certification in Lifeguard training, First Aid, CPR, and AED. It also includes the cost of the Lifeguard Manual, CPR resuscitation mask and certification cards. At the first class, participants will be required to swim 300 yards, front crawl and breaststroke and retrieve a ten-pound brick from the bottom of the pool, swimming 15 yards with it. 14 GYMNASTICS ages 3-18 years 3-4 GYMNASTICS Learn the basics of all four gymnastics events; vault, bars, beams, and floor. Throughout the year, your child will increase in strength, flexibility, coordination, and self-confidence while they tumble, swing and have fun. 5-6 GYMNASTICS Continue to grow in your gymnastics skills and work on more refined movements on all four events. No prior gymnastics experience necessary. BEGINNER GYMNASTICS 7-11 years No prior gymnastics experience necessary. Children learn the fundamentals of gymnastics by acquiring basic skills on all four events. YOUTH GYMNASTICS 6-11 years *Prerequisite: Beginner Gymnastics skills passed. Utilize all of the equipment in the gymnastics center to enhance skill level while learning proper form and technique. This progressive class builds upon previous learned fundamentals. 15 YOUTH SPECIALTY ages years BOYS NIGHT OUT 5th grade boys The fun and success of our Girls Night Out has led us to roll out a program just for the guys! Boys Night Out is a 6-week program designed to help young men learn and grow valuable like skills such as healthy choices, leadership, positive peer relationships and how to get ready for 6th grade all through fun and engaging activities led by Y staff and college-aged volunteers. The program caps off with an adventure-filled optional overnight to Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya from December 5-6 ($20 fee). GIRLS NIGHT OUT 5th grade girls Girls Night Out is a 8-week Y program designed just for 5th grade girls. We welcome any 5th grader from the community to experience this program. Girls Night Out is led by our Y staff and adult female volunteers and is held at 3 of our YMCA centers. Each week, our girls will have a theme to explore, social time, healthy snack and an exciting physical activity. Explore topics like healthy choices, getting ready for 6th grade, life skills, and positive friendships. Each night there will be time to hang out with friends and do a physical activity like zumba, swimming, self defense, yoga and so much more! There are even a few evenings for parents too! We will celebrate the end of our program with an optional overnight trip to YMCA Camp U-Nah-Li-Ya. The kids will spend 45 minutes using the TRX Suspension Trainer and learn tips to achieving and maintaining health and wellbeing for life. S.P.A.R.K years Strength, Play, and Resistance for Kids. Kids have fun while getting in shape. The program is designed to improve children s health wellbeing and fitness through physical activity concepts. 16 YOUTH SPORTS ages years FUNDAMENTAL CLINICS Develop and improve upon the building blocks of the sport in a 2 hour clinic. Get ready to play in our YMCA Youth Sports Programs and Future Sport Program. Our clinics are fun, fast-paced, and are led by Y Sports Site Supervisors that teach fundamental skills and positions of the sport. FUNDAMENTAL SPORTS 4-10 years The YMCA s Fundamental Youth Sports Programs teach the basic skills of the sport through drills and practices with less emphasis on the game. We concentrate more on the fundamentals of the sport and towards the end of the session introduce modified games. Fundamental Sports runs 45 minutes; whereas our Recreational Sports tier runs 75 minutes. RECREATIONAL SPORTS 1st grade and up Recreational Sports work on developmental skills with more advanced curriculum in a league format. Week 1 is a team practice. Weeks 2-7 begin with a 30-minute practice followed by a 45-minute game. During the Recreational program tier we introduce more game play (unlike Fundamental Sports where we emphasis more on skills and drills with modified games). Referees are incorporated in grade level 3-4 in Basketball. At grade level 3-4, we will also introduce score as a part of the game without putting too much emphasis upon competition. All Y Youth Sports programs are coached by volunteer parents with established curriculum and guidelines, with the guidance and support of the on-site staff Youth Sports Supervisors. BASKETBALL Learn the fundamentals of positions and roles, passing, shooting & rebounding in a non-competitive environment. Modified games are incorporated as the session weeks progress. POWER IN PINK GIRLS BASKETBALL Learn the fundamental skills of basketball while getting ready to play the game in a non-competitive, all-girls atmosphere. COACH PITCH Learn the fundamental skills of the sport of baseball covering the basics of catching, throwing, positions and roles and batting. The program uses soft core balls and after 4 coach pitches the child will bat off a Tee in the modified game portion. FLAG FOOTBALL Learn the basic skills of Flag Football. Your child will learn positions and roles, receiving, throwing and running while building confidence and showing good sportsmanship and teamwork. SOCCER Learn the fundamental soccer skills of ball control, positions and team play on a smaller field with fewer players while developing important values like how to be a great team player. POWER IN PINK GIRLS T-BALL Our young ladies will learn the fundamental skills of the sport of softball covering the basics of catching, throwing, positions and roles and batting. The program uses soft core balls and bats off a tee. T-BALL Learn the basic skills of baseball as we teach the fundamentals of catching, throwing, positions and roles and batting. The program uses soft core balls and bats off a tee. 15 VOLLEYBALL Learn the values of good sportsmanship, teamwork, goal setting and skill development and confidence in a fun atmosphere. Your child will learn skills such as serving, setting and bumping in a clinic-style environment. TENNIS 4-10 years RED BALL classes are the perfect opportunity for children to learn the fundamentals of tennis. Activities focus on building Agility, Balance and Coordination skills (ABC s), while also developing the on-court skills needed. They will further develop both forehand and backhand ground strokes, appropriate grip and tennis-specific footwork patterns. Red ball players will eventually advance to the orange ball with a much-improved understanding of how to play the game and will be prepared to make the transition to the 60 orange ball court size. Red balls have 25% bounce height of a regular ball and are played on a 36 court. ORANGE BALL classes are designed to continue building athletic skills while learning or refining the skills necessary to serve, volley and score. The children will continue to develop ground strokes/volleys/serves, work on footwork and also begin learning strategy. Spend 30 minutes (TRXpress) or 45 minutes using the TRX Suspension Trainer once or twice per week to see improvement in your overall health and fitness. This class is appropriate for the beginner, average, and advanced exerciser. PILATES HIIT ages 14+ Pilates HIIT is a 40 minute class that combines HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) with Pilates Core movements creating an intense all over body workout.
