Lebanon Village # Festivals May 14th - Mother s Day May 29th - Memorial Day March winds bring April rains bring on May flowers Reminder : Please remember to give the office one week s notice of any transportation needs you may have. We ask that you check your calendar and call the office with all your appointments as soon as possible. As we celebrate the month of May we have two recognized Holidays in which we take time to appreciate, give honor, thanks and praise. Mother s Day, is a special day in which we celebrate and remember all that she has done for us. And as we observe Memorial Day, we are reminded of all the men and women who served and gave their ultimate sacrifice to this country. This Monday, we will also be having our own celebration to thank our volunteers here at Mount Lebanon Village for their dedication and commitment. They dedicate their time to helping our members with resources and means to enjoy life while staying in the comfort and safety of their own homes. Our Volunteers are amazing people and are truly devoted to helping. We are very fortunate to have them with us. May 2017 Newsletter 1

Tuesday, May 2nd, 10:30AM Panera at the Galleria - Political activist groups for Democrats This is a low-key non pressure activist group of five just started last month. If you are interested in joining this group, please call the office to schedule a ride. (Those wanting to start a Political activist group for Republicans, please call the office to coordinate time and place). Friday, May 8th, 11AM Adult Interest Center - Music with Gene Testa Gene will mix it up with a variety music and some trivia to entertain you. May 2017 Newsletter 2

3 Monday, May 8th, 10:30AM - Pole Walking -(New Season Begins) Enjoy easy exercising and socializing while pole walking at your own pace. If you haven t tried pole walking before, find out if it s for you. For more information. Please call the office for more information and if you will need a for a ride. Friday, May 12th, 11:00AM Adult Interest Center - Rare or Old Books: Characteristics, Collectibility, and Value. What makes a book rare or collectible? Mike Dabrishus Assistant University Librarian at the University of Pittsburgh will bring examples of his own collection and encourages you to bring one or two books of your own. Monday, May 29th - Memorial Day - Since it is a Federal Holiday, banks will be closed and there will be no mail service. 6 As a reminder to our members, please call the MLV office to schedule your appointments rather than calling a volunteer directly. As a nonprofit organization we are required to keep detailed record of the service we provide. Thank you for your help in this! One of our members wanted to share a poem written by Milly Flaherty who is also a member here at the Village. It was published in the Post Gazette about a year ago. The poem is a delicate reminder of what aging brings and it ends in an up note. We hope you like it. Attitude Each Morning I look in the mirror to see a rumpled old woman who peers out at me. She is wrinkled and saggy and achy and gray. She has earned every wrinkle, every gray hair. Her body is shifting, she ached everywhere: Her back and her bunions, her knuckles, her knees. She can still climb the stairs but gave up the trapeze. Her eyesight is failing. Her hearing - What s that? Her whole whole world is shrinking no neighbors, no cat.
