1 Enid Moose News Enid, Oklahoma, Loyal Order of the Moose #1740 November 2017 From the desk of the administrator The following is an article written by our current Supreme Governor, Willard Kitchens for the Moose Magazine. Growing Stronger Through Teamwork As you know, my motto this year is None goes his way alone -that is true in everything we do. If we will work together, we can accomplish goals never before reached. I believe that if we all put our efforts together, Loyal Order of Moose, Women of the Moose and the Moose Legion, all will have a great year. We should be working our arrears list and contacting those members who have not renewed their membership. Let them know we value them as a member and that, each day, they are providing homes for children and seniors. Community service is also vital to our organization. Will you consider having an Open House honoring Communtiy Heroes? This will give us an opportunity to show our lodge facilities to prospective members and thank them for the jobs they are performing in our communities. As i began my journey as Supreme Governor, I had the privilege of visiting the great state of Pennsylvania. Deputy Supreme Governor Matthew Reik provided me with an itinerary that included eight lodge visits and the annual picnic. What a great experience it turned out to be and I am proud to say, I saw firsthand what fraternalism is all about. There were more than 900 dedicated men and women present for this event. Pride in the Moose - that is the term I use in describing my visit. The excitement, enthusiasm, and pride in showing their lodge homes was truly heartwarming. When we visit a lodge for the first time, we never know what to expect or the reception we will receive, however, the reception shown to Kay and myself was overwhelming. This is just the beginning of what I feel will be a great Moose Year. Thank you Pennsylvania for everything you do for the LOOM. I hope you will join me in this exciting time for our Fraternityno other organization can offer their membership what the Loyal Order of Moose does. Our leadership, starting with our Director General Scott Hart and the entire Supreme Council, stands ready to assist in any way we can. May God continue to bless Mooseheart, Moosehaven and the entire Moose Fraternity. When I read this article and decided to use it in our newsletter, I started to cut out the part about his visit to Pennsylvania, but I got to thinking about it and his statement Pride in the Moose is what I really wanted to talk about. Many of our members in the Enid lodge have Pride in the Moose. This pride is shown on a regular basis in many different ways. There are some who show it by the donation of their time in the lodge and Community Service projects, some by their monetary donations to Moose Charities, the lodge and the Oklahoma Southern Kansas Moose Association, and there are those who show their Pride in the Moose just by being at the lodge and paying their dues to keep their membership active. One way that we need to show our Pride in the Moose is by talking to people, our friends, family and work associates about becoming a member of the Moose. Additionally, we need to talk to those who we know that have let their membership dues expire and remind them that their dues not only helps our lodge but it also provides a home for our kids at Mooseheart and our seniors at Moosehaven. Remember to strive to do something good for someone each day. Ben Social Quarters Dress Code No clothing with obscene, profane, or offensive language or art. 2 Moose Riders It is getting close to the most wonderful time of the year, that s right only 8 Fridays until Christmas. We have lots of activities coming up at the Moose and hope to see you there. November 4th kicks it off with the 5th Ride to Remember. We will be riding/driving to memorials to honor Oklahoma fallen Vietnam soldiers. Join us for a great time! November 5th- 11th is Member retention week check your calendar for scheduled activities. November 12th will be the monthly Moose ride. We will ride to Alva lodge for lunch. We will meet at Enid Lodge at 9:45 and head out at 10 am. November 13th- Moose riders meeting November 18th- Family breakfast, Rib Sale and Blood Drive. November 19th- Moose Thanksgiving-bring a side dish or dessert to share. December 9th the Moose riders will have their Christmas Party in the Social 7pm. Finger Foods to share- more details to come. 7 From the Governor My Brothers and Sisters of the Enid Moose Lodge; It has been almost a year since we met for our Town Hall style meeting. I have had a lot of road time in the last few months and have reflected on how things have gone and would like to share some thoughts. First I could not be more proud to be a part of this lodge. I have seen our lodge grow in so many ways, yet know that we are still at times struggling. I have seen our lodge stop the bleeding of members, I know that across the country many lodges still struggle and can only hope that for our children and seniors this trend will stop. As we ended our last year we met our goal of plus one member, while this was an important point in our lodge s history, we were still faced with a lodge role for the men of around 385 and the WOTM 270. I know many of you can remember a time when membership was twice that number. To better understand the impact of our membership numbers I generally speak in terms of lodge participation. If we add the LOOM and WOTM together we have a general membership total of 655. The lodge participation rate is a much smaller number. This number affects every aspect of the lodge. The example I tend to use is what it costs to run the lodge. Year in, year out it costs $15, per month to keep the lodge doors open. If you use the total membership numbers each of the 655 members would need to spend $22.90 for us to meet our needs per month. The problem is we must use the lodge participation which is about 25% or 163, or $92.02 per person. This is why you always here about our membership numbers, it s not just about the premier lodge award, and it s how we reduce the $92.02 per person needs. In the past year one way we helped this number go down was to have more and different activities that could be open to the public. These activities provide an opportunity for each member to give of their time to help instead of writing a check. Each member of our lodge has a life outside of the lodge, the board of officers understand this. In the end it all comes down to lodge participation. In my first message to you I talked about the power of one, I shared my heart felt belief that the lodge belonged to the membership, I still believe that the best way forward for out lodge is for each member to embrace the power of one. Sign one new member, help support with your time one lodge activity, and help with one community service project. Last month I called a special meeting of the LOOM members to cash in one of our cd s. I was asked why did I call a special meeting and not just have it be a part of the general membership meeting, it is very simple I believe that when the need of the lodge is to deplete an asset of the lodge it needs to be done by itself, not in regular business. The board of officers has a responsibility to make sure our bills are paid on time. No one wants to break cd s, but if required I will again ask the board to call for it if required. I know it sounds bleak when it is put into writing, the good news is together we can fix this! I am so grateful for all that our lodge has done, and for each of you who support Mooseheart and Moosehaven, our community, and most importantly our lodge.
